  1. I'd rather say 1A football is back. The chain of "will it be Mayfield or BW" is over. Mayfield moved up and BW is seeing some VERY strong competition from the east as well as teams like russleville in the west. Imo BW never left, others have just caught up. 1A is about to be in a spot for the next couple years where it will be very hard to make those top 10 predictions. Very good teams from all over KY.
  2. That was about as entertaining as it gets for a state championship game. Evenly matched, great defense, big plays to spice up the drives, not many penalties. The BW defense and BW versatile offense were the difference in that game. BW gave up a rush heavy TD in the first qtr and then did not give up a 1st down the rest of the half. The contrast in the passing game was the difference in this one. BW could mix it up with run and pass with success in both, but a lot of the time Hazard tried to pass it ended up in a pick or tight coverage. I hope to see these two play again next year, both great programs who have respect for each other and play all out. Just another day I realize how much I love watching high school football.
  3. For sure agree on the refs. Kept the game in check allowing clean football hits and a fun game while calling what needed to be called. Cudoos to the players as well for playing such fundamentally sound football. I think they did try the pass game a little in the beginning and saw the tight coverage on johnson and others and decided to back off and went with what worked, and it did work, they had a solid TD drive to start off the scoring from purely running the ball. When you know you are beat in speed (although it was much closer than thought) you go to straight forward power running, make them come to your blockers. deep Passing is a bad idea against fast db unless you are on the money and it seemed like hazard didnt want to do any short passes.
  4. The biggest mistake BW can make is overlooking johnson to focus on smith. That dude is tall and has great hands. could be an issue for undersized DBs, especially if its any type of jump ball pass. he wins a jump ball and maybe even gets away from the first tackle.
  5. dude you're just messing around. This is a forum for people who are interested about matchups and what people that have seen them play think about it. No need for nonsense. just sit back and read posts if this is all you have to offer.
  6. very true. Also Holy Cross Covington this year was quite the team. I definitely believe BW has played a harder schedule and proven themselves through it. That win against Holy Cross has bigger weight than any hazard has to offer.
  7. thats why I tried to give an idea of the competition with focus on the teams .500 or better
  8. Quick stat breakdown Hazard: Opponents total record (84-81) % teams .500 or over: 8/14 -> 57% Record against the 57%: (6-2) Most successful opponent from reg season: Pikeville (regional finalist) pts allowed: 282 (20.1 pts per game) (66 of those pts from 2 games) ->most given in a game: 33 pts scored: 560 (40.0 pts per game) ->most scored in a game: 56 Beechwood: Opponents total record (89-87) % teams .500 or over: 8/14 -> 57% Record against the 57%: (7-1) Most successful opponent from reg season: Holy Cross, cov. (semi-state finalist) pts allowed: 166 (11.9 pts per game) (77 of those pts from 2 games) ->most given in a game: 44 pts scored: 582 (41.6 pts per game) ->most scored in a game: 62 As you can see, the stats are insanely close. I think we have ourselves a classic in the making. Only stand-out difference is on average BW gives up 8.2 or roughly a TD less per game than hazard. And in a game where one score could be the difference, that's pretty huge. Good luck to both teams and I look forward to the close game the stats predict.
  9. we're not talking speed. we're talking SPEED. these beechwood kids are stupid fast everywhere this year. Hazard may have speed but they don't have that kind of speed. But i do think the size difference levels the playing field. should be a good matchup
  10. The fun is now that the fan bases can root for each other to show that those two power house programs, that had been duking it out for years in 1A, are now putting on a show in both small school classes. Go cardinals all the way! put another one on that scoreboard!
  11. I wouldn't say Stringer injury derailed the championship run. It was a huge loss, like any loss of an important starter, but outside of the holy cross game, BW seemed to keep playing their type of ball last year, pikeville just turned out to be very impressive. But yes injuries are huge to any team, hopefully all are healthy for all teams so we all get our money's worth at games
  12. really. wow. good for SK. everything is a lot easier with a seasoned offensive line. Sounds like SK is set up to be pretty good next year
  13. in front of every great running back is a great offensive line. Those guys up front definitely allowed him to make some incredible cuts behinds their blocks and then he had enough speed that no one can catch him. good highlights.
  14. wow. that kid has got some power. definitely capable of going D1. probably a big school. I hope he's not afraid to walk-on somewhere and go for the big time. sometimes that's what it takes as a kicker. He could earn a scholarship over time.
  15. I was just asking since you said powell missed 7 games in his career but I was talking about stringer missing 3.5 games this year. I didn't know if you meant powell missed 7 games this year
  16. 1.Pikeville 2.Beechwood 3.Paintsville*with Kash 4.Russleville 5.Raceland 6.Holy Cross 7.Paris 8.Bethlehem 9.Hazard 10.Fairview
  17. oh are those career stats? I was thinking it was this season
  18. ... I know! isn't it crazy that it is one of BW's weakest schedules in a long time, yet in comparison to most other 1A schools it was still one of the toughest?
  19. wow. It must've been a packed house for 6A. It seemed pretty impressively packed even with 1A.
  20. worth the price and then some. nothing compares to a great high school football game. college, nfl, you name it. You cant beat watching a group of young kids willing to give up their time to strive for one goal as a team, especially when for most of them, the end of the season means the end of a part of their life.
  21. crazy to think what stringer's stats would've looked like with the 3 and a half more games he could have played if not injured.
  22. looks like I got something new to play around with out on the farm. thanks!
  23. I would love to see him try to be a D1 linebacker or fullback at the next level. I believe he can do it with his mental toughness, strength, and speed.
  24. because they were considered the best through great talent and a tough schedule that they continued to be successful at. Pretty simple to understand really if you apply any amount of intelligence.
  25. I would agree. Every time there is a large graduation of starters everyone assumes rebuild, but never forget those kids that got the starters and themselves better everyday by facing against them in practice. And with Beechwood's coaching staff? the tigers always return, and never doubt the youngsters, sometimes it just takes that chance to start to really see them grow into a great team.
