  1. I'm rooting for the public school in Mayfield. And ordinarily I would not pick against them playing at War Memorial Stadium in November. However, I think they are a decided underdog this time. First, LCA played their last season and the majority of their players know what kind of atmosphere that they are walking into, I don't think there will be near the intimidation factor that they encountered last season. Second, looking at LCA's body of work: They soundly defeated the number 1 and number 2 ranked teams in 1A, in Raceland(on the road) and Pikeville, by a combined total of 79-34. They also beat the number 1 and number 2 ranked teams in 3A in CAL (who they beat on the road), and Lexington Catholic. They also beat the number 2 team in 5A, Bowling Green, in Bowling Green and scored 56 points in doing so. Bowling Green didn't allow any other opponent to break 40 and only one other team to break 30. Those wins are all very impressive. However, they may have been at their most impressive in their one loss. That 9 point loss on the road in Boyle County marks the only game that a team has come within 21 points of the Rebels, and the only time that they allowed more than 21 points all season. This makes me think that the Eagles are just at a higher level than the other 2A teams this season. Barring injury or bad weather, I just don't see Mayfield being able to pull this one off. I hope they do. However, I'll take LCA 38-24.
  2. LSU may have lost. But Coach Mulkey won the night with that outfit. It doesn't get any better than that.
  3. Both teams can't get a free pass to the semifinals, when they have to play in the quarterfinals, can they?
  4. Almost every jersey is as white as can be at the end of the game. The field wasn't muddy, and the ball certainly wasn't muddy. 🤣🤣🤣
  5. Just like a basketball team that goes winless and gets to play in the district tournament, or soccer teams that are winless.
  6. This is from the 3rd quarter. Does it look like the players are covered in mud, or that the field is muddy?
  7. 4 of the 6 touchdowns came in the final 6 minutes.
  8. The offensive line blew open a hole that I could have ran through. I mean, I'm slow so I would have only went for about 10 yards. But the line did great there.
  9. That touchdown was 100% "want to" by Hughes. They had him after about 3 yards and he just wouldn't quit . He ripped loose from 2 tacklers.
  10. This officiating crew is on the struggle bus tonight. They just don't seem too confident in any of their calls.
  11. As a Somerset alum and fan, I really appreciate the Admirals gifting us a state championship winning coach. Not only for getting rid of him the first time, but for not considering him when the job came open again. I'm not sure I'll ever get over losing Coach Lucas like we did, but I'm happy to have Coach Clevenger. He gets the small school dynamic. At Somerset's homecoming game last week, he had the football team come back out of the locker room early to watch the band do their competition performance. The band is there every week supporting the team, so he made sure to have the team come out and support them. That is the type of thing that you do to get the whole school and community behind your program.
  12. Well, like my high school coach used to say...you'll eventually be on the other side of things and payback is a.....
  13. Seems like a pretty low class move. Any Green County fans have any insight?
  14. Pulaski County gets a field goal on their opening drive, 3-0 Maroons.
  15. And that's impossible to say, unless you're the one making the call..... But it's an easier decision from the 1 1/2 than from the 3.
  16. The Southwestern player losing their composure and getting the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the touchdown with 2 seconds to go made that decision a little bit easier. Great game.
  17. Has there been any verification that he's been cleared by the NCAA? Last I read there wasn't.
  18. Breathitt is really slow. Somerset is scoring quick and Breathitt is having to really sustain drives to move the football. I'd say you time of possession is dead on.
  19. I would put Washington County in there ahead of Breathitt County. They are 4-2 with their losses coming to 1A #10 Bethlehem and 5-1 Nelson County. I would probably put 6-0 Betsy Layne in there at #10, just because they are undefeated, don't normally get to 6 wins in a season. Especially since there really aren't 10 really good 2A teams.
  20. Going by the numbers at the beginning of this thread, Somerset would now be 739-427, .634.
  21. Sorry, I didn't see a thread on the and posted one a little before this one.
