I think there's been two or three threads on this already, at least from the perspective of Creech putting up big numbers at Jenkins this season.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves in the state of KY. To allow not only MS player to play Varsity (yeah right, preserving the interest of schools that don't have the numbers, whatever!), but this girl has played since the 5th grade? Seriously wrong with the system and its "HS Records" being broken by kids who are no even in HS. It's a shame, but hey it the rules right? Got to go by the rules, just like the All "A" tournament and crowing them state champions. I call total oscar mayer bologna!

I've noticed probably 4 threads about Whitney Creech. Most of them were intended to slam her, but there have been threads.

So using your logic, I guess we can discredit a certian Highlands softball players homeruns she hit has a 7th & 8th grader and not count them towards a state record.

I say......if you're that good, have at it.

The records are "varsity" records. If you are on varsity, regardless of age, they are varsity points.

scored (5) points in 5th grade. probably not much more in 6th or 7th that I can't confirm, but in 8th grade her scoring really increased.

taken from an article on this thread:

Creech averaged 21.3 points per game in the eighth grade while Richey averaged 24.3 as both an eighth-grader and freshman. Richey's numbers grew to 27.8 as a sophomore then a state-best 34.4 her junior year before capping off her career at 27 as a senior.

Creech averaged 30.2 as a freshman, 34.4 as a sophomore before leading the nation with 42 per game last year. The big reason Creech has had to score more to increase Jenkins chances of winning is school size and not much depth.

give the kid a break.

Pretty sure the KHSAA has been addressing the elementary school kids playing up at the Varsity level in the past couple years. Seems that they have a pretty good handle on it.

Let me ask this.....what kind of competition is she playing against that allows her to score that many pts a game. Its not a knock on her ability as she clearly is a very good basketball player.

I mean if Cole Von Handorf was still at Villa Madonna dont you think he would avg 40pts a game vs that type of a schedule?

I have seen the Creech girl play a number of times. First I will say she is a very good player. What she is able to do at the High School level is very commendable. However, she does not have very strong support on her team and I'm not sure that team would win any game without her on it. No matter what anyone says about the competition she plays etc... She still does it and does it with everyone knowing that it is coming and she is very efficient. Just look at her shooting % and keep in mind she isn't a 7' center shooting all layups. However, most of her scoring is done by splitting a double team around the foul line and shooting a 10' floater or finishing off and offensive rebound.

That said, I don't believe this type of play will translate into the Collegiate level. That does not mean she will not be successful, but she will never come close to these numbers. She does have some holes in her game that she will need to work hard at to improve to be successful at the next level. From what I have seen, she apparently has the work ethic and dedication to maybe focus on and improve these areas.

Truly amazing High School career and you really have to be in such a unique situation to ever see anyone put up these kind of numbers. Anyone that doesn't recognize her talents are just plain silly.

Yep, we've had many a conversation about this topic and I disagree 100%!! Its a Ky. Rule that is slowly losing its grip on MS players moving up and eventually Ky will get with the times and others states and be 4 years only. These records will be put aside with an * by it.

Absolutely nothing against her. Congrats. Its the process

About time and thus these records should have an * by them.

Correct. I believe that Jamie Walz played from grades 7-12. Until the "scorekeeping rules" are changed, she has 4,948 varsity points.
