Private schools do have the advantage of the players being well supported, but it is not like Cooper has an enrollment of 100 girls like a Dayton, Bellevue, or Ludlow. I am surprised that Cooper, who probably has between 400 to 500 girls, doesn't have more girls interested in playing basketball. I am not sure if there is lack of interest, girls playing other sports, or the grade school/ middle school programs not being supportive enough to develop players. Cooper has a very talented team, but I was surprised at the core of the team is mostly freshman and sophmores.

I am not saying he isn't a good man or a good coach. I am not trying to villianize him or say he isn't good for the Holmes program. However, if Holmes was up by 70 in the first half, and one of the starters got one of the 52 steals or whatever in the game, and went for a layup and blew her knee out and was done for the year, would all the Holmes faithful be so supportive. Also, how much better can you get playing against girls that don't have the talent to give much of a challenge. There is plenty of time in practice to work on layups. The point is just because any team can beat another team by 90 it doesn't mean they should or need to. I stand by that.

A very good point dribbledrive. Just a week ago Holmes was holding the ball for almost a full quarter against GRC and scored about 4 points in a quarter. Put up a total 55 in double overtime. Now they pressure a team that can't come close to competing with them and put up 85 points in a HALF! Just because you can beat a team by 90 points doesn't mean you do it. It is called sportsmanship. This one goes on the coach. He may be a very good coach, I don't know, but it is on him to make the score respectable. Outside of padding stats this game did nothing for either team. Speaking of football, do you think Highlands couldn't have beaten Holmes this year 100 to 0. They probably could, but when Highlands got up 36 to 0, they played the 2nd and 3rd team players, called convserative offensive plays and got out. No the kids that were playing didn't take a knee at the beginning of the second half, but I don't think they were throwing 50 yard bombs every play either. You can't tell me all of a sudden Holmes had 85 points at the half before they knew it.

Where is the Mustang report on this one.

I think Holmes could have called the dogs off earlier. (No pun intended.) I have seen games like this in the past that could have gotten to this point, but there are things teams can do to not turn into this. I.E. no pressing, pull the starters after a certain amount of lead, several passes before a shot. It doesn't have to get to this score. I think if you are up by 35 in the first half the starters can safely come out. I don't think either team benefited from this kind of game.

I think you could sum the Ncc effort up in one word. Scrappy. The Breds constant defensive pressure caused several turnovers, and hit enough shots from beyond the arc to maintain the lead throughout the 2nd half. The Half time score was 32 to 20 Ncc. Dixie made a push in the third period to cut it to 37 to 30, but too much pressure and quickness, the Colonels couldn't come any closer. Tibbs had 18 points for the Colonels, but ending up fouling out with 2 minutes left to go in the game.

With many people saying Etown is the best in the state in girls basketball this year, (and I am not disputing this), did anyone see this game and have an update of how strong Blackman is. Did Etown just have one of those games where nothing went their way.

Dixie's D line is getting a big push up the middle. Will be interesting to see if T can continue to short pass their way down the field all game to keep drives going.

This seems to be a scare story to get everyone up in arms over the dangers of football. Is there a risk of head injury in football, no doubt, but there are risk in getting out of bed in the morning. I have played and coached football for over 20 years, and have only seen two or three players that had to stop playing due to head injuries. Also, of all the players that I played high school and college with, I have not heard of one player having brain trauma. A sample size much larger than 24. By the way, back in the 70' and 80's when a player got blown up, it was called intimidation. (Not saying it was right, but they didn't throw a flag and no one was ejected). With the emphasis on keeping your head up "see what you hit", and targeting out of the game for the most part, I agree this story is more about some sleeze ball lawyer wanting a big money grab.

Bottom line is you can't say this team beat this team by 15, and this team lost to that team by 10, so this team will win by 25. Dixie is a completely different team than the one that lost 41 to 7 to Cov Cath in the 9:30am Saturday peewee league special. By the way Cov. Cath. get a fund raiser together and PUT UP SOME LIGHTS! Back to T and Dixie. This game, like all others is about the matchups. I think it will be very clear early in the game, if Dixie can run the ball on T and make it a competitive game, or if Trinity can stuff the run and make it a long day for the Red Colonels. Dixie cannot have its defense on the field all day and have a chance to bring home the hardware. If Dixie can effectively move the ball against Trinity, its defense will hold up and should be a heck of a game. If Trinity stuffs the run, then title #23 will be heading to the Shamrocks.

