Anybody know how many of Owensboro's players were missing due to football last night. I know Shemwell was a starting guard last season.

Obviously if Bowling Green has any hope to beat Highlands they have to come ready to play from the kickoff, unlike tonight. Besides the 5 turnovers, the Purples dropped 2 maybe 3 balls that should have been intercepted. They will not beat the Bluebirds if they make the same costly errors. Really all of Owensboro's points came due to being given excellent field position off of Bowling Green turnovers. Bowling Greens defense played pretty good. Once they decided to play, Bowling Greens offense looked great. They probably could have added another TD late in the game, but choose to run the ball and keep the clock moving. Putting up 35 on Owensboro's defense is pretty impressive especially considering that they shot themselves in the foot the first 20 minutes of the game. This might actually be a pretty good game, however, with Highlands history, a blowout wouldn't shock me either.

Congrats to whomever is involved in putting the rankings together. Pretty solid predictions. I guess Bowling Green must be used to 7:30 kickoffs. Once they woke up it was all Purples. Bowling Green outgained Owensboro 339 (136 rush, 203 pass) to 142 ( 78 rush, 64 pass), after turning the ball over on 5 straight possessions. BG's QB runs the fake handoff better than anyone I have seen lately. Several times I had no idea he still had the ball. I think even the refs were fooled on the TD run. Rash stadium was loud so it was hard to hear, but it seemed like they blew the whistle when the RB got tackled even though the QB had the ball on the other side of the field. I sat on the BG side and heard the following exchange from a couple of their fans in the 1st quarter that I thought was funny after the 5th early turnover. It was 13-0 at that time.

Currently its 45 degrees in Owensboro, supposed to drop to 40 degrees by kickoff. Clear sky and no chance of rain. Should be a great night for a game.

I would like to see Owensboro win this one, but I just don't see it happening. Owensboro's defense is good, but Bowling Green did put up 28 against Trinity, more than any other team this year except Cincy St. X. I think the Purples will be able to score against the Red Devils. I don't. This team has very little offense. Beside a nice opening drive, the offense was basically non existant all night. They scored all 14 of their points within the first five minutes of the game. It was 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and was U-G-L-Y the rest of the night. Owensboro lost the ball 3 times on fumbles. The defense keep them in the game, with six interceptions, a fumble recovery and a recovery of a muffed punt. I just don't see them slowing down a team like Bowling Green or Highlands enought to make up for the lack of offense.

Simple. Both Hopkinsville and Christian Co. play their games at the Stadium of Champions.

I agree, and it goes back before Joe Prince. I remember going to a game during Justin Miller's senior season in which he got about 3 carries in the first half. At the time I thought Miller would play on Sundays, maybe Gordon Powers wasn't convenienced yet, but If a kid who is able to earn the title of NFL's fastest man is playing for my team he gets the ball as often as possible. That being said, I'm not sure any coach would have been able to lead them past those two Highlands teams that beat them in the 3A finals back to back.

Tyler Brown by far outplayed Scotty Hopson when Apollo and UHA meet last season. That being said I have seen several on here question Hopson's effort for a majority of last season. Hopson's teammate Tyshaun Edmonson is a heck of a player as well. If Hopson played with half the effort the Edmonson did, UHA likely beats Apollo easily, however, as it was the Eagles won rather easily.

Sounds like a nice road win for the Devils.

If they can figure out a way to get past Apollo, I like their chances. You have to appluad them for playing a tough schedule. Lots of nice matchups. I'm looking forward to going up there in in October and checking out their facilities. Going to do the Lex Cath / UK weekend.

Actually I believe that Owensboro Catholic will play F.J. Reitz High School on Robert "Bullet" Wilson Field at Steele Stadium located on the campus of Kentucky Wesleyan College. And Owensboro Senior will play Reitz Memorial at Rash Stadium on the campus of Owensboro High School.

Owesnboro Catholic could find themselves in that position. That being said I wouldn't want to see them early in the playoffs.

I think Owensboro Catholic will be a tough out come playoff time. Their winning percentage would be higher except they annually schedule stiff competition. Beside the 3 former 4A local schools they usually play South Spencer (IN) which is usually around the top 10 in 2A. This year they have added Madisonville and Evansville Reitz. In my opinion it is possible that they could go 4-6 in the regular season (It's likely they will do better) and still be a favorite to advance far in the 2A playoffs.

Guru, I think that a lot of it goes back to school size. I'm using only private schools (not independent) for my figures, but over the last 15 years private schools have only been dominant, IMO, at the 4A level. In those 15 years in class A a private school has won the title 2 times and finished runner up 2 times. In class AA private schools have 0 titles and 3 runner up finishes. In class AAA private schools have 5 titles and 0 runner up finishes. In class AAAA private schools have 11 titles and 4 runner up finishes. Quickly reviewing some information regarding Ohio high school enrollments, it appears that quite a few of the public schools in Ohio have as many and often higher enrollments than the private schools. While from what I have read on here in the past the Trinity and St. X fans would like to believe that they work harder, have better coaching, campus athmosphere, etc. I don't doubt that they run quality programs but IMO a large part of their dominance is due to numbers. I would suspect that if a public school existed on the 4A (now 6A) level that had an equal number of boys to choose from as do those two private schools, that we would find that they could be competitive. If there were say 12 public schools (like exist in Ohio) the size of Trinity and St. X in 4A, I seriously doubt that the privates would have won the last 6 4A titles. Not to say that they would be any worse, but obviously an increased level of competition would prohibit any team for dominating a class.

I gave the homer vote to Mark Higgs. Maybe not the best on the list, but he was darn good.
