Who wins? Why?

What info do we have about Owensboro? I know that BG is going to bring it. Their fans are already talking about playing in Papa Johns Stadium.

No offense at all to Owensboro but I want a rematch with BG in Louisville. I would still be ok with playing Owensboro to win state, but it would be a little sweeter to do it against BG.

I look for Owensboro to hang tough at home, if you haven't been to OHS to watch a game you need to try and get there. GREAT location, setting, and atmosphere. With that said BG's offense scores enough to win. BG 21-7.

Not sure what fans you are speaking of. The Purples were very worried about the John Hardin game and rightfully so. We were so lucky to come out of that game with a W. They are now focusing on Owensboro and have just as much respect for that team. None of the BG fans that I know are talking about Papa John's just yet. Highlands may be....but our road is a little tougher. One game at a time.

Owensboro's defense will keep them in the game but BG is so balanced and have a few too many offensive weapons, imo. I don't think BG will pile up as many points as there accustomed to, so, I see the score in the 24 -10 range...

The other thread you're speaking of was "Who's going to win the 5A?" in which one BG fan posted they thought BG would be there. Your earlier comment made it appear that we are on the message boards talking about state already. That's not the case with BG....it was merely an answer to a question. Maybe you confused us with the Bluebirds......

Yes, that was a nail biting experience. I forgot to breathe a couple of times!!!:sssh: I was so proud of our boys!!! If I had been there, I would have probably tackled them all to the ground after the win:lol::lol::lol:

 

I will go on to say that we pull off the W on Friday. Will be a very close game, I just hope it is not the heart stopper as the last game was because I don't know if I could survive another one like that:creepy:

 

As for guru's wanting to know the reason for our prediction: BG has shown that they can overcome just about any situation to pull of the W. Honestly last night, I thought at one time that the game was over. Boy, was I wrong. Wallace had two wonderful plays that got the team out of the woods. Max never buckled under the pressure....well, heck, none of the guys did. This team plays until the time runs out on the clock and they can't officially play anymore. They don't look at the score, or the fact that they might be behind, they just keep doing the job that they know they are to do. They are a true team in the true definition of team. Our fans are a part of that team as well. We are all in it together no matter what. Heck, we have other supporters for other teams who consider themselves Purples!!!! These guys will not buckle nor give up!!!!:thumb:

We should be playing at Papa John's but we won't if we don't take cae of business Friday night versus Owensboro. I remember many nail biters against Owensboro when I was younger and we seemed to take turns ending each others' seasons. Should be a great and exciting game.

 

On a side note, on of BG's coaches is actually married to an Owensboro High School alum. Should be a nice week in that house.

Let's keep this discussion strictly on the upcoming Bowling Green/Owensboro game.

Though I've participated in one or two "what if's" between Highlands and BGHS, I have always cautioned that we overlook no one. Some of the Highlands fans are already acting like they have the championship trophy and there's no need to show up for a game. To say that all we're talking about is going back to Louisville is a complete delusion. Sorry, but we play old WKC rival Owensboro this week...and that's where our attention is. I might further add that we are indeed fortunate that football games are not decided on paper...unless you want to produce a lot of inflammatory stuff for the Fieldhouse's bulletin board!

 

This is one of the grand old rivalries of the western part of the state, so many old timers are reminding today's players of the old days. Historically, Owensboro leads the series by a big margin. But the rivalry has its great moments for both sides. It's intense! It is physically and emotionally draining for both victor and loser.

 

In 1990, BGHS won the regular season game 13-3, and Owensboro pulled a 10-0 shocker in the Region One Championship Game. They split two games, but folks don't realize that they each scored 13 total points in the two games! How much more even can you get than that?

 

But history aside, its the first time the two have met since Owensboro won both games against the Purples in 2000. Back then, the Purples were admittedly one-dimensional. No more. The BGHS offense is very hard to stop by anybody. But then, the Purples are about to face what could be the finest defense in the Commonwealth in 2007 in the Red Devils.

 

I think that BGHS will be able to exert just enough firepower on offense to take this one, but I think that it might be just as tight or even tighter than the John Hardin game! But whomever wins the game, I hope that they have enough intestinal fortitude and heart to win just one more time!

 

By the way, Owensboro's lone loss, to Meade County, is not looking so bad now. Meade Co has now won ten in a row by beating Male Friday night! Who would have thought that a team that lost its first three games (the last loss to Greenwood) would be so hot now?
