Mayfield has been dominating Beechwood, if Mayfield and Beechwood played this year there is no reason to believe the outcome would be any different. With Beechwood pretty much manhandling Newport Central Catholic late this season the Cardinal Translation has to be Mayfield is much much better than Newport Central Catholic and the Cards are licking their chops in preparation to wipe the Thoroughbreds out, right?

The Bred faithful is a smart group, they know they are a big underdog this week.

Unless they blow a head gasket on their way to BG. I just don't see NCC beating them. If NCC goes up they better stay on them or it's blow out city. Things happen to work out for NCC this year, so who knows?

Cards have to be a two touchdown favorite.

Would be nice for them to become the new BW, property of the Mayfield Cardinals. We will have to revisit that in a few years to see if that works out for us like it did with BW. The Cards already own a 2-1 lead with the Breds. Back years ago when MF and BW began to play every year some of the NCC fans would talk a lot of smack, you don't hear much of that these days. DeSales kind of took over that spot this year and some of them were really fun to mix it up with. So far the Breds fans on here seem a lot more cautious than the almighty ones from some past years.

 

If you watch the films of the Breds, including recent games like Danville and Beechwood, it is very encouraging. If the Cards do play to their potential they will win this game but sometimes the game takes crazy turns, just ask the ADs who beat the brakes off them and still lost. I fully expect a Cards win!

With both playing Belfry, I would compare NewCath to Corbin in lots of ways.

 

NewCath has the home run ability Corbin didn't have with Smith

 

Corbin has a little better QB play with Sizemore.

 

Corbin is deeper.

 

NewCath's Lawrence and Sutkamp were a little better than anyone Corbin had.

 

Mayfield tussled with Corbin for 3 Quarters before putting them away missing Bright... NewCath will compete, but not sure they have enough weapons or overall team speed to stay within 2 TD's

This NewCath team is a fickle bunch, one week they look really good and the next week they would lay an egg, so to speak. However once the playoffs started they have remained focused.

 

Yes, Mayfield on paper looks like they will dismantle the Breds, but many thought Danville was a couple of scores better last week. Nobody thought Williamsburg was in the same neighborhood as Mayfield last year in the Title game, and the Cards survived a HUGE scare......so anything can happen in games of this magnitude.

 

I can remember in 2010 many said Owensboro Catholic was going to run roughshot over the Breds with their 44 pts. a game average........and we know what happened their. You can look at what both teams did against their opponents and make assumptions, however in a game with this much on the line.....who knows?????

 

Hope it is a GREAT game and is injury free.

Now, with that said...this is 2A high school football, ANYTHING can happen and a twisted ankle or a pulled hammy to the star player can clear all bets...panic sets in because you give up a couple of quick scores and things go haywire...almost anything can happen to change the course of a game that "should" go one way or the other so it never a given.
