BluegrassPreps Class 2A Football Rankings (10/9) Discussion

Featured Replies

Class 2A

A pair of elite District face offs highlighted last week’s action and both lived up to the billing. DeSales rode a dominant Defense to a win over rival Christian Academy- Louisville and Danville held off a late Somerset rally to secure another signature win for the top ranked Admirals. Somerset has to rebound quickly as they take on the other undefeated District 7 foe Lexington Christian Academy, but this time away from the Briar Patch. Though the rankings may not be as high, a pair of big time District clashes will be the focus again this week with major playoff implications. In Northern Kentucky, Lloyd and Newport Central Catholic have been on a collision course and will square off. On the other pole of the state, Monroe County and Glasgow will battle for the District’s #1 seed.

1. Danville vs. Middlesboro

2. DeSales at Washington County

3. Lexington Christian Academy vs. #7 Somerset

4. Mayfield vs. Ballard Memorial

5. Newport Central Catholic vs. Lloyd Memorial

6. Christian Academy-Louisville at Shawnee

7. Somerset at #3 Lexington Christian Academy

8. Walton-Verona vs. Carroll County

9. Glasgow vs. Monroe County

10. Owensboro Catholic at Todd County Central

Crickets...chirp chirp...okay I'll go first. You can switch up the top any way you want. And I take anybody lightly in this week's top 10. I went on Calpreps game predictions and set combinations of the top 5 and got nothing but close games. For what its worth department, they us had losing to Danville, LCA, and barely getting by Mayfield and CAL...the other games had a scramble of results acording to whome yout placed at home. Oh well, its only as good as the paper it was printed, nothing.

Somebody should call Ken Burns and have him make a documentary from the quarter-finals on to the championship.

Cry in my beer moment...From the DeSales perspective, the Colts have a tough chore on an annual basis. We would have to beat CAL (with Carr back in the lineup), Mayfield, and Danville/LCA to win the title. And this year, that road would include a trip to Mayfield. I think Bart Starr and the Packers were the last team to beat them at home in the playoffs. Of course, CAL has the same predicament. I don't think any other team would have as tough of a road starting in the QUARTER finals....

Curious.....how does Newport Catholic fair playing Danville, Mayfield or DeSales schedule? Are they potentially more battle tested, playoff ready. I haven't seen anyone but Mayfield play. If Hurt would have been healthy they do not lose to Corbin. But I'm not convinced they are the dominate team. Maybe 1 year away......

Danville has only been to Mayfield, maybe once.. I think they beat Mayfield that year and the following year, Mayfield played at Danville and beat them at their place.. That was like 2001 and 2002.. Other than those 2 meetings, every other meeting between the 2 were in Louisville in the title game and all played in either late 80s or early 90s..

Actually I recall Danville winning there in 2003 as well. Boyle was down the road and winning at PT the same night.

In 2003 Danville won 25-3 at Mayfield in the AA Semi's.

In 2001 the Ads won 17-10.

They played at Admiral Stadium in 2002 where the Cards won 17-7.

Ads also beat the Cards in the semi-finals in 2004 at DHS 33-14.

I think those are the only times they've played outside of the State Title Games.

I remember the game in 2001, Mayfield and Danville were in a very tight contest where it looked like either could win, I believe Mayfield got to conservative towards the end and Danville's Vaught scored a TD near the end of the game.

Too bad Mayfield hasn't played Danville in the last 11 or so years, I think some things might have changed.

I would say they would have lol

There's been some real battles between the 2 programs.

Several battles, some that could gone either way, a few where Danville was clearly the better team. Danville has always had one of the best programs in the state. I would love to see a battle this season.
