  1. I would have agreed on the stringer topic in past years, but this year it seemed that the tough BW football mentality had finally broke through to him and he was playing some of his toughest, best football before receiving what haunts hs football players nightmares in a knee injury. He would've have made though a much greater difference more than anything as a safety. After he was hurt, there was a noticeable lack of size in the defensive secondary, and without size against daric pugh? good luck. I think in the end you need a good offensive line or that RB is nothing though, it was a necessity with small defensive backs for the DL to make plays, and they were getting blocked better than almost any other game of the season and once pugh could escape the 5 yard box, no good technique from small db's could stop pugh from pointing the crest of his helmet toward the inzone, eyes down and charging forward like a bull in mexico city.
  2. Grant it, a lot of the big game "panics" were often related to just having to deal with a good defense making good plays, it just seemed especially that in that game, IMO the offensive line did one of their best jobs of the year maintaining the pocket protection, but the QB was attempting to scramble out of the safe zone of the pocket many a time before he had given the WR's ample time to make their cuts, thus to him it appeared they were always covered, and as the game continued in that manner, the thought of them always being covered and necessity to scramble grew until at the end of the game the pressure of a close game lifted and the QB began bending the defense to his will, resulting in a TD in less than 3 minutes. just my opinion. but this kid is still amazing for what he has accomplished. just tough that we are human beings and aren't capable of performing our best every day.
  3. the first 2 of those 7 Mayfield was a significantly better team, the 3rd was one play/call away from a bw win, and the other 4 the offense has been steered by a qb who panics when one little thing doesn't go "according to plan". BW just hasn't been the best team in 1A in those matchups, because the opponent they were playing was. (except for Frankfort that one year. idk how that happened). The best team has been winning, that team just has not been Beechwood.
  4. Well done Kash! Go show UK what 1A Kentucky football is all about!
  5. only issue I see is a typo for left defensive tackle for beechwood: #51 as actually Braden Hermes
  6. I'm saying that many thought he was cleared, and maybe even Kash, the tough young man that he is, thought he could play, but in reality his knee was not fit for football, and if he did play it would have been bad.
  7. are we talkin booby miles from Friday night lights "cleared to play"?
  8. A good reminder of the tradition they are fighting for. That the jersey they wear and that tiger paw on their helmet stands for more than just themselves, but for an entire program, stretching over years of success, as well as a whole community of supporters. All the more reason to be 1st class all the way, no matter the outcome.
  9. you can usually google KHSAA state championship gridiron whatever and they video broadcast all the state championship games. may be somewhat potato quality but video of the games nonetheless
  10. It's not what's missing, more what they have. And what they have is what I consider to be one of the best coaching staffs in the state and a tradition of players willing to listen. They are especially good at thinking on their toes. How many games have you seen Mayfield go the first half neck and neck/tied or down big against a tough opponent and come back second half firing out and adjusted to win the game? They have a great coaching staff that teaches the players a mentality of working together to win games, and when you have players operating as one well oiled machine, you can accomplish great things against sometimes much more talented opponents.
  11. for those that want a lighter meal, I have been informed by a local that Griff's deli is like a McCallister's on steroids (and its also local which is always better)
  12. but I thought Desales was the #1 defensive team in 2A... :sssh:
  13. did someone say special teams deciding a 1A state championship?
  14. I'll be there to watch a historical matchup on Thursday night
  15. Don't let time fade the memories, "property" is probably not the best word to use, it insinuates domination, which has happened perhaps in 2 of the matchups over time. Every game was a fist fight until 4th qtr, sometimes until the very last seconds, Mayfield just always found a way to be the one that came out on top. but I do think MF should have this matchup in the bag for this year.
  16. You'd be surprised what practicing against the starters can do for a group of hard working juniors. Just because they couldn't start over the seniors doesn't mean they're not good, their time just hasn't come yet.
  17. Excuse me sir, in the private school sector they call those "academic" scholarships, they just happen to pay for all of the best football and basketball players' tutition:)
  18. Its hard to measure having scored the most points in the state as an attest to how good Pikeville is vs. how bad their schedule was. all in all thought it's probably a bit of both. But what that does speak is Pikeville doesn't play with their food. they get the job done when expected.
  19. I'd say BW and NCC aren't that similar this year. If I had to put a number on it Id say they are at least 17 points different.
  20. I think at this point Pikeville is aware of what their QB can do, but if they can hand it to pugh and win by 19 against Paintsville, why not? why show more to your next opponent than necessary? just look at BW, even when they were struggling against LHC, they knew they could win with their gameplan, no need to show off or intimidate your next opponent by running up the score with plays you would rather keep hidden. I think both teams will be tested to present those plays in this game. execution will be everything for both of these teams.
  21. But they did beat Danville, which is probably not as difficult but still quite impressive
  22. Well done mayfield. Keep showing 2A that competition in 1A is no joke. Go get the breds. I'm cheering for ya
