So close, yet so far. Action from todays Covington Catholic at Highlands JV game. The Colonels came away with a 21 to 15 win over the Birds.

Interesting! So Colonels take 2/3 from Birds this year in regular season. All were close games. All could have went either way. So the parity is there this year. Here’s hoping it stays that way and there aren’t any more extended win streaks.

It would be interesting to know how many sophomores each team had start  in the varsity game last night that didn’t play in the JV game today.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any HHS sophomores who start varsity anymore. I know there was one on the OL early in the year but I do not believe he is anymore. A couple get snaps here and there but HHS is very much Jr. and Sr. driven.

Cov Cath:

Jackson Reardon  DB  (had 5 solos, so assuming didn't play JV today, but is a QB too)

Isaac Mason  NG

Oliver Link  WR

For CCH add Kruer at LB, and Bessler at DB.

Bessler played both ways on JV.

Bessler only played special teams on Friday.

Gotcha but the original post was calling out sophomores that played Friday and didn’t Dress in the JV game. Sorry if I misunderstood.

No, you're correct. Bluesport was mistaken about Bessler starting on Friday and not playing JV. Bessler didn't start on Friday unless you're counting special teams units only as being a "starter."

Then who played qb for cov. Cath jv?

Highlands has to do a better job of securing the Football. The story of this matchup from I was told. Wish I could of been there. Another Sat morning Soccer game.

It was #25. I believe his name is Evan Vinson.

Sophomores starting on JV or varsity - what does that tell us. Does the program starting more sophomores on varsity have more talent? It could be argued either way. It could be said the program with fewer sophomores has too much talent in front of them to get varsity time. Or you could say the team playing sophomores on varsity has more talent because they are soooo talented the coach had to play them on varsity.

Just my opinion, but I think a few of the HHS JV boys may have been up a little late celebrating. I know the parent crew at the game was a little rough at 10am. Just sayin. No excuses though, ball security was the topic of the weekend for the Birds for sure!
