Where do you rank Jagger Gillis as a Boyle County QB

Featured Replies

I rank him right behind Jeff Duggins as the 2nd best QB to ever play at Boyle County.

I think Brandon Smith is pretty easily ahead of Jagger... I'd say Brandon and Jeff Duggins are in a separate tier of their own. And then I think you could make a very good argument for Jagger in third with a few other candidates (Boone Goldsmith, Reed Lanter, Josiah Robbins) in the discussion.

All good QB's. I know he was not the best one, and it has been 50 years, but Robert Allen Yankey was an awful good QB. Excellent leader that certainly inspired, brought out the best, in his teammates.

I would put him behind Duggins and Brandon Smith.  Lanter wasn't much of a runner but he had outstanding touch and accuracy.  Bart Johnson wasn't bad either.  I just love me a qb who also plays LB !!!

I can agree with Gillis as the 3rd. best ever and also agree as #2 ever to QB at Boyle.   Gillis doese have a resume to place him as high as #2. He was 2 for 2 at Boyle on Championships.  Gillis did everything asked for him to do.  Run it, pass it, be a leader, and play hard nose defense.  Smith had to follow Duggins  which was no easy task to continue what he had done and he did.

My List would be:

#1 Jeffery Duggins was 44-0 with 3 State Titles at Boyle.  Never lost a game and started this Boyle Dynasty.   The kids was flat out a winner and never lost a game at Boyle! Also played linebacker.

#2a & 2b Brandon Smith and Jagger Gillis both are the only other QB's with multiple Titles at Boyle.  Both where leaders on their team and could pass or run.  Also played linebacker.

What???  Where is C.T. Wolfe?  Andy Baker?  Jon Lee?

1. Jeff Duggins

2. Brandon Smith

3. Jagger Gillis

4. Reed Lanter

5. Bart Johnson

The top 3 all had similar traits. They have/had the ability to run and would lower their shoulder into you when they did. All 3 played LB and excelled at it. They all also have 2 or more state titles.

My Dad put CT Wolfe at #4 behind Gillis. Said he was a stud back in the day.

Went to church with CT and Russ Wolfe. Both good QB's and good guys. They both ran the belly from a 3 back set, along with Andy Baker. Robert Allen ran the wing-t. I think all 3 had a pretty big role in playcalling, where the ball went, etc.

I'm probably the only guy that still loves those gold helmets.  ?

Bottom line... then and now, the Rebels have had some awful good QB's.

I wished I was able to have kept my helmet.

I fixed this up for Lee Glasscock. Also did one for Monty Wilkerson. Great guys, my Dad loved them dearly.

Probably.  So many Black Stars on it Coach Rall just decided it was just easier to just get a new helmet than take them off.  LOL!  Ohh and you get a Penalty Drill for that!
