If I were to guess, Holmes was probably just ready for this season to be over.

I would have to disagree.  While the talent level has certainly dropped off over the last 6 years or so, those kids played as hard as they could this season and competed to the best of their ability and definitely didn't want to just pack it in.

I have only seen them once so I guess it wasn't a fair judgement. What has caused their drop off in the last few years?

The whole Holmes situation is sad to me.

That is the $100,000 question.  I know a lot have talent has taken off to other schools but it is sad to see such a rich tradition program fall to the depths to which it has.

It is unreal. Both boys and girls. They were the top of NKY for many many years, and now they struggled to get a win on their schedule, and were blown out by almost 60 points in the first round of districts.

I am not a big football guy, but how is that program? It seems like every other one is just going down the drain....

Couldn't agree more.  9th Region basketball was always better when the Bulldogs were competing for the title.  Very unfortunate.

Yeah, it isn't like any schools have been established within the last 5 years.

The football team is decent, they have a good coach.

It's the same reason teams like CCH and Cooper get better or "reload" on the flip side of this.  For instance, Holmes losing Ian Elmer to Cincinnati Taft was a tremendous hit to their program.  Last season, Holmes would have been almost a mirror image of this season if not for SR Quantez Calloway being a reclass kid.  The basketball Bulldogs have been on the decline for a few years.  Then, add the coaching change and it all adds up.  Conversely, Newport is reaping the benefit this year with an influx of talented players.  Some think it's positive, while some think it's negative.  But, it's the way of HS basketball moving forward.

It really is shocking to see that - unless I'm missing one - all of the Bulldogs' athletic team, except for football (which is, at best, mediocre) - have severely cratered in the last few years.
