  1. Who replaces Gus Howlett as QB1 for the Eagles?
  2. ATH/DB Luke Erdman - Beechwood - Class of 2025 RB Chase Flaherty - Beechwood - Class of 2025 WR James Cusick - Beechwood - Class of 2025 QB Cash Harney - Beechwood - Class of 2026 QB Clay Hayden - Beechwood - Class of 2025 LB/FB Jordan Wagner - Beechwood - Class of 2025
  3. Lee is a WR now? Haven't seen him in since last season, but he was one of the most dominant youth/middle school running backs I've seen in NKY in a while. No more RB for this young beast?
  4. Final from Park Hills yesterday. W - Matthew Kappes (4-0) L - Colin Gastright (4-2) * Behind junior right hander Matthew Kappes, Beechwood (21-3) knocked off Covington Catholic (13-9) yesterday in a 35th District seed game at CovCath. Kappes threw all 7 innings, allowed only five hits, no runs, no walks, and 8 strikeouts. * Kappes' complete game shutout was his 4th win of the season in four starts. He's beaten three RPI-ranked top 78 teams in those four starts - #21 Dixie, #58 CovCath, and #78 Ryle. In his four starts this season, he has compiled an ERA of 0.74, a 0.74 WHIP, and struck out 21 batters in 19 innings. * Beechwood scored their only run in the first inning on an RBI groundout by junior catcher Brice Estep. The RBI was Estep's 48th of the season, which currently puts him #1 in that category in the state -- two ahead of Paintsville's Baron Ratliff. * Junior outfielder Cameron Boyd scored on Estep's groundout. Boyd walked to open the inning, stole second base, advanced to third on a throwing error by CovCath catcher Jonathan Fitz attempting to gun down the speed Boyd, and scored easily on the Estep grounder.
  5. Different arena, but same idea....my stepson, who is 12, played in his NKB league last night and the opposing coach allowed his struggling starter to throw 86 pitches in the FIRST INNING. Between the complete and utter nonsense in youth baseball and some of the stuff I've seen in the 9th Region this year in terms of ridiculous, obscene single-game overuse...it's amazing there haven't been more injuries or riots at games. The one game I was at this weekend, there were mutiple parents who were furious over a pitcher being left in WAYYYYY too long. Sad...while it's DEFINITELY not all, there are a great deal of baseball coaches that need to take a long hard look in the mirror and re-evaluate.
  6. Johnson is a really impressive young player. He'll be a star for the next two years for the Bluejackets. He struggled location wise yesterday. If not for a few lapses in control, it might have been a heck of a game.
  7. Final. Beechwood (15-1), behind the outstanding junior duo of starting pitcher Mitch Berger & outfielder Cameron Boyd, upended Nicholas County (13-7), 12-2, in five innings in today's KY All A Classic Sectional game played at Nicholas County. Boyd, who emerged as one of the top hoopers in the 9th Region this past basketball season, blasted three home runs off of Nicholas County pitching in five innings. He finished 3-3, scored four runs, and drove in three runs. His three homers give him nine now on the season. That number now leads the 9th Region and puts him in a 3-way tie for first place in KY with Gavin Faulker (Frederick Douglass) and Patrick Forbes (Bowling Green). In this last 8 games dating back to April 14, Boyd - the Tigers leadoff hitter - is hitting .692 (18-26), has scored 19 runs, drove in 10, hit six homers, and stole 6 bases in six attempts. Boyd is now hitting .491 atop Beechwood's high-powered offense. Mitch Berger (5-0) picked up his fifth win of the year, pitching five innings, scattering six hits, allowing two earned runs, and striking out seven. Berger joins St. Henry's Clay Duckworth as the only two pitchers in the 9th Region with five victories. Berger, who finished 2-4 with 4 RBI's, also launched a 3-run HR - his fourth of the season - in the fifth inning. Berger, who has won 7 of his last 8 starts, is now 12-0 in his varsity career for Beechwood. In 15 career starts, he's only allowed more than two earned runs twice - this season against Roosevelt (Wyandotte) MI and last season against CovCath in the 35th District Championship game. With the win, Beechwood advances to the State All A Classic Elite 8 this weekend at Eastern Kentucky University. They'll face 8th Region Walton-Verona (13-6) on Saturday afternoon at 3 PM NOTES: * Nicholas Co. sophomore southpaw Ryan Johnson showed flashes of brilliance, as he struck out 11 Beechwood batters in 4 2/3 innings of work. Johnson was plagued by control problems early in the contest, including four hit batters. * Beechwood now has 21 HR on the year in their first 16 games led by Boyd (9), Berger (4), and junior catcher Brice Estep (3). That number eclipses the Tigers' 2021 total of 16 and ties the 2019 total of 21. That 2019 team includes sluggers Logan Castleman (Morehead St.), John Odom (NKU), and Devin Johnson. * Nicholas County junior OF Tate Letcher finished 2-3, stroked a double in the fourth inning, and scored both of the Bluejackets runs. Senior SS Dylan Davenport finished 2-2 and drove in both of the Bluejackets' runs. * Saturday's contest vs. Walton-Verona will be the second matchup between the Tigers & Bearcats this season. Beechwood - behind freshman starting pitcher Chase Flaherty - defeated Walton-Verona, 4-3, yesterday at Beechwood in Doc Morris Classic action. * In his last three starts, Berger - an Eastern Kentucky University commit - is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. In 15 innings during those three starts, he's struck out 24, while only allowing 11 hits and five walks.
