I think the Reds will win more than 65.5 games. Everyone knows the Reds will be bad. Good teams will rest their starters during their series with the Reds. It will be our starters versus their bench players. We will get some wins we don't deserve putting us over the hump.

@Cov_Cath_Hwy put it perfectly. It is more than just a football team, basketball team, soccer etc. It is a brotherhood there. As new classes come in and senior classes depart, that brotherhood might look differently and act differently, but it is still a brotherhood. Some classes are loaded with athletic talent, and some are loaded with academic talent. Each avenue has its ups and downs and when you have a four year stretch of an extreme high of both athletic and academic talent when you return to normal highs of talent obviously it does seem like we’re down. We may be a little hungover from the successes we had, but the PHM isn’t stupid. EE is a very good coach on and off the field. While I haven’t loved the offense that he has run the last 2 years, we were still successful. The chatter I hear in the stands is more questioning than anger and is usually followed by a disclaimer “we are not at practice to see what is going on either” Meaning the personnel may not have the talent in areas that we might think they do. I really like EE. He expects a lot and demands a lot out of the kids. Is he perfect? Absolutely not! He is teaching more than just football; he is teaching real life skills about expectations and responsibilities. I am always really impressed when he has his beginning of the year parent/athlete football meetings. He generally starts out with a carefully worded question each year. He asks, “What is our ultimate goal?” Generally, the response is winning a state championship. His response is, “To get your kids to heaven”. I have been this program for six years and have heard that question/answer six times. 95% or more of these kids will not go on to play football in college. 100% of these kids will eventually leave Cov Cath a little or a lot better person because of him. If the kids meet the demands and expectations of the coach, championships will follow. I do hope he stays but if he decides to find greener pastures, I will wish him the best of luck.

Not sure if Mason is going to play this year. I hope he does because he is a very good athlete and a good kid on top of it. Unfortunately, Mason had a really bad shoulder injury last year. He injured his shoulder preseason and toughed it out for a better part of the season until it got worse and had to stop playing. Apparently, the surgery went well but there was more to fix then what was originally thought.

Not a fan of all the QB draws, and this certainly is a rather vanilla schedule. With that being said, I'm going to throw out a silver lining. Last year's schedule was pretty strong. We played several pretty tough teams but ended up with a significant number of kids on the sidelines injured because of those games. To the point we had quite a bit of sophomores playing in the Fredrick Douglas game because of injuries. That's not ideal for the playoffs and its especially tough when you play against teams like FD, Bowling Green...etc. Maybe with a lighter regular season schedule, you reduce your injuries going into the playoffs and are able to redevelop your offensive scheme without getting people killed. Go Colonels!

That was an awesome game! I was at that game, and you are one of the few people I have interacted with to remember it being a Friday night game too. If your memory is off, then so is mine. Down 21 at halftime is what I remember too. Of course, I was only 14 and my mind wasn't completely on the game.

I'm told he is 220. I saw him at the Highlands vs CCH basketball game, and in my uneducated opinion he looks bigger than that.

