Last week Coach Warner almost picked up his first district win as head coach at Boone County in the Rebels' 17-14 loss to Conner. Unfortunately, it looks pretty highly unlikely that they will have much opportunity to notch their first district win in the rest of this seasons, with Covington Catholic headed to Florence on Friday, and then Highlands and Cooper following in the next two weeks.

Coach Eviston is currently 3-0 against Boone County as a head coach at Covington Catholic and the average score over Boone has been 43-4. Going into the 42nd installment of the Cov Cath vs. Boone County series on Friday, the Colonels lead it 29 wins to 12.

Despite winning last week over Cooper in their first week of district play, Cov Cath struggled to really get much going, although still outgaining the Jags 301 yards to 148 yards. The Colonels also lost offensive and defensive playmaker Willie Rodriguez in the game, who he went out in the 1st quarter with an elbow injury after diving to try to make a catch near the goal line. Junior starting tackle Seth Jones also left the game in the 2nd quarter after aggravating an ankle injury he suffered in the Beechwood game the week prior.

Will Cov Cath use this week to recoup and try out some new faces in the game? Maybe try out a few new defensive sets and offensive looks against the Rebels now that they have at least one starter to replace?

What do you expect to see happen this Friday on Irv Goode Field at Owen Hauck Stadium?

I haven't heard anything myself, no.

If they are having issues with their lights, which that is being circulated around NKY pertaining to their hosting the 33rd District Boys Soccer Tourney, than moving this game up to 6:00 seems to be an inadequate move to avoid darkness.  Sunset is around 7:30, not sure what the math is on this, but if their lights are not working, this game will be dark quick.

This will be a running clock in the first half. Is this rivalry's drop-off a top example of the negative effects of suburban sprawl? Even before most teams went to the heavy passing game, CovCath started separating themselves from Boone Co. within how many years of Ryle opening. I know Boone made the state semi's in 1998, when was the last time Boone had an actual chance in this one?

These are the most recent games in the series where Boone either contended or won. 2003 is the latest series win for the Rebels.

Ryle opened in, I believe, 1992 or 1993. Cooper's first football season was 2008. BCHS has had their program gutted by urban sprawl.

2000 - Boone County won 37-12

2002 - Cov Cath won 14-0

2003 - Boone County won 23-21

2011 - Cov Cath won 28-20

 

I suspect you will see a few new faces in the CCH line up this week.  Possibly looking to see who will step up and fill in some spots left open from injuries.
