Football players are put in it during first period and they will come in 30-45 minutes early and lift through the first period. This allows there to be time to do fundamental-centered drills and work after school.

I know a coach who came from a program in Tennessee who said their school had a whole "extra-curricular" block where if you participated in something after school AND your grades were up to snuff in all your other classes, then you could participate in that class everyday. He said his fourth block was football kids everyday and they could lift then start class and be out of practice 30 minutes to an hour after school let out.

I think Georgetown is in a similar position that Michigan was in when they hired Harbaugh with Ohio State in their conference. You've got several contenders in the mid-south conference for national playoff bids each year and Georgetown is always good... just not good enough. GTown finished 15th this year in the final regular season rankings but they also got it handed to them when they played LWC. GTown is a great program with a lot to offer to recruits, but right now they've just been out worked by the boys down in Columbia. As a former player at LWC, I know they view Georgetown as a big rivalry game since the first years of the program. I'll be interested to see if a new hire could get GTown to elite levels again. I feel like all of the ingredients are there, might just need a young guy in there to go in and shake things up. It should attract some great candidates.

Their 2012 team was very tough. Had an undefeated regular season. It doesn't help when Boyle is in your district.

I was going to say the same thing. Not saying he should win it, but the guy was 60 yards short of throwing for 4,000 yards this season. How is he not on the list?

There was a thread posted a few years ago in which someone calculated county dominance based on number of schools, population, class level and wins... etc... I'd love to view that thread and see how it connects with this one.

I think Brandon Smith is pretty easily ahead of Jagger... I'd say Brandon and Jeff Duggins are in a separate tier of their own. And then I think you could make a very good argument for Jagger in third with a few other candidates (Boone Goldsmith, Reed Lanter, Josiah Robbins) in the discussion.

He did still live in Lincoln through all of those jobs but now he has moved down to the crater... I'd say it'd take a good pool of money and a great gig to beat what he's got down in Middlesboro. He's got it made down there.

Congrats to X on the win and MC on the season! Heck of a football game. Both teams showed some really good stuff. MC showed they are on the cusp of being contenders with the big boys and X showed they can come from behind against a solid team and make really good halftime adjustments. I have to say, I think Holcomb should be in the conversation for 6A coach of the year. Compared to what they were last year, this has to be one of the most impressive performances in the state.

I think St. X's best chance of winning this game is to hold the ball and control the clock. Their QB is a solid runner and is going to have to make use of his feet to keep drives alive. He's not good enough to stay in the pocket and pass on them and their OL isn't good enough to use one RB to keep the chains moving the whole game... Not saying X is bad, they are a very very good football team... Male's Defensive box is just elite. If they can spread the field out horizontally and throw completed passes to their #7 and utilize the QB's feet like they did in the first game a little bit more, I think they can keep the ball, create long drives, and make it a football game. If they can't keep the football then I think it becomes a blowout. Male has one of the most complete offenses I've seen in many years at the High School level. They are good. They have weapons at every spot and a very good offensive line being coached by one of the better OL coaches in the state in Cliff Dawson. I do thin St. X has a chance. They are a really good football team... but they just have to be very smart and control the football game for 48 minutes. I'll be interested to see how it goes! Good luck to both teams on Sunday!

I think Boyle is a clear cut better team… but I thought they were a couple of years ago when they gift wrapped the state championship and handed it to JC. JC plays smart, tough, disciplined football and you can’t make any mistakes against them. I’m sure they’ll control the clock and make it a game. That being said I think Boyle pulls it out.

I know it’s early but I’m surprised by the responses so far on this poll. PT had certainly earned their way here and they are a solid football team but how can you ever doubt Haywood and Belfry? I think they boys from the East will pull this one out in a hard fought, tough football game! Good luck to both this week!

Don't underestimate Larry French. He's the number 3 winningest head coach of all time for a reason. I think LCA wins by a couple of scores but I certainly don't think it will be a running clock by halftime. I think it'll be similar to OCath as well. They will fight for a while and eventually wear out. Good luck to both teams!

Bullitt East in 2008 went into the playoffs at 5-5 I believe. They ended up losing to Bell County in the 4A Title game.

To me, (from an outsider who's opinion doesn't really matter) Larkey hasn't done enough at North Laurel to trump a shot at Blair or others. It doesn't seem like an automatic hire would make sense. Larkey Sr has done great things for the Rock Community but that doesn't mean Larkey Jr. should be an automatic shoe-in. Just my two cents. For the program's sake, I hope they keep an open mind about who they plan to hire and pick the best man regardless. Not trying to offend anyone, I wish the best of luck to the program and whoever they hire!!

I feel like this is a very different situation from what happened with Clevenger at Danville. Clevenger was a winning coach who brought the title back to Danville for the first time in over a decade and Perry hasn't had a winning season in several years.

The DC at Madison Central, William Blair is a Rockcastle alum, played in those state championships against Boyle, and has been successful as a DC at Southwestern and now at MC. He would be a great hire for that program as a hometown boy who would want to make a difference in that community.