  8. Who are the front runners for this position?
  9. Final yesterday. RPI-ranked #124 Cooper (3-6) defeated 33rd District rival #79 Ryle (6-6), 9-5, yesterday in 9th Region action. The win marked the first time since 4/10/19 that the Jaguars have topped the Raiders. The two teams will face off again tomorrow at Cooper. Junior reliever Logan Dean (1-0) picked up the win for the Jags, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. CO-STARS OF THE GAME: Cooper juniors Chase Gartner (3-3-2-1, 2 2B, BB) and James Crowe (3-1-2-3, 2B, BB).
  10. Final. In a battle two 5th region teams looking to make waves this season, RPI ranked #69 Adair County (8-4) knocked off #62 Campbellsville (11-5), 15-3. The two teams will battle again tomorrow at Adair Co. at 5 pm.
  11. Final. Mild upset in the 13th Region as RPI #181 Harlan (7-7) knocked off #99 Bell County (7-4) in a 52nd District battle yesterday afternoon. STAR OF THE GAME: Harlan junior hurler Dawson Irvin - 7 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 12 K - WIN - now 2-2 1.81 47 K in 27 IP
  12. Final. Nice win by Johnson Central (5-10) in the 15th Region today over Prestonsburg (6-8).
  13. Any info on this one yet? Who picked up the win for the Colonels? Big win for Krumps and his squad.
  14. Beechwood Starters through first nine games: 37 IP, 22 H, 12 R, 9 ER, 18 W, 44 K - 8 WINS Junior RHP Sam Stacy - (3-0), 22/16 Ks/IP, leads 9th Region with a 0.44 ERA (min 10 IP) - wins over Scott, St. Henry, NCC. Junior RHP Mitchell Berger - (3-0) - 16/10 K's/IP, 4.90 ERA - wins over Roosevelt (Wyandotte MI), Cincinnati Oak Hills, and St. Henry Senior RHP Sam Cottengim - (1-0) - 0.88 ERA in two starts - win over Dixie Junior RHP Matthew Kappes (1-0) - 0.00 ERA in one start and two relief appearances - win over Ludlow
  15. Friend of mine who works In the building reports he was at school today 🤷‍♂️
  16. Not totally surprising what with the donnybrook in the stands early in the season at home too! Don’t forget that…generally not a great sign in terms of a positive team chemistry.
  17. One has to wonder if the powers that he will - as they did on the football side - do the wise thing and explore all options before making the easy quick one? Surprised by this departure. Anyone know why Coach Stainforth stepped down? Did a heck of a job during his tenure. Thought he’d be here for the long haul.
  18. Final. Beechwood moves to 5-0 on the year with tonight's big win over Dixie Heights (4-1). The Tigers were led by senior right-hander Sam Cottengim, who allowed only one hit and two walks in five innings of work earning his first varsity victory. Offensively, the Tigers blistered Dixie pitching registering 13 hits on the day. Junior RF and leadoff man Cameron Boyd blasted a grand-slam in the 3rd inning to put the game out of reach. Boyd, who now has two homers on the season, finished 2-3, with two runs scored and four RBI's. Junior catcher Brice Estep finished 3-3, with two doubles, a single and a sac fly. Beechwood is now averaging 12.4 runs per game, including 20 versus Roosevelt (Wyandotte), MI, 13 versus Dixie Heights, and 11 versus St. Henry.
  19. That would be a massive loss to the Colonels squad for sure! Very impressive last year in big moments.
