  1. Mayfield strikes 1st with a TD after a Murray turnover... 7-0 Cards with 10:00 to go in 1st..
  2. This should be a good game.. Union Co is better than getting credit for.. Will be surprised if this ones not competitive..
  3. A battle of the 2 best teams in Ky.. I think Trinity is a notch or 2 better than the Tigers, but, my gut is telling me that X pulls the upset as they'll play with a little more edge due to having to play a full 4 quarters this week while T basically had a cakewalk and little to get inspired about.
  4. VOR, funny you should say that.. Someone at the game tonight said during the late stage of the game that if Mayfield loses this game tonight, they'd win state and if the won tonight, they wouldn't. I don't necessarily agree, but, I think he was basically saying they'd learn more from a loss and be a tougher out come playoff time, same as what you're saying.. Games like this can only help down the road.
  5. This whole year, the talk in 2A has basically centered around the so-called Big 5 and then everyone else... Coming off 3 consecutive weeks of knocking off highly ranked teams from other classes, 2 of those from larger classes, to go along with a strong loss performance against the #1 team in 1A, 4 weeks ago, do the Jumpers now belong in that discussion with the other Big 5 teams and should we now call it the Big 6? During this hot stretch, they've given up 7, 9, 12 and 6 points, showing that there D is very legit and if the saying "Defense wins championships" still holds true, then, IMO, they definitely deserve to be mentioned amongst that elite bunch of teams. Thoughts? Opinions?
  6. LCA has a hell of an offense.. Those guys are going to be hard to stop in the playoffs.. Them and Danville should be an epic matchup..
  7. Oakland, Tn. remains unbeaten with an impressive 42-21 win over previously unbeaten Blackman, Tn. in a battle of 6a ranked teams..
  8. Union City, Tn. goes to 4-1 on the season with a big 42-21 victory at Poth, Tx, giving Poth it's 1st loss of the season..
  9. Just back from the game.. Great game by 2 quality football teams.. It was back and forth all night, blow for blow.. Stats were basically even.. I thought the officiating was okay, not great, but, didn't cause either team to win or lose.. I thought Corbin's game plan worked well for them.. In the 1st quarter, they got the ball 1st and put together a long, sustained drive and even though they got stopped on a 4th down attempt inside the 5, they still ate up about 6 minutes off the clock.. Mayfield then put a good drive together and, like Corbin, ended up coming up empty deep in Red Hound territory.. Corbin ran 4 or 5 plays on its next drive and end of 1st quarter.. Corbin only had 4 1st half posessions and Mayfield had 3 and a 4th but only about 40 secs before half on the last one.. Mayfield was able to muster a fg in the 1st half and ran out of time in the 2nd quarter inside the Corbin 10.. Corbin managed 1 drive that resulted in points and went into the half with a 7-3 lead, but, holding Mayfield to only 3 possessions was a big factor.. They were controlling the clock and Sizemore was big running the ball and keeping drives alive with key 1st half runs and did a great job disguising the bubble screen to Estep, that resulted in some nice gains, as well.. In addition, Sizemore's cadence must have been really deceptive because he caused the Cardinal DL to jump off sides 5 or 6 times in the 1st half, which also kept some drives alive or left them in 2nd and 3rd downs with short yardage which was a bigger factor than most realized.. I thought the Cards had some success on the offensive end in the 1st half, hitting on some key throws and being pretty effective running the ball, they just didn't have enough possessions and Corbin was able to keep Mayfield from getting behind them in the secondary and while the Cards completed some nice passes, the Hound secondary came up big on some plays as well.. Both D's were kind of bend but not break and came up with key stops.. The 2nd half, the Cards got the ball 1st and on the very 1st play from scrimmage, hit on a beautiful 65 yard TD strike to retake the lead at 10-7.. After a couple of punts by both teams, Corbin got on the board again with a beautiful pass from Sizemore hitting his receiver in stride in the end zone to go up 13-10 early in the 4th.. After a couple of Card 1st downs, the Hounds then got a pick and had good field position at around there own 40.. They made a couple of key 3rd down conversions in that drive, before Sizemore hit on a 30 yard TD play that resulted in another score, going up 20-10.. That was the trick play that the kid looked like he was going off the field on a player change, but, stayed in bounds and no one was covering and he had an easy 6 into the end zone.. The Cards came right back, scoring on a very good drive to cut the lead to 20-17 with a little under 6 minutes left.. The Cards were able to hold the Hounds to a 3 and out on its next drive and took the ball back with under 3 minutes.. The Hounds held them on a 4th down play.. Again they were held to a 3 and out, but, the Cards had under a minute remaining to try and move the ball 75 yards, but, the Hounds got a sack, an incompletion and then an interception to thwart any comeback hopes the Cards had.. They lined up in victory formation and only had to snap it one time and game over, 20-17 Corbin.. Overall, great game by both teams.. Corbin just played a little better and made a couple more key plays.. Very impressed with Corbin's punter, who kicked them into poor starting field position 2 or 3 times when you would have thought Mayfield would be getting the ball in good shape.. Impressed with Estep kid on a couple of runs after catch.. Kid is quick and seemed to get an extra 3 or 4 yards after contact.. Sizemore is a load to bring down, but, also throws a very nice ball and showed a lot of accuracy.. I though Stinson looked good.. Not sure what some on here saw, but, I thought the kid played with poise and made some tremendous throws and had very good pocket presence. I also thought Guthrie played a great game at WR.. Kid has very good hands.. Stinson also punted the ball very well, backing Corbin down deep a couple of times.. The main issue for Mayfield was they struggled running the ball in the 2nd half.. Halliburton, there starting RB, didn't play and Hurt seemed hobbled the whole 2nd half, so, he didn't get any calls with the ball and Corbin obviously made some adjustments and did a better job closing the holes in the 2nd half.. Also, impressed with Corbin's open field tackling and pursuit to the ball.. They made it tough in the 2nd half.. Congrats Red Hounds on the win. Mayfield has nothing to hold its head about either.. You played solid all night, just came up a little short and didn't execute as well as usual, but, give credit where credit's due.. Both teams will still be a serious load in the playoffs, I guarantee that much..
