NewCath (7-5) will be taking the 3hr & 45 min. bus ride down to Pikeville to take on the Shelby Valley Wildcats (11-2), for the right to play in Bowling Green for the 2A State Title. This is the 1st ever meeting between these two schools. Shelby Valley is appearing in their 1st ever state semi-final game, while NewCath, since 2000, is 9-0 in state semi-final games.

Does the NewCath tough non-district schedule pay dividends again this week, or does Shelby Valley earn their 1st trip to the state title game?

The tradition continues, Newcath wins another hard fought game. Go BREDS!!!

Anyone from Shelby Valley want to share facts about their team? I have never seen them play.

Newport Catholic has played the tougher schedule, but does either team have a quality win? If they do, where is it? I'm not seeing it. Newport Central's best win is a close loss to a Campbell County team that folded 3 weeks into the season. Shelby Valley won a rematch against a suspect Prestonburg team. I'm taking NCC in a rout. I think they play hard, but the only reason they're still playing is because the Kentucky playoff is so watered down. 2A might produce a running clock championship game this year.

I'll take the Breds.

In this game I feel that the home field advantage is huge. NCC needs to pay attention to how they travel and the fatigue from the trip

Which game did you watch last night??? Weird fetishes ya got for the Hill. Breds and your Birds are still in it. Why not focus your attention on the Cakes?

When a team reaches the state semifinals regardless of which classification it's in, there's some quality wins.

I had to work. I didn't get to see either game. I was commenting on the prediction thread. I thought that was what the board was designed for us to do.

I still ask, what win is a quality win?

Just giving you a hard time. Newport twice, when combined together is pretty solid. If they had played Campbell County later they would have had a better shot.

I agree Ncc could have possibly beat CC later in the year. When NCC was 0-4, I said they would make the state finals. Thats not because I thought they were good. Their side of the 2A bracket is beyond abysmal.

I hope NCC players don't read this garbage from BH. NCC has improved drastically, they beat a very good Newport team twice. They kept working their butts off and not getting discouraged in their 0-4 start.

I 100% agree they got better. I also said earlier they are young and will improve. They are odds on favorites to win it all next year IMO. My opinion is also the east side of the bracket is way down this year.

I don't think it's garbage from boss hog, just his opinion. East side of the bracket is definitely weaker than the west. I know as a parent on this team I am really proud of all these kids and coaches. Big kudos to the o line and QB Friday night. Huge game from both. Friday was a great team effort from everyone. All I know about this Friday night at Shelby Valley is the Breds football team will play their butts off and the Breds will be well represented some 3.5 hours away.

Shelby Valley runs a modified wing T offense and they do it pretty good. They have a physical line that creates holes for their backs. Their defense is very physical and surprisingly quick, they run a 3 front and walk up the OLB's. They do not pass much but have been effective with the pass in post season. SV has two backs that have ran for over 1,500 yards each. They control the clock and force teams out of their comfort zones.
