I'm really looking forward to this one. 2 very evenly matched teams. I do feel that both teams offenses are better than there defenses, which likely means a high scoring affair, but, it'll likely come down to who turns it over less and who can get a few more stops or at least a stop down the stretch.. LCA averaging 52 a game is impressive, for sure, but, I don't see them getting that against the Ad defense, but, I do think they'll do enough to come away with a win... LCA 41 Danville 35

Whether of not Mayfield is good enough to win it all is debateable, not because they aren't that good, but, because of how good some of these other teams are. Personally, I really like this years Mayfield team.. I was worried going in, if they had the quarterback play good enough to lead them to a championship, but, I'm not worried about that any longer.. I think they have a couple of really good ones that can lead the team just fine.. The OL is very good as neither QB has been sacked or pressured much at all.. While they don't have a Trajon Bright at the RB spot, they do have 3 or 4 kids capable of carrying the rock effectively and all have good speed.. The WR's are exceptional.. There defense has looked great at times and a little shaky at others, but, I do feel the DL is better than last year and the secondary about the same with the LBs a notch or 2 below last years group.. Also, the special teams have played very well although they don't have near the placekicker as last year.. Overall, a little deeper offensively with a better OL, but, not quite the star power that Landon and Trajon brought to the table.. Defensively, a step below on the back end and a step above in the trenches.. I think this years team would certainly hold it's own vs last years and I fully expect they'll be a very tough out for whoever they may meet in the playoffs..

Outside of Belfry, there's not a lot of competition left.. 4A is as down as any class I've seen in a long time. Your #2 thru 5 teams would be lucky to be in the Top 10 in normal years and most would be in the bottom half of the Top 10, if that good, in any other class..

Danville has only been to Mayfield, maybe once.. I think they beat Mayfield that year and the following year, Mayfield played at Danville and beat them at their place.. That was like 2001 and 2002.. Other than those 2 meetings, every other meeting between the 2 were in Louisville in the title game and all played in either late 80s or early 90s..

Desales played CAL, not LCA..

Not sure what to take from this game.. On one hand, I think Danville showed it has a legit, top notch offense, because the Jumpers D has been holding some good teams to some low scoring totals.. On the other hand, the Ads give up 26 points and survived another couple of drives inside there red zone where Somerset didn't come away with any points. This same team has struggled to put points on the board against the other good teams on there schedule.. So what does this all mean? Not too sure, but, imo, the Ads offense is going to score points on about anyone else they're going to play, barring turnovers, but, I think they may struggle against a team like LCA who is probably the most balanced offensive team in 2a.. I could see that game having 90+ points with the one who has the ball last winning..

CAL needs to get there offense fixed or they can expect the same result in November.. Wright is a great talent, but, he can't do it all by himself and the Colts basically just keyed on him and said someone else beat us and no one was able to step up for CAL..

I don't understand why everyone gets on Simon Kenton's case regardless what they do.. Seems people can't wait to jump on the 1st little thing they do that can be construed as negative.. Even in this piece, they're conceived as trending down after beating the 4th best team in NKy.. Plus, it talked about surprisingly struggling against the Tigers.. Hey, if Beechwood truly is the #4 team in NKy, then why would it be surprising if that game was close? CalPreps has the Beechies at #18 in the entire state, regardless of class, so, if anything, SK should be trending up or at the very least, staying the same. If you're looking at the comparative scores between Cov Cath against the 2, then CC is clearly the best team in NKy.. I don't think there was much question to begin with.. Or, if you're downgrading them because they aren't in Trinity's caliber, then join the rest of the state, who aren't either..

I'm pulling for the Colts.. Lot's of good, high character fans there.. Not that CAL fans aren't, but, the Desales bunch go out of there way to show respect and they're knowledgeable fans that give praise where do without making excuses or gloating.. Hard not to like those guys and appreciate what they've got going on over there..

If Carr is still out, I like Desales to take this one and if he's out for the season, I also think they win the rematch..

What's worse is Calloway probably has its worse team in the last 20 years, so, I doubt the Pikeville starters play more than a half.. Dang, if they were going to drive this far for a game, it's a shame it couldn't be a Mayfield, Caldwell, Tilghman type team they could play..

You can see QB Stinson getting better and better each week and playing with more confidence.. The kid has a cannon of an arm and has improved his touch on his throws.. IMO, to make a long playoff run, I think they need to get WR-Jack Murrell more throws his way.. Harrison, Matthews, Guthrie and a couple of others are solid receivers with good speed, but, Murrell has the break away speed plus the ability to break tackles in the open field, plus he's got strong hands to come down with balls in traffic. Seems like they could utilize his abilities a little more than what they do.. The defense is going to have to improve, as well.. I think the D-line is stronger than last year, but, outside of Hurt, the LBs and DBs are going to have to wrap up better and not let receivers get behind them.. They have the speed in the secondary to keep receivers in front of them, but, there's been a few too many breakdowns in coverage for my liking.. The good thing is, all this is very fixable & if they do shore those things up, they're going to be tough to handle for anyone..

I agree AtlCat.. There are a lot of small county schools out there that may take up football with this type option.. There are several schools like that in all areas across the state that if they joined up may solve the travel issue.. In West Ky alone, you have Hickman Co, Carlisle Co, Livingston Co, Lyon Co as well as some private schools like University Heights, St Marys, Trinity Whiteside, etc.. If you could add 10-12 schools like that to go along with 10-12 current playing members that may opt to go to 8-man and you'd have a good # of teams to have your own thing going on..

At one time, Ky. had 8 Man football. Should it come back into play or is it still around? I ask this because I noticed on the Riherds scoreboard tonight that there were a couple of forfeits around the state and I'm assuming that was due to some of those teams not having enough players to field a team due to injury or whatever. I know teams like Fulton City, Fulton Co and a few others typically only dress 15-20 kids, so, 3 or 4 injuries and they can't field a team. This problem isn't only limited to 1a schools. I've seen 2a, 3a and even 4a teams that struggle to field more than 20 kids. Just seems to me that having that option of 8 man football could be a solution and may could even entice some non playing football schools to start up a program until they could build up a feeder program from the elementary and middle schools.. I could go on, but, I think you can see what I'm trying to say. What's everyones thoughts on this? Would it be a good idea?
