It's a chance for quarterbacks and receivers to work on timing against different personnel. It's a chance for defensive backs to work on their man coverage against different personnel. While you don't want to put too much stock into it, you also don't want to gloss over it especially if you have an offense dependent on some passing or play in a district against teams that like to throw the football

Yep. They lost the school's all-time winningest coach as well as their AD over this decision. Let's see how this plays out.

There were some crazy good performances at the state meet. It's a shame that some of the 3A sprint records may not stand because of 'wind-aided' status, which I think is one of the dumbest reasons for a record not to count. Guy from Henry Clay was motoring. In 1A, UHA's Isiah Pantiere (Louisville bound) was a false start in the 100 meters away from sweeping the 100, 200, and 400. Boyle County was impressive in 2A. So was the Mercer County crowd. Graves County's Sophie Galloway is one of the best female athletes to come out of Region 1 and she is just a sophomore. She finished in fifth place in the 3A team total by herself. Rain was an issue once again. Some were saying they could have held out a little longer and ran the final 1600-meter relay races in 2A Friday to keep schools from deciding whether to go home or come back Saturday morning. Of course, it doesn't affect triangle schools so the call was made early. The number of state records that continue to fall show just how freakishly athletic kids are these days.

No idea. When I saw the openings posted, I asked their AD for clarification and that's what I was told. They operate on year-to-year contracts.

Todd County has a policy of posting their basketball positions every year. There may or may not be an official opening.

Christian County returns everyone from a region title team and has two D-1 pitchers on their staff. But, hey. Rankings.

They need to open it up and see who applies. They have some young talent that plays AAU ball but only translated into 11 wins last year. With the culture of kids and their parents these days, priority #1 is to keep the kids home and not transfer. They also need to cut down on roster turnover. If the new coach employs an up-tempo, pressing style offense, they should be in good shape and you will see kids have breakout seasons.

It's a solid hire. Croft has shown the ability to win when he has the horses. He will be rebuilding at Mayfield. His teams struggled to score the last couple of years but were solid defensively. Should be a good fit for the First Region where you can average 55 points a game and be a .500 team at worst.

I think it's a combination but mostly it's giving the girls something they have never done before -- play at Rupp Arena. There are all kinds of girls who also grew up watching UK basketball and wondered what it was like to play in Rupp. It also gives mothers/fathers a chance to start a new tradition with their little girls much like fathers/sons did with the state tournament in the 60s and 70s. As far a central location, Scott County was just down the road and their student section stunk. I had my doubts but it may end up being the smartest decision the KHSAA has made since moving golf from the spring to the fall.

First round was a new record and almost 12,000 more than last year.

Basketball attendance at the Sweet 16 has not hit 100K for five straight years. You have to go back to 1958-62 for the last time that happened. It's the worst it's been since making Rupp the permanent home. KHSAA has to schedule around UK for Rupp, which is why we now have the Sunday afternoon championship. The declining basketball attendance means the Board of Control is thinking of ways to tinker with and tweak the football, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball postseasons as we speak.

Damien Harris was the Mr. Football front runner in 2014 and got hurt in Madison Southern's 7th game. Elijah Sindelar won Mr. Football, and most of the statewide media and state in general was fine with that because Harris was hurt and played in just over half his team's games. That narrative does not hold true for basketball five years later. Something to remember -- Harris did not commit to Alabama until after the award winner was announced.

Henderson County cut a 10-point deficit to one point in the third quarter then called timeout to get a sub into the game. Madisonville scored the next 14 points out of the timeout to take control. K'saun Casey had 19 points, and Kenny White had 18 points and 8 rebounds for Madisonville. They will play UHA in the region championship

Kyky Tandy put on a show. He scored 32 points in the first half, including eight 3-pointers, and finished with 36 despite not playing much in the second half. Good hire for Warren Central, but I think if Clayton decides to retire at Hoptown a second time in the coming years Fowler is headed west to his alma mater.

Union County may be the biggest unknown dynasty in Kentucky sports history. Not bad for a school with 670+ students. Union County's success has caused Region One to improve over the past few years. Christian County was sixth in the state, McCracken County is getting better quick, and Trigg County had a wrestler in the finals. If UHA needs social media trash talk to play at their highest level this week, then they have issues other than who their opponent is. Their motivation should be single-digit wins over Madisonville and Hopkinsville this year.

In soccer, it doesn't warrant a look from anyone. Shows the difference in how unsportsmanlike conduct is viewed in different sports. Thing is, he wasn't upset at a referee, a coach or another player. He just missed his PR time. And they DQ'd him after they had given him his first place medal.

Caldwell County has lost to No. 7 Lyon, No. 8 Union, No. 9 Webster and No. 10 Hopkins Central with three of those coming this month. Five is much too high to reward their inconsistency

The KHSAA will never seriously consider classing basketball until the commissioner is from outside the golden triangle.

I'd like to see the KHSAA go back to offering 8-man football for schools with Class A size enrollment, schools that formerly had football and dropped it, or schools that are looking to start a program for the first time. That would eliminate several 0-10 schools and allow the KHSAA to re-class to five classes if they aren't going to do four.
