  1. The thing is, if the referee blows a scrimmage kick, that doesn't pass the line of scrimmage dead, before it is recovered by the defense, or the recovering player tackled, it is an inadvertent whistle and the down just be replayed. The kicking team can absolutely advance a blocked kick that does not go past the line of scrimmage. Somerset should have gotten a third attempt on an untimed down. Maybe they hit it, maybe not. But the game should have continued.
  2. Baughman sounds like he's a load. Is he related to Jerome Baughman that played there in the 80s? He ran an interception back for a touchdown against us in the state semifinals when the Admirals eliminated us in my last game at Somerset.
  3. On the blocked field goal, did the ball cross the line of scrimmage? If not, Somerset should have been able to advance it.
  4. It was like that the last time Somerset played over there in the mud at "Airport Gardens" in 2011.
  5. Trinity Woodford County Bowling Green Hoban(OH) Ashland Blazer
  6. With that schedule, the stats should look pretty good. But how much of a real contender for anything beyond district will they be? They should have about 7 automatic wins there.
  7. Wow. That's a pretty embarrassing schedule for a once proud program.
  8. He'll never play a minute for UK. He'll use UK to rehab, make his NIL money, workout on pro day, and bounce.
  9. As talented as De La Cruz is, it will be a monumental upset if he, and not Corbin Carroll, is ROY. Carroll has a 56 game head start and is already at 17 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 14 HRs, 51 Runs, 35 RBI, and 19 SB. He's also hitting .313 with a .998 OPS. Barring a major injury, he just has too big of a jump on EDLC.
  10. He's currently 5 for 15 and hitting .333 with a 1.145 OPS. The only downside to his game so far is that he's struck out 9 times in 15 at bats.
  11. And Austin Kearns, 7th overall pick.
  12. You do have to worry about starting his clock, at least for another couple of weeks. He could still reach Super 2 status if he's brought up now. The last couple of years the threshold for Super 2 players was around 2 years and 120 days of service.
  13. That's far from a given. He's proven error prone so far at shortstop with 37 errors in 156 career games. He has played at third base in 9 of his 32 games this season. A decent percentage of scouts think that given his size, speed and arm that he will be best served playing right field. His offensive tools are stunning, but, outside of his arm, his infield skills are raw.
  14. Jim Calhoun taking UConn to national prominence and winning 3 NCAA Championships may be the only one that I can think of that did something of that magnitude. Coach Crum will definitely be missed.
  15. Somerset has a turf infield and a great overall field. There are enough hotels due to the tourism from Lake Cumberland.
  16. At least he was on their National Championship team as a freshman. He even started 20 games that season. So, that one play shouldn't define his career at UVA.
  17. I would have mentioned them, but you didn't want teams that didn't at least make the semi-finals. They lost only the one game, by one point to Boyle County. Then they went to Corbin and beat the Redhounds, who went on to win AA, pretty easily. I think they would have won AA if they had gotten in to the playoffs.
  18. I would definitely have listed them. But the original poster wanted to limit to teams that at least made the final four.
  19. Somerset's best team that came up short was probably not one of the 5 State Runner-Up teams, but a Semi-Finalist. The 1984 team went undefeated until they ran into Newport Catholic. The Jumpers had been rated number one, not only in 2A, but number one overall in the Lit Ratings, as well as being nationally ranked by USA Today. But the Breds came into Somerset and shut down the Jumpers high powered offense to avenge a loss in the semi-finals the year before. It was a wet field that night after a week of rain and that helped contain Somerset's backfield duo of Tony Massey and James Fletcher. But the NCC defense played great with future Mr. Football Frank Jacobs and I think Jeff Brady. They went on to beat Fort Knox the next week. I was a freshman on that Somerset team, so that one still stings a little bit.
  20. As of right now they already have 4 Quad 1 wins: 2 vs Tennessee, Mississippi State (who is at #43), and Texas A&M (who is at #27). Hopefully Mississippi State win at least one against Texas A&M and South Carolina at home and Vanderbilt on the road to stay in the top 75.
  21. Rockcastle played well. You could tell that Somerset just wasn't completely healthy. And when two teams are that evenly matched that can be the difference. Good luck to Rockcastle against Pulaski. The Maroons will also be trying to beat the Rockets for a third time. Should be a good game. Rockcastle started one senior and Somerset's sixth man was their only senior. Both of these teams should be really good next year.
  22. Danville was on fire from three point range. They came in shooting 29% as a team and hit 14 in this game. Somerset came into the game with 2 starters out, and when Godby went down they had no answers for the Admirals. Danville led 42-36 at the half and hit 8 three pointers in the second half while Somerset hit none. If Danville can shoot like they did tonight they'll be a tough out, even with that difficult road in the district.
  23. This is as wide open as I can remember the 12th. They don't really have a State Champion contender. But I think pretty much anyone that gets in the Regional Tournament will be dangerous enough to get to the finals. Barring a couple of big upsets in the District of course. As for the Coach of the Year, I think I'd go with Davis as well. His team really knows their roles and are exactly where they are supposed to be all the time. They really play well together.
  24. I wonder if Memorial Coliseum would be an option. They used to play the All A there.
