Ruby definitely played well. There was a nice pregame ceremony congratulating her on the Campbell county scoring record. The second goal came on an indirect kick on the edge of the box after the HC goalie was called for picking up a pass. On the play in question there were probably at least half a dozen players in the box with CC trying to put it in and HC trying to clear. I just saw the ball ricochet off a couple of players and the goalie dive for it. Both teams ran down the field like a standard play with the goalie set up to punt and then the center ref blew the whistle and called the goalie for picking up a pass. A parent said CC kicked it off a HC defender into the goalie. A player confirmed that version. It happens, just tough to have such a good game decided that way.

Campbell county defeats Holy Cross 2-1 on a controversial penalty called mid second half. It was a nice competitive game by both teams.

Yes all unvaccinated people including those who cannot be vaccinated ie: everyone under 12. Not to mention by keeping the virus alive and well there will be more vaccine breakthrough cases and while these people have a very low likelihood of being hospitalized they can pass the virus on. Rinse repeat.

We have had it come up in the past. We rely on middle schoolers to be able to have a JV team. I remember being told by a parent on the opposite team that her daughter (a junior playing JV) had to sit out because the options were sit the juniors or have a forfeit win and no one get to play. The rule is just to protect the younger kids but one thing we actually discussed last night was that it should be age vs grade. Why is is safer for a 12 year old at cov latin to play than a 14 year old 8th grader?

Holy Cross loses a close one today to Brossart 2-1 making them 0-2 for the week after a loss to NDA and Ludlow cancellation for Covid. Next week is district rival Beechwood in what should be a hotly contested game.

The HC kicker will be playing on the All A regional soccer finals at 1230 so it works out well.

Holy Cross falls to NDA 6-0. The Indians fought hard and didn’t allow any goals in the second half, but were outmanned by the deeper, stronger Pandas. Kudos to several HC players who had to play 70+ minutes in the brutal heat due to injuries limiting the roster. Next up for the Indians Ludlow in Wed and Brossart Saturday.

The NDA Ryle game last night was definitely a battle. I had to leave after the first half, but it was fun to watch. The Ryle goalie did a great job and has an amazing boot. Both schools had enthusiastic students sections cheering. It was so nice to see after last year.

Villa got a quick score with a ball that shot through the back of the Indian defense and they ran it down and scored 2 minutes into the game. The rest of the game Villa packed in the defense putting four across the back line with another 2 maybe three sitting back on defense. The Indians moved the ball well and in my opinion had a much better technical game, but were a bit tentative to take the longer shots and couldn't put the ball in the back of the net with closer shots with so many defenders packed in. Villa's team has a core of seniors that Coach Rice has had since they were little and then all went to Villa together where they have played together since 7th grade. They played well as a team. Holy Cross has a nice set of girls with 5-6 new varsity starters this year and only one senior on the team They started 1 senior, 6 juniors, 3 sophomores and 1 freshman with several younger girls subbing. They should get better as the season progresses.

Holy Cross took care of business beating district rival Holmes 10-0 on Monday. They were able to get a lot of younger players some varsity time. They followed that with a 3-0 victory over Scott Wed. Tonight's game against Calvary was cancelled for weather. Next up Villa on Monday in the All A regional semi finals.

I would say only if they took away the one for 2020 since it is a senior only award. What was the final decision on that?

If kids fail a year or perhaps they feel they are behind whatever they have always been able to have a redo. Zeke Pike did it. A current local varsity baseball player repeated 7th or 8th grade. Some schools are reluctant to "fail" kids for a variety of reasons, but we all know people who were "held back". The difference, I would assume, there is an extra year of athletic eligibility and it being easier for the parents to do.

Actually it makes perfect academic sense. Students are given a "do over year" because they feel that this year they were not able to learn what they needed to learn in the classes they took. The need to "do over". If they are ready to take advantage of advanced courses they are not in need of a do over they are ready to move on. If I remember right at least one fo the districts said they had to do over the core curriculum not the elective classes. They elective classes is where they can explore interests.

At Meinken it is $5/adult no limit. Public park so impossible to refuse people is my understanding.

I would assume the CCH/St Henry move is due to fans. I heard NDA is doing the same. I don't think the Diocese has lifted the only two fans per participant restrictions so if a Diocesan school hosts the fans list is really small and basically no students. This could have changed but I haven't heard that it has. I would think having a student section would offset the "home court" but I who knows.

I am glad the kids get something, but the way the semi states are divided up definitely puts some at a disadvantage. Two of the semi states will be loaded with good kids who would have otherwise made it getting shut out. The other may not even be able to fill all events.

Does anyone know who has advanced in the JV tournament? It looks like the final four is next weekend. Who is still alive?

The problem is there wasn't many options and moving to late April would devastate spring sports again. Evan late March is pushing it back two weeks. The boys championship is usually March 15-18ish. Moving it to mid April would take a month from spring sports assuming everything was adjusted the same amount of time. Based on last year's schedule it would cost baseball about 15 of their 30 games after losing an entire season.

As a parent of a spring sport athlete, I appreciate them trying to not have them miss two seasons. Those kids missed an entire season, not playoffs, or late start or abbreviated season. None at all. Pushing it into July is a complete no go. 1) for baseball and softball that is club season 2) as I found out with my senior last year by the time June and July rolled through no one cared anymore about proms and graduations. I can't imagine graduating seniors would care about games in June unless it was the state championship. I also have a basketball player who is super excited to play and I understand the need for cash influx, but you can't sacrifice the spring kids again. Heck even the basketball kids probably don't want to play in spring because that cuts into AAU.

There are 90 inpatients in Ft Thomas. Not sure how many ICU. That number is more than the spring although generally the patients aren't as sick since we have some treatments now. For reference there were 30 something 3 weeks ago. I am wondering if part of the astronomical increase is the post Halloween hangover.

One problem is if the teams keep practicing it pretty much defeats the purpose of delaying. Not saying it is practical as afar as being game ready but if they didn’t practice this week and team that had a player become covid positive would have already started their quarantine . Covid numbers will not improve in the next couple of weeks.

It was nice to see the Indians with most if not all of their players healthy last night. They have not been at full strength since game one.

1:37 left Newport 21 HC 20. HC just turned over on downs. Didn't let the kicker try a 41 yarder for the win. He has hit them in practice.

Didn't he get a person foul on his own runback? Of course it didn't call back the score but agree there is a general lack of discipline that keeps coming back to haunt the team.
