  1. They're facing a tough matchup in the first round of the district against a Rockcastle County team that has played them close twice. But if they can get to the Region they are a dangerous matchup for anyone. As a team they are shooting 41% from three point range, on 8 made three per game. You add that to their 73% as a team from the free throw line, and they could beat anyone in the Region on a given night. They're certainly not the favorites, and probably not in the top 5. But a dangerous team nonetheless. Coach Young has done a great job with this team. He really plays to their strengths.
  2. Final from Somerset. The Briar Jumpers improved to 15-9. Wayne County dropped to 14-11. Somerset's gym was designated as one of the historic gyms by the Glory Road project. They presented the school with a plaque to mount outside the entrance. Wayne County actually wore they're Monticello High School uniforms that they wore last season when the old Monticello gym was presented the plaque and the same 2 teams played.
  3. Somerset starts one freshman on varsity and he didn't play. The JV had to play with only 5 players tonight against McCreary Central due to the freshman tourney. They managed to win and not have anyone foul out.
  4. Agreed. Somerset gets the #1 seed but a much tougher matchup with Rockcastle County. It's tough to beat a team that three times if you're anywhere close to evenly matched. But Somerset seems to really be playing well. They're shooting over 40% from three point range as a team. Hopefully they stay hot. I also like the recent play of their 3 young inside players in Lonesky, Bartley, and Grundy.
  5. Sounds like a good hire. Good luck Coach Rogers and Casey County.
  6. Final from Somerset. The Briar Jumpers led wire to wire to improve to 14-8. Southwestern drops to 10-14.
  7. So you've been involved in the Casey County, Danville, and Somerset coaching searches/interviews? Busy man.
  8. Final from Pulaski County. Indred Whitaker scored 39 points to lead the Briar Jumpers to the upset. Somerset was down by 11 heading into the fourth quarter.
  9. Given they're stadium situation vs. the situations in Oakland and Tampa there's almost zero chance that a new owner would be able to move them. I don't see a committee recommending a move and, even if they did, I don't see 3/4 of the owners voting in favor of a move.
  10. Doesn't thev classifying system only count the number of boys? Maybe they have a high percentage of female students.
  11. Somerset's leading scorer, Ben Goodby, lost his father suddenly this morning. I don't really know how the team will be able to play this game tonight. I would have to think that this will weigh heavily on the girl's team as well. Prayers to Ben, his family and the team.
  12. That's it. I'm out for this season. I hope they turn it around like Cal's teams have done in the past. But I can't watch this one anymore.
  13. This team, with the strength of the SEC, will be fighting an uphill battle just to make the NCAA Tournament. The Athletic had them listed as a 10 Seed before this loss.
  14. I've got a couple more Twitter handles. But, frankly, I don't care enough about him to bother signing out and back in to see his profile.
  15. I agree about Pulaski. They aren't as good as their record indicates. I wasn't impressed with them in the one game that I watched them live vs. Somerset. They weren't bad, they just looked very beatable. That said, I expected Lincoln to win last night, but not by that large of a margin.
  16. Just a straight up blown call. The announcers even said that there was nothing there and he should have been shooting an and one. Horrible call.
  17. What a game. That one caused me to order a Tulane "Angry Wave" hat just now. You talk about the stars aligning.
  18. No need to remove them from the profession. Now that the NCAA finally acknowledged that college sports are just a business, and that there was nothing truly amateur about them, there's just no reason to hide it.
  19. He had 60 blocks in 29 games. He got those 60 blocks in 683 minutes, one every 11 minutes. Noel averaged one every 7 minutes. Cauley-Stein just didn't play as much. He blocked 25 shots in the 9 games that he started in Noel's stead. He actually blocked 23 in the first 7 games before only getting 1 each in the final 2.
  20. Nothing unexpected here. UK has looked fine against overmatched competition all year. I did like the shortened rotation, and the players looked like they were having fun. Hopefully it will lead to something.
  21. Nerlens got hurt on February 12th and missed the last nine games. They gave up an average of 69 points in those 9 games. They gave up 62.75 with him. But those included the easy non-conference wins. I don't know where they were ranked in defensive efficiency when Noel went down and how far that it dropped. Also, don't forget that his minutes were mostly absorbed by Willie Cauley-Stein who was another great shot blocker.
