Drunk Johnny

The region has about 4 or 5 teams with a real chance to win it. It truly will be which team is hitting shots that night that will win. I don't think there is a team that is head and shoulders above the rest at this point. I still think NDA, NCC, and Highlands are the favorites, but if Holy Cross stays hot or Conner gets on a roll the region is up for grabs.

Not taking anything away from Holmes. A great win last night but I still think it comes down to the winner of Ncc/ CCH. Doesn't matter if they play in the first round or in the championship. A Catholic regional champ and they can only sell fish sandwiches at the BOK during lent. Just kidding about the fish sandwiches.

Going to be very tough for Holy Cross to pull this one out. They don't go very deep on the bench to begin with and out a player is going to make it even harder. Could be close most of the game but Notre Dame to talented and deep. Notre Dame by 8 to 10 points.

I think this would be a great story for a Disney movie.

Newport has some good young talent. Played tough but Ncc just to deep and and Breds pulled away. Very classy move stopping the game near the end of the 3rd quarter to anounce Klyie Orr scoring her 1000 career point and receiving a standing ovation. Newport girls basketball looks to be on the rise.

A poor shooting half for both teams and Conner took a 20 to 16 lead at the break. The 3rd quarter Ncc took about an 8 point lead with better shooting and solid defense and looked like they were going to run away with it, but Conner started hitting the three ball and stormed back to take the lead. Ncc shooting went cold again and Conner took the lead 38 to 35 with about 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Then Ncc turned up the full court pressure and starting getting easy baskets and the big bucket was a three by Davenport that rolled around the rim 3 or 4 times and went in. Conner couldn't make a run after than.

Basically a repeat of Ncc / Norte Dame except Ncc won. Ryle simply could not make a shot in the first half. Some was good defense but most was just they could make a basket at any range. Ncc's pressure caused Ryle some problems in the first half. The fourth quarter Ncc put it on cruise control and Ryle finally started hitting some outside shots to cut the lead to 9. Not much energy from players, coaches, refs, or fans.

Hugh win for the Breds! It looks like the 9th region is a two horse race between Ncc and Cov Cath. No one else in the 9th region has the talent or playing well enough at this time of the year to challenge either of these teams.

New Cath was down 17 to 13 in the second quarter then Holmes went cold and Ncc took at 26 to 19 lead. In the second half New Cath played a lot of zone and Holmes never could really mount a comeback and the Breds slowly pulled away. Congrats to the four seniors for their final regular season home game. Kiernan, Schack, Lewis, and Lankheit. Holmes has a lot of very good yound talent. They will be a force in the 9th region for the next few years.

Holmes did try to play with 6 players at one point but got caught. Ncc bigs too much inside and the guards knocked down enough outside shots to keep a comfortable lead throughout the second half.

The only thing I would say Lawnboy is that you probably sugar coated this a little too much. I think there should have been a refund at the end of the game. Unbearable to watch on both sides.

Burns played like a warrior! He battled against the trees all night and didn't give an inch. Just too much size and Pangallo quickness for the Mustangs to overcome. Code throw everything except the kitchen sink to try and keep the Mustangs close to near the end.

Tyler will do very well at Georgetown. A very good football player and even better person. Congrats!!

Way to bring home the gold Breds. With that many free throws for Ncc did they call the game because there were no players on Cordia because they all fouled out. WOW that is a lot of attempts.

Congrats to Glasgow for bringing home the gold. A big tip of the cap to Danville. A very tough and gritty team that just doesn't quit. Had they won it would have been three come from behind wins in a row. Don't know if anyone has done that in the all A before. Maybe that would be a good question for an upcoming event at the Frankfort Convention Center for free tixs.

Bred's struggled with foul trouble the whole game. Kiernan got a quick two and Mayes followed with 2 quick fouls of her own. Also, Ware got three in the first half (even though one of them she was about 15 feet away from the foul when it happen???). Danville took a 34 to 24 lead at the half. To Ncc's credit the third quarter they came out like a house on fire and stormed back to take the lead. But sometimes it just isn't your day, or in Danville's case it is. Hitting 7 for 12 from beyond the arch and two or three were the bank variety. Give Danville credit to keep it together during Ncc's third quarter blitz and retake the lead. Ncc went stone cold in the 4th quarter, (looked like a replay of the Highland's game earlier in the year and couldn't buy a bucket.) Give credit to Danville for making almost all their free throws in the 4th qtr. and very tough to get a turnover with their speed. Danville gets to see if their run continues as they take on a very good Glasgow square for the All A crown.

I think we will agree to disagree and my point of playing not to lose is the Mustangs were having no problem getting the ball inside all game with their height advantage. Then in the fourth quarter they went away from that and kept passing the ball around outside and to Danville's credit they were getting turnovers. If Brossart had kept to their plan of pounding it inside like they did most of the game I think Danville would have gotten in too much foul trouble to make a comeback. But once again give Danville a world of credit for their fight and will.

Give Danville all the credit for an unbelievable gritty effort to even keep this game close. Brossart was in control of this game for almost three quarters with a 8 to 11 point lead. Danville was fighting foul trouble most of the game and a HUGH height disadvantage but wouldn't quit. Brossart's undoing was early in the fourth quarter with a nice lead they did the dreaded "play not to lose" strategy and lost momentum and just couldn't get it back. Brossart kept slowing things down and had several turnovers that allowed Danville to slowly close the gap. Danville next gets New Cath in the semi's.

Trimble County was having a tough time early with Ncc's pressure, but as the game went on they seemed to settle down and played very tough hard nosed basketball. New Cath would get a ten to 12 point lead but Trimble kept battling back and would cut it to 5 so. Finally foul trouble and lack of outside shooting (which against Murray the Raiders hit many big outside shots) they just couldn't over come. Very well coach and scrappy team. They will be a very tough in the 8th region.

A great game to watch. Trimble had two starters foul out in regulation and looked like Murray was going to pull away but to Trimble's credit they hit big shot after big shot to keep them within striking distance. Murray had a couple of changes in regulation and overtime to get bigger leads but missed several critical free throws. Give Trimble credit because even short handed at the end of the game they fought tooth and nail to stay in it and pulled out the win in double ot.

Paintsville very young team and just overmatched. Ncc got out to a 27 to 3 first period lead. Paintsville only attempted 3 or 4 shots the whole first period. Turnovers and speed just too much for the young Paintsville team to overcome. Ncc played their non starters as much or more than the starting five. I good experience for Paintsville and if the team continues to improve will make some noise in the upcoming years.

Purple Pride don't think I have to try again. I said they are having a very good year but in state they have beated only one team currently in the top 20 team. Not saying they can't win it all, but should the season just stop now and have the state champion ceremony in H-town, and for go the rest of the season. There is a LONG list of teams in all high school sports in Kentucky and everywhere else that has most of their team back from last year and doesn't duplicate what they did the previous year. One bad night from the field in the regional and/or state tourney and game over for any team.

This schedule is absolutely brutal. I think the "murder's row" schedule they played last year hurt them come play off time. If no else will schedule you then you play who you can. But playing just about a state champion team every week or close to it is going to be a huge challenge.

Let's keep in mind this is just a ratings formula. There is no dominate team in the state this year and the old saying "any given night" a team can be beated. Should be fun come trouney time to see who is hot at the right time and also matchups make a big difference. But this is always fun to say well this team beat this team by this but they are still ranked below.

Too much size and talent for St. Henry to keep it close. Somewhere in the 15 to 20 point range for the Breds.
