Can't comment on Dixie and their numbers, but Cov. Cath. does have 5 sophomores either starting or are major contributors. Oliver Link, Tate Kruer, Ben McEvoy, Andrew Weitzel and Andrew Bessler all either start or get significant time. Not to mention a large number of juniors who start or get significant time as well. I would certainly call this a young team for CCH.

Correct. Not sure how that happens, but yes CCH's homecoming dance is tomorrow night, so I guess by default that makes this the homecoming game. I'm not sure what happened but heard it had to be moved for reasons beyond their control and with other activities at the school this was the only weekend they could make work. 21-10 CCH

I used to think the same thing about soccer, unless one of my kids were playing. Lately, I've found myself at two FC Cincinnati games this year and have actually sat down and watched a couple on TV as well. I kind of like watching now. They seem to do a pretty good job.

I agree with everything you said. The secondary looked weak and the linebackers weren't much better.

Connor has a lot of young talent coming up in the ranks. They will be contenders. Just didn't see it coming this soon.

I love my Colonels, but they will have to play significantly better than they did last week to pull off the win.

SK Played a very nice game and will give 6A teams a lot of problems. Friday night they were the better team and will be the better team in most of their games this year. CCH is not a bad team, but they didn't look good either. A couple of key plays that they couldn't capitalize on could have made a difference in the game, but that's what makes good teams, good teams. SK made the plays, CCH didn't which gave them the win Friday. I'm not down on my Colonels as they are young and lack varsity experience. This team has a lot of Junior starters and I think they have four Sophomores either starting or getting significant play time. They're going to have a tough early season with Elder, Pikeville and Lex Cath right out of the gate, but by the second half of the season I think they will be battle tested and ready to roll into the playoffs. The future is bright at CCH with the young players not just at the varsity level, but the JV and Freshman looked lights out good. I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong as it was hard to follow the split field games, but the JV game was 28-0 CCH and the Freshman game was 29-6 CCH

It was game format last year but wasn't sure if they would change that from year to year and I'm not totally familiar with Simon Kenton's facility. Admittedly, if not obvious I'm pretty new to the high school football scene.

Any idea on the format? And will the freshman play on a different field like they did last year?

I think you will see Roberts at linebacker more than you will QB. He's a big strong kid that seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He'll be on the field quite a bit, but probably not at QB.

These should be great games! I love this time of year.

I think Conner will be competitive. They have a nice Freshman/Sophomore class coming up that will give them some depth at the varsity level. I don't think this year is their year but over the next two years they will be difficult to handle.

I heard Covington Catholic beat Cincinnati Moeller yesterday in 7 vs 7. I didn't hear a final score but did hear it was by a couple of touchdowns. I know 7 vs 7 is basically flag football and significantly different than the real thing, but it does show that where they struggled passing the ball last year, this year might be a different story. Fingers crossed it's a sign of good things to come.

I hate to admit it, but I made a mistake. I knew was missing someone, but I didn't take the time to look. I would put SK at #6 and bump the rest down 1 notch. I understand SK has a lot of seniors coming back and that will make a huge difference, but last year's 2-9 record doesn't project for a great season this year. But it's early preseason top 10, anything can happen and I could be wrong again.

No, I don't think you're missing anything. Hopefully, I'm just sandbagging on my Colonels. I agree the defense will be very good, but like last year, the QB will be the question. From what I hear, (And not from an official source) the junior Pitzer, is QB1 right now, but the sophomore Reardon and Senior Roberts are a close second and third. All three are tough kids, but have little or no varsity experience. I would like to see how they develop before I rank them higher.

Looks like Kings Hammer is well represented. I'll add U15 boys to your list as they are Freshman going into Sophomore year. Boys NKY Fusion 07 Green Kings Hammer 07 Academy Grey. Unfortunately, these two teams play in the first quarter final round Saturday morning in Bowling Green. Would have liked to have seen these two play in the semis or the finals. Both are 3-0 in the tournament.

Who will be the players to watch for this year? I know they are ending their spring practice tonight, but haven't heard much about them other than Aiden Jones.
