2 called back by penalty, missed chip shot FG, fumble in red zone. Danville missed opportunities and should have won had they not imploded with misq's. If that same NCC team shows up on Sunday that played Danville, and I think that they will, MF should win

This comes down to NewCath's willingness to open it up and Hentschen's willingness to let it rip. Smith is the one offensive weapon that NewCath has that will match up favorably with Mayfield ' s speed. Harris is quick, but isn't hitting home runs against the Cards. Both will need to have Mayfield respect the pass enough to not walk up to 9 guys into the box. NewCath's TE is way too under utilized. He has to peoccupy safeties and get targets.

If NCC's QB is struggling to complete passes especially downfield, Smith wont have much success. The underneath and short routes haven't been a problem for the MF d this year. It's the downfield throws that have done the damage. I asked the question in the game thread and not really got an answer yet. Does the big QB have the ability to hurt a team running the ball?

He is sneaky athletic. He is not going to take it to the house, but he can extend plays, get out of the pocket, and pick up crucial first downs. He is not Mike Vick running it, but he is not Dan Marino either.

158 miles for Mayfield versus 220 for NCC so not really equal.

Mayfield has every right to be pumped no matter who they are going to be playing. Mayfield would be the favorite over every 2A team in the state and only have 1 more game to avoid an upset.

With the last 2 games bringing huge, well warrented hype (see the the length of the DeSales and OC threads), I could conceive a small emotional let down in this game - at least for a quarter or two. No worries though, Mayfield is built for the comeback if they are put in that position. However, if Mayfield is hitting early and grabs a couple quick touchdowns, this one is over... done... finished. Unless the Cards have a few of their best athletes beat up, which they don't, I can't see a scenario where they lose here.

That was one of NewCath's best ever teams. Diehl, Cannafax, Smith, Kiernan. That was an awesome group with a great passing game. This team is not as good. Defensively they are not terribly far off, but the offense has been a work in progress all year

He is able to extend plays as was stated. He is big and not easy to bring down. He was able to make some plays vs BW that way. He should not be under estimated

Mayfield has been dominating Beechwood, if Mayfield and Beechwood played this year there is no reason to believe the outcome would be any different. With Beechwood pretty much manhandling Newport Central Catholic late this season the Cardinal Translation has to be Mayfield is much much better than Newport Central Catholic and the Cards are licking their chops in preparation to wipe the Thoroughbreds out, right?
