  1. Yep, we've had many a conversation about this topic and I disagree 100%!! Its a Ky. Rule that is slowly losing its grip on MS players moving up and eventually Ky will get with the times and others states and be 4 years only. These records will be put aside with an * by it.
  2. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in the state of KY. To allow not only MS player to play Varsity (yeah right, preserving the interest of schools that don't have the numbers, whatever!), but this girl has played since the 5th grade? Seriously wrong with the system and its "HS Records" being broken by kids who are no even in HS. It's a shame, but hey it the rules right? Got to go by the rules, just like the All "A" tournament and crowing them state champions. I call total oscar mayer bologna!
  3. If you haven't already figured it out yet, Bluegrass is the premier "man's soap opera" sport page. As long as we have social media, people love drama and will talk, and talk, and talk, and talk. But also makes for a great prayer chain, so prayers to Hunter on a quick recovery!!!
  4. Here we go again, @Lawnboy13 thinking it's about himself and the all "A"? It was far from what I was talking about, but whatever. Good luck to everyone and their off-season workouts, see ya in the spring.
  5. I should hope to think that the top 20 is based on the best overall "teams" as they play as a "team" and not individual players who are great at their individual positions, yet do not balance the overall "team". Many of "ball hogs" out there, and yes it applies to softball too! Time will tell with "predictions", hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, hope everyone is working hard and brings their 'A' games.
  6. Good Luck in the GLIAC, its a great conference, very competitive!
  7. Heard Graybill is considered one if the top 10 hitters in the nation, per a hitting coach for major D-1 Schools.
  8. Some just want to see the world burn, no rhyme or reason, just because they are jerks. It can be anyone, no stereotypes in stupidity, because affluent kids do just as crappy stuff as the ones who struggle and live a hard life. To them, it made sense to do it, and that is what is the true crime, no common sense.
  9. Should we slam the coach, or the "politics" that put her in those situations? As you say, it was more than just the coach; politics, parents, etc. More than just the coach to blame if your throwing stones. I don't disagree that plenty of talent was overlooked, and though the process, some players left, quit, and just didn't get play. It is what it is, next up will have to erase all of the drama, and take charge, and hopefully not be influenced by the "politics" involved, because they have not left.
  10. Right but on average softball fields fence depth is 210 max corners and it being a short field-unlike a baseball field- tends to quicken the game tremendously. On a regulation enclosed field- those hits are double! Unless there is some error somewhere.
  11. Sorry I had to missed this one, heard it was a doozie. Congrats Bluebirds on the shut out!
  12. Shout out to all the Highlands HS throwers for making it to the KY 2AA State championships, all who entered in Regions qualified to state. Mikayla Reichert, Shot and Discus, Larken Laur, Discus, MC Redden Shot, Even Richardson, Shot and Discus, Drew Bravard Discus, Bo Hebel, Shot. Good luck tomorrow!! Go Birds, peak at meet!!
  13. I beg to differ, Shelby is in the top 10% of players for speed. I had the pleasure of being at an off-season workout last year at Rossford park. Pretty sure she had some of the top numbers rounding the bases. And when allowed, she has stolen every base that she has attempted this year. Now to answer that inside the park home run....no need, when all are over the fence by a mile.....but that triple last night got her held up at 3rd, no one would have been waved on to go to home. Which brings me to my last argument, even in baseball, most, and I mean most, in the park HRs are off some kind of error by the outfield or infield, bobble the ball, over the head and had to chase, catcher missed tag, or out of position and had to shift because the ball was thrown bad to them. Rare is it to see an actual outfielder catch the ball on one hop, relay to second, and second base miss the tag at home. Unless you have Mr. Bolt from Jamaica run the bases, that runner would have to have a keen mindset to run all out, ignore any of the coaches calls, and run as hard as they could. BTW, the Brossert tournament early in the spring, had the fences at 235. The grounds keeper told me they had to move them to KHSAA Max standards, per the host school. Most, and I mean most, colleges don't play 235, 220 if that. But hey, Shelby hit 3 right at the fence, so call it for what it is, legal is legal right? It was commented on BGP that she has never hit off of the Brossert pitcher in all 4 years she played her.....but she did, months later. HR, grand slam, out of the park. Best of luck to all the team tonight!! Regions will be exciting to watch.
