  1. Really respect Cov Cath's out of conference schedule - they will travel to play premier teams.
  2. Boone looked unprepared at both ends of the court Friday against Conner. Mind you - Conner played well in a big bounce back win, but I never would have expected this given how Boone had played the night before. Can't imagine what it's like to coach 16-18 year olds...
  3. Big win for Cooper. They are a VERY good team. Without seeing the box it appears that Cooper was able to grind it out in a defensive struggle. Nice to be able to win when you score 50 or need to score 80. I really wish the CCH/Cooper game could move to NKU...
  4. Kunkel is a 25-30 point game waiting to happen. But - he also has a great feel for the team concept and doesn't force shots. If McNeil goes off again, Kunkel will make sure Sean gets the ball. If Cooper needs Kunkel to score 25 points - he can and will. It could be this game...
  5. He's just getting started with the triple doubles. If his teammates can't make shots he will just get 10 steals or block 10 shots.
  6. How many FTs did Hurst shoot? I know she is an outstanding 3 point shooter. If she can consistently create FT opportunities she will be a more consistent scorer - and I believe one of the top scorers in the area.
  7. And definitely providing commentary - to the point that you could check down the list of "shall not be announced" items listed above and say "yep", "yep", "yep", "uh...yep." With the quality of team, student sections, and acoustics, Cooper's gym rocks. In the words of Sheldon Leonard, they really don't need the announcer to give the joint "atmosphere." I will say that he provided commentary for both teams - Cooper benefiting more as a function of winning by 33 points.
  8. We can all hope... My observations: - Cooper was in attack mode from the opening tip. A very impressive display of competitive excellence and offensive/defensive skills - McNeil was really good - primarily getting to the lane and finishing. In total control of the game and the leader of the team - Kunkel seemed to be pressing. An off game but you can see the incredible talent. He does need to be careful about careless fouls and controlling his emotions. Cooper didn't need him last night but they certainly will down the road. - Was really impressed with Runion. At one time he was a premier basketball player in this class - he has focused on baseball and football (excels in both), but it really seems like he has also re-committed himself to hoops. Great athlete, strong defender, rebounds at both ends, and knocked down open shots. He gives them another, complementary option - he can be productive without dominating the ball. He needs to be able to score off dribble penetration for Cooper to be their best. - Love Hendrix's game. Kid does everything well - 100% effort every minute on the floor - and it's clear that winning is the most important aspect of the box score to him. He could be THE guy on other NKy teams - on Cooper he plays a critical complementary role. - Cooper is elite IMO - the game with Cov Cath will be worth 10x the price of adminssion - I am going to say that Walters is the x-factor for Cooper in their matchup with Cov Cath. Well documented that Cooper doesn't have a true "big" and may struggle containing Walter - but Cooper's Walters can step outside and knock down the 3. An asymmetrical match-up that - if Walters is on - could favor Cooper and force Cov Cath to go "small."
  9. Hebron LRS lurking... I kid, I kid.
  10. It's the 90s and 270s that literally leave you shaking your head.
  11. It's not an extra step if done correctly. You get 1.5 steps regardless. The beauty of the Euro step is the change of direction, which makes it both hard to defend and look like a travel. And I'm not insinuating anything. When Gnobli et all made this popular 10+ years ago there was an uproar in the America basketball community - until people looked at it closely and determined it was legal. Now LBJ and Durant are among the best at the Euro in the world.
  12. Why do we spend so much time creating problems where there are not problems? If it were the "American" step no one would blink an eye.
  13. Sadly I think this thread has focused on Allen and Ohmer as teammates and - wrongly and speculatively IMO - the detrimental impact to their relationship with teammates/overall team dynamics of shooting/scoring so much. What I KNOW: - Both very talented - Both work as hard/harder than their teammates to improve - Both lead on/off the court - Both are a treat to watch play and compete I will leave the strategies and teach chemistry management to their very qualified/competent coaches.
  14. This is true. What is also is they have coaches who are lucky to have the talents of Ohmer and Allen. Hats off to the coaches for letting these kids play.
  15. I'm sure you meant "boards." From everything I've heard he's a really nice kid.
  16. We will all be seeing a lot of Allen - could be a McDonald's AA and will play D-I somewhere. I'm sticking with my prediction that he plays in the NBA some day.
  17. Cooper and CCH should play every week and donate the gate to various charities. Each game would sell out and combined they would raise hundreds of thousands for good causes. Oh - and I would get to watch two GREAT teams play every week. Which is nice...
  18. Beechwood peaking at the perfect time and excelling in all 3 phases. Beechwood 31 Hazard 14
  19. Lafayette may spend a lot of time this week working on a variety of onside kick strategies and formations.
  20. La Salle is the best team in Ohio. To think at the end of the regular season they were ranked behind Troy AND Turpin in their own region is laughable. Cleveland St. Ignatius vs St. X for the DI championship. Ignatius won the regular season match-up - this will be Kyle's last game as coach if they win. Could be his last game, anyway. Toledo Central Catholic vs. DeSales for the DIII championship will be a good one. TCC may be the 2nd best team in Ohio after LaSalle.
  21. It sounds like it DID get real ugly. What a shame - feel bad for the child and the whole team. I hope the school takes some action to hold the parent accountable - that behavior should not be tolerated.
  22. Agreed - although I have to say the Hebron Little Red Schoolhouse pre-school team (co-ed) is undefeated. They took down Lakeside Presbyterian 8-5 on Thursday. Close game - 2-2 at half, but LRS blew it open with a 3-0 run to start the second half. In case anyone was wondering - juice and cookies were served at half. Game played after nap time - which might explain slow start.
  23. Close at the half - Scott wins by 14-20 points. Conner has not excelled at making halftime adjustments, and that shortcoming, along with SC's depth, gets them again.
