Now we can finally talk about what we've all been secretly waiting for:

 

 

The Battle of Destiny 2007!!! :ylsuper::ylsuper:

The Purples had a dreadful first qtr, losing two fumbles and three interceptions, and giving up a 13-0 lead to a great Owensboro football team. But BGHS roared back with 35 unanswered points to win 35-14. We were indeed very fortunate!

 

In the first qtr, Cain hit a 31 yd FG with 8:18 left in the first qtr, and the Red Devils had the 3-0 lead.

 

In the second qtr, Blake Roberts (who played inspired ball on both sides of the ball!) scored on a 4 yd pass play on the first play of the qtr. Cain kicked the PAT, and OHS led 10-0 with 11:54 left in the half. Then Cain hit another FG, this one from 29 yds out, with just over 6 minutes left in the half. OHS led 13-0, and things sure looked bleak for the Purples. Then came the onslaught. Sophomore RB Lavance Anderson scored on a 1 yd run with 2:46 left in the half, "Automatic Max" Oldham booted the PAT, and BGHS cut the lead to 13-7. Senior QB Trent Steelman scored on an 11 yd run that was almost called back on an inadvertent whistle with 39 seconds left in the half. Oldham comes through again, and the Purples take a 14-13 lead into the locker room at the half!

 

The second half was all Purples. Steelman scored on a 1 yd run (don't know the time), Oldham kicked the PAT, and BGHS led 21-13. That was the only score in the third qtr.

 

In the fourth qtr, Anderson scored on a 3 yd run set up by a great pass-and-run from Steelman to senior WR D.L. Moore. Moore caught the pass at the BGHS 35 and wasn't headed off until he got to the OHS 3! Anderson scored with 10:44 left in the game. Oldham booted the PAT again, and the Purples led 28-13. Senior TE Ryan Wallace finished things with a 25 yd pass from Steelman with 8:00 minutes left in the game. BGHS 35, OHS 13 the final!:thumb:

"Automatic Max" has now hit on 55 consecutive PAT attempts. He's just a junior, so he'll work on that record for sure should he remain perfect against Highlands next week.

 

Also, senior TE Ryan Wallace set a new standard for TD receptions by a TE at BGHS with his seventh of the season tonight!

 

It was a big test of the Purples' intestinal fortitude tonight, and they passed the test with flying colors! OHS folks and players...DO NOT hang your heads! You had a great season this year, and my personal congratulations on such! I never would have dreamed that the Purples would have hung 35 on that magnificent defense of yours. The commentators for our station said several times of players from both teams getting up woozy after collisions on the field...a typical old WKC football game!

 

The Purples move on to face Highlands next week...just like most everybody thought at the start of the season!

Just got home from the game. A few thoughts.

-Hats off to the Purples tonight. When they got good field position they made OHS pay. The Purples offense is for real. They have great speed and Steelman with time can make you pay.

-Game ball for DL Moore. The kid is 6'5 and will make a solid reciever for some D1 school

-Thanks OHS seniors. You brought the program back to where it should be. You will never be forgotten

-I hope that BG goes on to win state. Highlands has umpteen titles and they dont need any more.

-Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Purplehaze. Before you guys I had nothing but bad feelings tword BG, but ya'll softened me up a little. I hope there is a way you all can make it to Papa John's to see your Purples.

By the way, not too many QBs have ever started THREE championship games in a row, but Trent Steelman joins that small select group next week barring injury!

That would be great! But I wonder how much convincing we would have to do in order to pull it off...!!:lol::lol:I would like to meet the Bluebird Captains, and I'm sure our Captains would like to meet you! Ours are seected on a game-by-game basis, but it wouldn't surprise me if the senior class is representing BGHS!

Congrats to BG on a hard-fought victory against an opponent (OHS) with obviously a very solid defense!

 

I think that BG having to go and win two tough games on the road against two solid squads (JH and OHS) in back-to-back weeks will prepare them more for the title game than the 3A playoff preparation they received during the last two years.

 

It should be a great game next week with the 'Birds!

I guess Bowling Green must be used to 7:30 kickoffs. Once they woke up it was all Purples.

 

Bowling Green outgained Owensboro 339 (136 rush, 203 pass) to 142 ( 78 rush, 64 pass), after turning the ball over on 5 straight possessions.

 

BG's QB runs the fake handoff better than anyone I have seen lately. Several times I had no idea he still had the ball. I think even the refs were fooled on the TD run. Rash stadium was loud so it was hard to hear, but it seemed like they blew the whistle when the RB got tackled even though the QB had the ball on the other side of the field.

 

I sat on the BG side and heard the following exchange from a couple of their fans in the 1st quarter that I thought was funny after the 5th early turnover. It was 13-0 at that time.

 

It could be worse, one touchdown and were back in the game. If we start like this against Highlands it will be 35-0.

 

It might be 35-0 without the turnoves against them.

I always say that one should be a Goodwill Ambassador if you are going to support your program, and you do that very well! We're sorry that we couldn't come up and meet you, wcj800, and radio guy, but we will meet someday for sure! Stay in touch!