  14. Congrats to the lady bluebirds for winning back to back region 2AA championship on Friday at Scott HS. Great facility, great hosts. Tons of PR performances. Check out KYTrackXC.com | Kentucky High School Running News and Videos | Cross Country and Track & Field for all the results and updates from each region, and who is going to the state A, AA, AAA championships. Good luck to all the Northern Ky competitors and their teams. HHS girls have a real shot at winning it all. :ylsuper: Good Luck lady Birds this Friday evening!!!
  15. Her off season workouts must be paying off, 350 squat max and 145 bench for reps of 5, not bad.....Oh and BTW, Thanks to Milts dad for looking at Shelby and saying "This is going to be a HR Shelby, I know it, I can feel it". Nice call sir, nice call. Great overall team effort, Birds are looking a lot crisper than early on, outfield is coming together nicely. Conner today, Notre Dame Thursday, Ryle Friday. Big week!!
  16. Where's the school admiration/official for softball games to handle issues like this? It's mandatory that someone attend, is it not? Oh I'm sorry...this is not football or basketball.
  17. Mikayla Reichert and Larken Laur from Highlands won the relay Shot and Discus. They broke the Discus record previously held by Reichert and Ryle teammate as a freshman. Old record 193 combined, new 203'7". Mikayla individual throw was 117'11", second farthest throw currently in the state in all 3 divisions. Great job girls.
  18. We didn't have wrestling at my HS, but I played football, hockey, basketball, volleyball (yes, in Canada we did have Varsity, lol) soccer. But of course, track was #1 for me. Team sports are great, but there's a lot to say, when that shot, discus, hammer, javelin lands and you have the farthest throw, the congrats and accolades that came with being #1 was reward in itself for the hard work in the weight room and in the circle, hours on hours, days in days out. no one else could ever take that away from you. You can play 100% in a team sport, give your all, but still lose. This was my way to say, I'm king of the hill, knock me off if you can. That's in itself is a rush. A rush I know track and field athletes get to feel every time they go to a meet. I'm sure Brandon felt that way when it hit 55!! Congrats Brandon, great job.
  19. Lol, the thing about field eventers (throwers) we walk a different walk, almost barbaric, Viking lor. Our events once were used for the battle field. It's a pride and honor thing to see who throws farther, grunt the loudest. lol. Neanderthalic at its best, but those who throw understand, those who don't never will. 55 is respectful and takes not only strength, but quickness, athletic ability, and great technique. Throwers can be considered some of the most athletic on the track or field. Warner Gunther of Sweden, 6'4" 275, was a 70 foot Olympic shot putter (16lbs) not 12lbs HS. He could jump 7 ft in the High Jump and run 10.5 100 meter dash. Impressive.
  20. Boy, I love rankings!!! Wasn't UK ranked #1 the whole year and was supposed to win it all??? That's why we play the game folks, it's not for the rankings. It's about the match ups.
  21. Happens in every school system, not just Highlands. Policies are set in all systems across Ky and US, and in most cases by their SBDM councils, or districts, whether we like it or not. Discipline is not universal and neither is zero tolerance, each case is subject to the discretion of who is giving it. That the way it is and always will be. Especially dealing with suspensions and expellable offenses. Right or wrong, the decision has been made, the school will not elaborate to protect all individuals rights. Period. If and when it happens at other schools, then they will be put to the test as well, a human one, to judge and determine. There is no script in these cases. If you think I am wrong, get your teaching certification, teach for 10 plus years (with kids ranging from all disciplines of life), get your Masters degree in Administration, get hired as a principal, then when this happens, you make the call. Good Luck being right or wrong, no matter what you do, it will never satisfy all those involved, but especially those who have nothing to do with it directly. Throw stones, because they don't live in glass houses.
  22. Funny thing was as I walking back from the bathroom the groundskeeper and I got to talking about the fence distance... He happened to let me know that fences were set at 225 ft at the request of the hosting team....why set fences at max knowing that colleges don't even set them that deep? Oh well saved from 2 home runs and a grand slam.... Just saying! Way to smash a ball Shelby!
  23. Plenty of coaches get coach of the year, but never win it all. She needs to get her head out of the clouds. Congrats to her brother, but not called for, this wasn't her moment to speak up, classless.
