Beechwood 26 Covington Catholic 14 (JV)

Featured Replies

The Tigers JV turned the tables on the Colonels in today's JV game. Beechwood was in control of this game from start to finish. Covington Catholic scored a late 4th quarter TD to narrow the gap in the score.

QB Shawn Sowder had a nice game connecting on three TD passes and also mixing in some solid runs. Two of Sowder's passes went to Luke Erdman and the other to Chase Flaherty. Zander Riegler scored Beechwood's other TD. Beechwood's JV is undefeated in three games. Their other two wins were over Campbell County and Simon Kenton..

My thoughts on the BW JV…  they have 4 skilled players that would be starting on almost any team in NKY.  That Sowder to Erdman connection is crazy good. I’ve watched at least 3 perfectly timed passes hitting Erdman in full stride. Flaherty and Reigler are producers as well.  Provided we can develop strong O and D lineman, the future is extremely bright.

Good to hear and all the Erdmans are blessed with great athletic ability.

No doubt. I didn’t think it was possible, but Luke may be the most blessed.   Looking forward to watching him for the next couple of years.

If that is the case with Luke, look out!!

Missed this one.  Judging by the score the answer is no but were there any stand outs for Cov. Cath.?

Sowder is a junior correct? Why wouldn't he get a look at QB instead of the freshman?

Great question. Perplexing ain’t it.

That is a good question. I have seen Sowder at QB for three years now. I did not see him in Beechwood's first two JV games so I don't know how he looked in those games. I go by what I see and that CCH game is the best I have seen him. Some players change a lot in that sophomore to junior off season. Former Beechwood QB Brayden Burch was drastically better as a junior than he was a sophomore. Sowder looked a lot better than what I saw of him as a sophomore.

He only played two games as a sophomore.  His first against CCH with similar results as this game.  The next game against SK he was concussed and only did Defense once he was allowed to return.  Didn’t take another snap till Clay was unfortunately injured.  Then had very similar games like this all year.
