Columbus was the better team today. They had the size on Highlands. Someone else mentioned that they had the size of a GCLS team and I agree. I also thought that the strength of the Columbus team was a factor. It appeared that their Oline could just plow over the HHS Dline and did several times. Highlands must need a better weight room. LOL For Highlands, I thought that Hoge had a huge game, given that his ankle was hurting from the first series on. The Birds did not have any quit in them today, even when it looked like they were done for at 38-21 after the KO return. IMHO, no team in 4A will be as big and powerful as Columbus.

What? "Coming tomorrow (Thursday) and staying in GTown for a couple of days then traveling north on Friday evening to take in a GCL game." I'll buy coming tomorrow to GTown and taking in a GCL game on Friday night, but which couple of days are between tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday? Maybe you should check your source again.

I do not believe that anyone in Ohio ranks teams except by divisions. Calpreps has an overall ranking for Ohio with Moeller #1, St Edward #2 and LaSalle #13. I could not find an overall state ranking on MaxPreps, but they do have Warrensville Heights playing Johnson Central in Paintsville on Thursday (10/2) and Maple Heights in Maple Heights on Friday (10/3). BTW, the Cleveland Plain Dealer lists only the Warrensville Heights vs Maple Heights and it is a league game. So who is really playing JC on Friday?

In Ohio D1 Region 2, 16 of those teams make the playoffs since there are only two regions in D1 The top 8 get first round home games hosting the next 8 in a 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc. All subsequent games are on 'neutral' fields. Thanks everyone for the updates. We are in Athens Ohio babysitting grandchildren and could not make the game nor listen to the broadcasts. Surfice it to say that the game did not live up to the hype after the 1st quarter. Sounds like the Colonels need some work or Highlands wanted to beat them worse than Moeller did. Who knows. Highlands lost six (6) in a row to Norwood (OH) in 1925, '34, '35, '38, '39 and '40. That seems to be the longest losing streak to one team. Highlands lost five (5) in a row to Holmes in 1944, '45, '46, '47 and '48. They lost four (4) to Elder before beating Elder in 2011. They have lost the last two to Edler. Their longest losing streak to Covington Catholic appears to be three (3) in 1987, '88 and '88. On the other end, Scott is 0-30 against Highlands. That appears to be the longest winning streak against any one school.

You guys missed Scott beat Aiken. By my count it is now: OHIO 13 (CCD, Finneytown, Mt. Healthy, Moeller (2), Ironton (2), New Richmond, Sycamore, Riverview East, Manchester, New Miami, and Valley) KENTUCKY 6 (Johnson Central, Scott, Boyd County, Dixie Heights, Trinity and Raceland) There are 8 more games left: Fayetteville vs Dayton Gallia Academy vs Belfry Elder vs Highlands Moeller vs Trinity St X vs St X Ironton vs Raceland Shroder vs Shawnee I see at least 3 OH winners, so the inter State war with Ohio is a lost cause for this year. BTW KY won it last year.

The Greater Miami Conference, Colerain's conference, required conference play for weeks 4-10, so if they play, it would have to be in weeks 1-3. Note they have played in week 3 in 2013 and 2014.

CardinalsFan, As I understand the realignment, Trinity will be in a district with 4 other teams (Ballard, Eastern, Jeffersontown and Seneca) instead of the three (DuPont Manual, Male and St. X) that they are in now, thus requiring them to play more Ky schools (if they want to play for the state championship). The whole alignment can be found at 05/13/14 ? Final Adopted Alignment for 2015 to 2018 Playing Seasons (revised 7/14/2014) | Kentucky High School Athletic Association Since St. X is not one of the 4 other district teams, they may want to continue to play in their "holy war," thus making them play at least 5 KY schools and who knows other KY schools may want to play them. This gives them less opportunities to play OOS schools. Since they seem to have a preference of playing private schools, this leaves Colerain and Carmel, IN, this year's only OOS private schools on their schedule, as the odd men out. At least that is my take on the situation. If I remember correctly, when the last alignment was announced, they bemoaned the fact that the KHSAA set up the "Super District" because that eliminated the possibility of an all Louisville Private School Class 6A championship. Now they seem to bemoaning the breakup of the "Super District" and putting that possibility back into the playoffs. :ohbrother:

John Hardin's schedule has not been easy either. Going into tonight, their 4 opponents were 10-0. Coming out of tonight their opponents are now 12-0 with the Seneca vs Fern Creek results still unknown. Add to that only one home game so far.

Ok, I was just checking. As I said, congrats Trinity. With Dixie Heights win over Turpin, T over Colerain and Dayton's loss to New Miami, this year's record against Ohio is now 4 KY wins to 9 OH wins with two more results to come tonight.

Congrats to Trinity, but have you researched that? I know that Colerain has only lost twice at home this century (since 2000), but they have played football (since 1935) longer than Trinity (founded in 1953) has existed and had some really bad years in the 1970's, '80's and early '90s with at least two 0-10 seasons in there.

You do realize that this is at Colerain and that Colerain is hard to beat at the Cage? They have lost twice at home in this century and that was in 2005 (7-0) and 2011 (17-14) both times to Cincinnati St. X. The last time they started 0-2 was in 2008 when they finished 8-2. The last time they started 0-3 was in about 1992. They may be down this year, but not to the tune of a 42-0 loss at home. Get serious.

Thsrocks Yes these were around before the playoff system and were used prior to 1958 as part of the way teams were chosen as state championships. However, it was the Dickinson system that was used in the early days to decide who was in the playoffs. The Dickinson system awarded points for beating and/or losing to teams that had winning and losing records. The Litratings were not used to determine playoff teams in KY after 1958.

The difference between the football in the states overall is not that different. A quick check of the results of 2013 (using the KHSAA Riherd's scoreboard), you will find that the results were KY 13 OH 12 in games played between the two states. This year so far, it is Ohio 8 KY 2, but the season is young. Yes, the Ohio DI (Moeller's division) school are better that KY Class 4A (CovCath's class) schools in general, since the sizes of the schools are not same. However, the states as a whole were not very different in head to head macthups last year. I also contend that interstate matchups mean more to Ohio teams than KY teams because of the Harbin system where every game matters a lot more than it does for KY schools. KY schools can use the interstate games to learn about their weaknesses (just like any non-district game) while the same is true for Ohio schools. However, winning is far more important to the Ohio schools in respect to their playoff chances. In the case listed here (Moeller vs CovCath) a win by CC would have been more harmful to Moeller's playoff chances that the loss to Moeller is to CovCath's playoff chances. To the original question of "Does Moeller's rout of CovCath mean anything?", I would say, 1) Moeller is in a much stronger Harbin position than they would have been by beating a team that will win fewer games than CovCath (one of Moeller's goals in scheduling CC) and 2) CovCath had a lot exposed that they need to work on and may be a better team when district play begins as a result. Does it mean they will beat Highlands and win the district, that remains to be seen on September 26.