  10. According to MaxPreps, Desales is ranked #20 in the State of Ohio after this weeks loss.. They were ranked #6 last week.. They're ranked 296th nationally.. In comparison, CC is ranked #2 in Ky and #152 nationally.. Desales has a 43.7 rating and a 24.0 strength of schedule while CC has a 50.0 rating and a 26.7 strength of schedule.. All signs point to CC in this one, especially at home..
  11. 1) Trinity 2) St Xavier 3) PRP 4) Covington Catholic 5) Scott Co 6) Bowling Green 7) Simon Kenton 8) Male 9) Johnson Central 10) Desales 11) Belfry 12) Ryle 13) LCA 14) Mayfield 15) Danville 16) South Warren 17) Butler 18) CAL 19) Corbin 20) Boyle Co 21) Elizabethtown 22) South Oldham 23) Ballard 24) Beechwood 25) Rockcastle Co
  12. I'd have it like this at the current moment: 1) DESALES 2) LCA 3) MAYFIELD 4) DANVILLE 5) CAL 6) SOMERSET 7) NCC 8) GLASGOW 9) LLOYD MEMORIAL 10) W.VERONA

  14. Here's the ones knocking on the door just outside the Top 25: 26) Central 27) Meade Co 28) South Oldham 29) Caldwell Co

Well here it is after 5 weeks.. A couple of things that really stand out to me is #1), Johnson Central at #5.. I think they're a very, very good team, but, hard for me to rank them ahead of Scott Co and a few others below them..#2) Lex. Catholic remaining in the Top 25. The Lafayette and Highlands wins are not nearly what they would have been in the past few years and getting blown out twice, I'm not feeling them at this point and time.. #3) 5 2A teams in the Top 15, LCA #8, Danville #9, Mayfield #10, Desales #11 and CAL #15.. Very impressive 2A class this year..
  16. I voted Belfry, but, I think Boyle Co, Corbin and E'Town are all right there closely behind.. Central, Lex Cath and Caldwell a step behind the 1st 4..
  17. Honestly, I'm not too sure LCA hasn't been the most impressive team in the class, especially offensively.. Danville's close call against an average, at best, Waggoner team, gives me some doubts about them defensively.. I'd probably have Desales at #1 right now because of the quality of there wins and I think they have the best defensive team in the state.. My concern with them is can they score enough to beat a Mayfield or LCA, as those 2 will most certainly score some points against them.. CAL is still as talented as anyone, but, they've got to find some answers on offense outside of Wright.. Mayfield is about right at 3 or 4.. Another very explosive offensive team, but, need to shore up the D the past couple of weeks..
  18. District 1 6a should be interesting this year.. McCrackens down a little and Henderson, Daviess and Apollo all look to be improved.. should be wide open..
  19. I don't expect this one to be all that close. Too much talent, depth and offensive playmakers for LCA. On the flipside, kudos to KCD for scheduling this type team to help prepare them for the latter playoff rounds. LCA 42 KCD 14
  20. Caldwell's a very good team. Tilghman is capable of knocking them off, but, I don't expect them to be all that challenged till the region finals and with a break or 2, are capable of making it to state.
  21. Another quality win for the Jumpers.. Congrats.. LCA and Danville better be on full alert that they have another high quality & capable team to deal with in there district..
  22. Caldwell jumped out on Graves quickly, scoring 3 TDs in the 1st 5 minutes of the game with some help from Graves on turnovers.. After that initial onslaught, Graves played well, just dug themselves too big a hole, plus Caldwell is a pretty solid team, especially defensively.. Graves also played that game without there starting QB.. They've improved as the year's gone on.. I think Christian has more overall talent than Graves does, but, they haven't been playing all that well this year in comparison to last, despite how many kids returned.. Sometimes its not the numbers returning that matters as much as it is the quality that they lost.. Personally, I think CC will beat Graves, but, I do think it'll be a close game and I wouldn't be shocked if Graves pulled it off..
  23. Mayfield's offense is top notch.. There OL is very good and they're mixing it up thru the air and on the ground very efficiently.. While there D showed some holes tonight, you have to give Graves some credit.. They've got a huge OL, a very skilled and experienced QB, a top notch WR and a couple of big backs that run it very hard.. I also think Mayfield's D got somewhat fatigued tonight as it was pretty humid early and they were having some cramping issues, plus they've played 5 straight games against some pretty physical teams and they're nursing several nicks and bruises.. That combination of things make it look worse than what it actually is.. Coach Morris basically said the same thing at the postgame interview, but, also, said he felt they played pretty well on both sides of the ball.. They'll have 1 more real test in Corbin next week, then hopefully they can coast for the next 4 weeks and get everyone to 100% before the playoffs get rolling..
  24. Graves played pretty well tonight.. They were able to move the ball behind that big OL and Mathis found his receivers pretty consistently.. Mayfield played pretty well, also, especially offensively.. They moved it well on the ground and in the air, but, did make a couple of turnovers after sustained drives that kept the Eagles hanging around. The D gave up a couple of long drives and a big play or 2, but, also got some key stops when needed..
