Final from Louisville. Several subs were able to get minutes. Every noninjured player on the bench saw some playing time. Many of the subs also played JV who won bringing the JV record to 6-1 with their sole loss being to NDA in what I was told was NDA’s closest JV game this season.

Pushing a kid to the ground after a whistle and throwing an elbow after the whistle ( I heard this may not have been an elbow may have grabbed the arm and twisted it back. I thought it looked like an elbow but it was hard to see from the video feed.) were the exact plays although I imagine there may have been mouth involved also. The second one came with cch up 40-50 in the third quarter. No clue why he would have even been in the game at that point. The game was obviously well in hand for the colonels.

Final in the district seeding game. Notre Dame was leading by 6 at the half but then pulled away with a 16-3 third quarter. The Indians fought back in the fourth quarter but just didn’t have enough left in the tank. The Pandas played a deep bench with at least 10 girls if not 12 getting playing time. The Indians still hampered with injuries had their starters play most of the game. Macie Feldman led the Pandas with 21 and Julia Hunt led the Indians with 18.

Nice write up. I look forward to reading the discussions each week. Your observations of Marissa Green are spot on. She has gotten so much better the past year. At this rate she is going to be scary good over the next four years. As for how HC looked so bad vs Dixie and so good against Ryle, hard call. The Indians had a much better shooting percentage against Dixie, but Dixie also shot 58% from beyond the arc which is much better than their season avg of 38%. HC just struggled on defense. Against Ryle they shot and abysmal 17% from three point range and only played 6 girls. They were just laser focused on defense which kept the scoring lower and closer. It will be interesting to see which HC team shows up for NDA Wednesday and what the plan is. I am not sure when their injured players will be back but it will sure help in the scoring column.

Final from the Toyota Classic Jacob Meyer led the Indians with 44. Javier Ward added 27 and was lights out from the 3. Meyer drove at will in the first half and set the tournament record for total points scored with 139 points in 3 games. Lafayette's center was 3/4 from three point range and had a nice game.

The Lady Raiders came out to a strong start with 8 unanswered points. The Indians struggled from the 3 and Ryle led at the end of the first quarter 18-9. The second half was played pretty even with a halftime score of 26-18. Holy Cross put a chaser on Holtman and held her scoreless the second quarter and she had to be well below her average for the game. Ryle pulled away to up to a 17 point lead during the fourth quarter and the Indians fought back to get it down to as low as nine but couldn’t get and closer. The girls left it all on the court with both teams playing short benches. It was a fun night of basketball especially this early in the season with the JV game going down to the wire with a Indian 39-36 win.

Final from the Toyota Classic at Great Crossing. Jacob Meyer lead the Indians with a bunch. The Indians led most of the game and lost on a last second shot. Foul trouble hurt the Indians with big Sam Gibson having to sit a good chunk of the first half and third quarter. HC plays the loser of LCA and Great Crossing tomorrow and FD plays the winner.

McCoy and Bottom were out. Only one of them would have started. The other would most likely would have been first off the bench.

Agreed. I haven’t seen the boys team play in quite awhile with Covid etc, but from what I observed last night they do have some other players that they need to figure out a way to utilize. Gibson didn’t seem to play a big role in the offense, but of course Hamilton had their own 7 footer. They have Pulsford and Arlinghaus who are nice three point shooters who can contribute. They just need to figure out a way to use all their weapons. That being said Hamilton was a big, strong, fast, deep team so overall a nice start for the Indians.

Final from Covington. There was some high flyers and a battle of the big men today in a very athletic game. Hamilton came out to a big lead and the Indians came back to tie it at the half and pull away for the win.

MIssing two players definitely hurt the Indians. North Laurel was able to focus on Robinson when she was nailing the threes instead of having to worrying about three players capable of hitting 5+ 3s per game. Their 6-4 center helped neutralize Hunt although Hunt ended up with at least a dozen points several blocks and a healthy amount of rebounds. Foul trouble also contributed to the loss with Whimzie getting her third foul in the first quarter forcing freshman Lehmkuhl and Nelson, who are varsity newcomers, to step up and eat a fair amount of minutes. The next couple of weeks will be interesting.

Final from the Finn. Hanna Robinson was raining 3’s and the Indians were able to get some of their younger players playing time filling in for injuries.

Agreed East is weaker than west but East >>> AAC. I think it would be very unlikely that UC goes undefeated with Georgia's schedule. I have seen several SOS but ESPN has Georgia 56 Cincinnati 96.

Of course they would. Not even close. Georgia has a much higher strength of schedule and while it is obviously tough to go undefeated in any division the AAC is a joke compared to the gauntlet Georgia ran. The only thing UC has going for them is a bigger win in Notre Dame.

Right? The QB wouldn’t let go of the defender’s jersey. Defender pushes off QB out of bounds. Offensive player shoves defense. All hell breaks loose. Who was the penalty even called on. It should have been offsetting. Kentucky got screwed on that one.

I only really saw the HC/Williamstown game. Williamstown is young and the Indians were just too much for them. The Indians won easily. Williamstown seemed to get a fair amount of kids playing time. Holy Cross suited up 8 and they all got significant playing time. There were two out with injuries and a couple out for soccer limiting the roster. I heard Conner and Scott both won handily.

Smithers was lights our from the three. Interestingly the first half was a two point game I believe. The second half was when Walton pulled away. HC was missing four seniors who were on the class trip and Javier Ward. I don't think any of the seniors are starters but they are second team and Ward is a starter. It would have been interesting to see both teams at full strength. I would assume Walton may have been missing some footballs players?

I would go with they didn't look at it. There is an obvious mistake with the numbers for Covington Holy Cross. The 2017-2018 number of boys is the same as total enrollment. Unfortunately that bumps them up to 2A instead of being in 1A. @nkypete is spot on. As a parent of a senior on the team I would like to add another perspective. The last four years have been rough. The back story is HC graduated 25 kids off a 40 kid roster five years ago when they made the state semi finals. They have struggled to rebuild. My son had never been on a losing team before. This year honestly was a disappointment. At the beginning of the year we though we would have been competitive in a few more of our games. They came back and beat Newport to avoid the 4 seed and Beechwood opening round and have a chance at the 2 seed and hosting a playoff game. They followed that up with a horrible loss to Lloyd making the Ludlow game another must win to avoid Beechwood in the three way tie RPI tie breaker. They came from behind and did that. They follwed that up with a strong performance against Lloyd to make the second round. The playoff game is the only high school playoff game my son has ever won. Was it worth it to get beat by Beechwood this week? Absolutely. He had a week of feeling proud and accomplished. This past week he knew it was a long shot but said "mom we are a covid outbreak away from having a chance to make a run at state". He tried to stay upbeat. Did he cry after the game? sure but he didn't quit and got his 100th tackle on the season so he at least had that.
