Luke Maile in the MLB (Cov Cath '09)

Recommended Posts

Maile was the 2009 Kentucky Mr. Baseball, Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Kentucky High School Player of the Year and was named to the Max Preps All American team. In high school he set and still holds several Cov Cath single season and career school records including an incredible career batting average of .494.

He was drafted in the 43rd round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox, but opted to accepted a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Kentucky instead. Luke was awarded Academic All SEC twice ('11 & '12), and in 2012 was named All American Honorable Mention, All SEC 2nd Team, a semi-finalist for the USA Golden Spikes Award and Dick Houser Trophy, and was drafted in the 8th round by the Tampa Bay Rays. In the minor leagues, Luke was an All Star and made his MLB debut on September 1, 2015 vs the Baltimore Orioles.

He played for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2015-2016, Toronto Blue Jays from 2017-2019, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2020 season but spent the abbreviated season on the inured reserve because of a broken index finger that required surgery. He was signed to the Milwaukee Brewers this year, and today in Spring Training he hit a four-bagger off of the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, Trevor Bauer, who's currently with the LA Dodgers.

Luke was picked up by the Cleveland Guardians back on March 14th. They sent him to the Columbus Clippers on a rehab assignment on April 15, and activated him back on their roster on April 25.

He's currently seen action in 4 games, and he's batting .300 with an OBP of .417 ...and he was apparently .600 while he was rehabbing with the Clippers in AAA.
