St henry scored 7 in the third. Highlands scored 5 in 5th. St henry came back with 5 in the 6th. Dont remember any more.

I did hear Shelby Graybill went "yard" for a 3-run shot in the 5th. Just one of many on the year for the Birds slugger.

That girl is a beast! This is the last year my DD has to try and not get one hit out on her from Shelby. She hasn't yet but I think my DD luck is running out! :isurrender:

Its ok to try shelby early in the year but in a game that really counts, she mighta got a free pass.

Sr pitcher Jordan Kramer went 3-5 with a double and 9 strikeouts pitching. Made a couple nice plays right back at her in the circle. Jr catcher Gabby Stewart was 4-4 and two stolen bases. Jr SS Teresa Urban was 4-5 w a double a triple and 2 stolen bases. Jr 1B Joanna Rebitski went 3-4 and soph 2B Jessie Roark was 4-6 w two doubles. The Crusaders improve to 3-0 on the season

It sounds like the Lady Crusaders hit the living :poop: out of the ball!! Who pitched for Highlands? Spencer?

St Henry did a very nice job of playing sound fundamental softball. Great job! Highlands has a while to go....Highlands inexperience in the outfield screamed it last night. Balls that were dropping would normally be IMO a very nice hustle catch. No disrespect to Highlands Frosh Shortstop and she is filling in Admirably but if Haley Coffey who will be nursing a Bad Wing until April 19th, would of been playing last night the flood gates of mental errors by the entire team would of been minimal. She is the Field General! Also the balls hit that got through last night wouldn't have happened under Coffey's watch. She makes that big of a difference!

 

I'm sure Chris Fogt was smiling ear to ear knowing Coffey wasn't playing the field. It's never good to get beat up like Highlands did last night but it's nice to get these types of games out of the way now before your moral gets stagnant. Again, I want to give a shout out to St Henry.....Very nice job last night!

I've got the Birds stats and they are not so great to say the least. The Lady Crusaders came ready to play and the Birds seemed to go throu the motions. One of those games when you can tell just by watching infield who came to play and who didn't. You would think by the score that there were a lot of physical errors but just not the case. Mainly mental ones for the Birds. Missing cuts, lack of extra effort in the field and some poor choices with the ball gave the Cru a few extra outs in this one. Not to mention the hitting was pretty much non existent with the exception of Shelby. her laser to left was amazing. The only question was would it be high enough!!!

 

The Birds are having to fill four starting spots and I'm sure Rob and the staff will find out soon enough who wants those positions the most and get them on track. The offense needs to pick it up and understand that 4 hits are not going to win many ball games. Obviously not the outcome they expected but good to see some areas that need the work now than later in the season.

 

Congrats to the Cru on a solid game and clearly the better team last night as the players played with a mission and it showed.

 

Outside of the inconsistent strike zone ( equally for both sides I might add) there was only one other issue I noticed last night. Whoever the Cru's first base coach is may need to understand this is High School Softball and not "Bush League". Yelling "Down" loudly to clearly deceive the defense when there is no play requiring it, is a little out of line. especially from a base coach.