I am cautiously optimistic about this year’s team. I think the 2023 team will be better than the ’20, ’21 and ’22 teams, but that’s where I will stop. The 2017-2019 teams were something special and don’t come around very often. You had a combination of great overall teams in addition to the best player to ever come out of the school. We’re not there nor do I think we will get there but we will be very good. The incoming senior class is solid and loaded with plenty of returning starters. They will be shored up by a very good junior class who in my opinion has been very underrated and overlooked. The sophomore class is talented and will see several kids picking up time as well. Like CCHFC pointed out, we are stacked at the skills position, but has concerns about the O-line and D-line. This senior class had a lot of guys waiting in the wings last year to get their turn. Next man up and it’s their turn. I also think this is one of the many areas the junior class will step up. There are several kids who are hitting the weights hard adding some serious strength. Look for these juniors to help shore up the O & D lines. Drew Huber, Isaac Mason and Andrew Finley. Remember Last year’s JV Team lost only two games. One to Elder and one to Beechwood. The offense averaged 30 points a game and the defense gave up an average of 8 per game. These were the guys that saw little to no varsity time. Obviously, there is a significant difference going from JV to Varsity, but the potential is there, as there generally is at CCH. The Linebackers are going to be scary good with a decent amount of depth there as well. Nearly all of the defensive backfield will be back in addition to a decent amount of depth. On the offensive side we have five potential starters at wide receiver. You will probably see Seniors Braylon Miller and Noah Johnson with Junior Oliver Link as the starters and Juniors Cam Mandel and Marcus Suwinski seeing significant time too. The running back position has added good depth also. Obviously, Owen Leen will get the start, but Junior Andrew Bessler and seniors Will Michels and Luke Rabe will add solid depth at the running back position. At QB, it will be Senior Evan Pitzer with Junior Jackson Reardon and Sophomore Geiser to back him. At TE I see Senior Willie Rodriguez being backed up senior Josh Floor and by Juniors Nick Krallman and Tate Kruer. Krallman had a great JV Season at TE and MLB and I look for it to continue this year at the varsity level. So yes, with all that being said, I do think this team will be better than the ’20, ’21 and ’22 teams and will make a deep run going into the playoffs with serious championship potential

Not bad considering he missed a good portion of the season!

Would love to see his cousin in Bengals stripes come this fall.

Congrats to Fredrick Douglas on a great game. Go win it all. Congrats to Cov Cath on a great season. Not the way we wanted it to end but also nothing to hang your head over either. Cov Cath started 5 sophomores in the game against a very good FD team (6 if you include the kicker) and hung with them for the better part of the game. Add those sophomores and several who are waiting their turn on the varsity field to the very talented junior class, good things are going to happen. The future is bright for CCH football over the next few years. Wherever we might land, be it 5A or 4A we will compete.

I hear he could be back but no definite word there. I would be surprised if he is back with the injury he had. Reardon will most likely be back and Rumor has it Rodriguez could be on the field as well.

Rumor has it he could possibly be back for the second round.

That makes a nice finish to the JV season at 7-2 if my count is correct. Bessler is a tough kid!

I like Cov Cath in this one. I think Roberts at QB will be just fine. He's a tough kid and has been throwing the ball well when asked to the whole season and usually coming in without warm up or little to no mental preparation. Moving Jones to tight end adds an extra dimension to the blocking scheme and a big target for QB Roberts. In pre-season I had Ryle as the top team in NKY. Not so much anymore as the season has played out quite differently. The I saw Cov Cath play SK in a "scrimmage game card" dealt out multiple times during the season gets old just like pre-season polls do. From what I hear Ryle has their fair share of injuries too. No gimme for either team. The Colonels will have to "Earn It." Colonels by 7.

I Saw Pitzer on crutches this week along with a lot of other guys in slings and walking boots, so I assume you will see Roberts at QB and a host of other names not normally playing on Friday night. I still think CCH gets the win but maybe not by as big of a margin as some are thinking.

The only varsity game Bessler started was the Simon Kenton scrimmage at the beginning of the year and that was at outside linebacker.

It appeared Bessler and Krallman had something to prove in the JV game. Both played really well! I liked what I saw out of those guys.

I'm going to throw the 90-91 team as one of the best teams at CCH to not win state. That team was ranked at times as one of the top teams in the state. Their only regular season loss came in a tightly fought game against Massillon, OH and an end of season loss at Bell Co. That team had seniors David Wilson (Miami, OH), Barry Jones (University of KY), Nate Rodig, (University of Dayton) Jim Danneman (XU Baseball) and a host of other guys that went on to play at smaller colleges. Not to mention Adam McCormick, Chad Cogswell were contributing sophomores on that team.

I'm not sure if it was that particular game, but yes, Jason Colemire got hurt (I think ACL tear) which opened the door for Shaun Alexander.

I suspect you will see a few new faces in the CCH line up this week. Possibly looking to see who will step up and fill in some spots left open from injuries.

Yes, Justin played three years of soccer freshman through junior year and from what I remember he was pretty good at that. Decided to come out for football his senior year and got a walk on option from Lou Holtz at Notre Dame. Not bad for one year of high school football.