Very tough to beat a team with the talent of T being one dimensional. Yes, Dixie's defense is very good, but you can't be on the field most of the game and be able to win. Dixie is going to have to dig deep in the play book, and throw everything they can at Trinity's D to sustain drives. Going to be tough sledding to run conventionally at them.

VOR I agree on the platooning point. Especially in 1A. In the playoffs, you MUST have you best players playing to give your team a chance to win or it is go home. I know platooning is the "in" thing, and you can't have 11 players going both ways, but when it is a big game like this, you lose with your best players on the field.

Ncc would have to play a very clean game, (no turnovers and very few penalties) to pull this one out. The Breds are playing their best football of the year, but going to be very difficult again a good Desales team. But like they say, it's why they play the game.

Is there that big of a gap betweeon Ncc and SV, or is SV having the worst game of year?

Will be interesting to see how Shelby Valley holds up with the schedule they have played. Ncc has been battle tested with some of the better teams in the state. Granted they didn't win, but it has been paying dividends in the playoff since they are not playing teams with that size and talent. Also, you just can't duplicate speed in practice, and New Cath has a couple players that are going to be hard to contain. Shelby Valley does have the home field advantage that will help, but in the end I feel too much experience and playing that early brutal schedule: Ncc 35, Shelby Valley 21.

As much as I am pulling for the N KY team, I not sure Beechwood can control the line of scrimmage enough to keep long drives going. Also, Mayfield has the speed to keep Beechwood from getting the edge. The game is at Beechwood, so that helps not making the six hour drive, but Mayfield hasn't lost a semi final game in a long time, and not sure it will happen this Friday. Next year I guarentee that Beechwood doesn't lose to Mayfield. (They will be in different classes).

I would say yes. I don't think there is any other team complete enough to compete with Desales in 2A. Murray is too one dimensional and not enough fire power from the East to stop Desales. However, as been said many times, thats why they play the game.

Was not at the game, but interested to know how Dixie shut out Simon. SK was averaging 39 points a game, and couldn't crack the the scoring column tonight. Excellent defense, turnovers, untimely penalties, or a struggling offense tonight. Thought this game would be closer this time, but looks about the same as last time these two locked horns. Good luck the Dixie the rest of the way.

A game that looked like the Bred's were going to blow out Newport, up 25 to 3 in the second qtr., Newport comes back and cuts the lead to 28 to 26 in the fourth quarter. The turnovers for the Wildcats were just too much to over come, and the Bred's advance.

The biggest question will be, is the fireman's bell going to be there? And if so, does the winner get to ring it. The team that makes the lesser mistakes, (penalties, turnovers) will win. With Ncc's playoff experience, I give them the edge. 19 to 12.

I am not a lifer up on "the hill", meaning I don't go there, but I have kids that have gone through and played multiple sports, and I agree with Mexitucky on this. To Ncc's credit, they don't let allow the parents to call the shot when it comes to taking care of little Johnny or Suzy. I did not have a kid that played boy's soccer, so I am not familiar how this shook down, but I would think there would have to be much more to the story than this. As far as the coaches going crazy in football, it is a different sport and that is part of the game to get kids "motivated".

Of course you do. Every year for however long you have been on this sight Simon is going to bring home the gold. It is great to be a hard core fan, and cheer while you can. However, Dixie is on roll and, I think the QB situation is bigger than most realize. A seasoned Senior vs. a Sophmore, who is very good, but still in his first year under center in a varsity game. Dixie should advance, but will be a very hard fought game.

It seems like the Colonels bring out the best in the Birds, but doesn't seem like the other way around. Not sure if isn't more of a mental thing at this point, but Cov Cath may want to change their approach leading up to Friday night. Through the past several years it looked as if it was the Colonel's time, only to have Highlands win rather easily. Will be interesting to see how this one plays out, but you are who you are until it chances. I don't see much changing this Friday either. Birds 35 Colonels 14.
