I feel certain that it was 14 - 8 as both Highlands Bluebirds - Game Results and http://www.kyhssports.freewebspace.com/fb1979state.pdf show the score as Belfry 14 Highlands 8 More importantly, The Kentucky High School Athlete, December 1979 shows the brackets and the score on page 6 as 14-8. I may have interpreted the question differently. I interpreted the question to mean "Using the KHSAA brackets, did the two best teams play in the Championship games"" Because two teams from the same district may be the best teams in the state in their class, such as many years with the case of CovCath/Highlands district or for several years the LexCath/Boyle County district or for several years the "Super District", but can NEVER be in the finals at the same time. With that interpretation, I went to the brackets and looked at the "Best of the East" vs the "Best of the West" from before the games started. My championship games would have been: Paintsville vs Beechwood Danville vs Mayfield Belfry vs Elizabethtown Johnson Central vs South Warren Pulaski County vs Bowling Green Simon Kenton vs Male Only two came to pass. So 4 no and 2 yes

I am surprised that Belfry and St X are below Danville. I had in my predictions that Danville would be at #7. My guess has H, T and M at #1,2,3 but I had X at 4. My top three are still there.

In case of a tie, it would not take long for the decision to be made as to who advances because most games don't end in a tie on the last play, so winner could be announced at end of game.

Nothing new, 3 of the 6 were running clocks in 2012: Trinity over PRP, Highlands over Collins and Mayfield over Fairview. Mayfield beat Williamsburg in 2013 with a running clock.

Attendance comparison for the Ohio championship games is now complete (The Div IV game is being played now, but no attendance was given for the Div IV game last year). This year, the second in Columbus is down from 52753 to 51948, a difference of 805 or 1.53%

Personally I prefer WKU over Commonwealth and Papa John. I have been there 6 of the seven times they have been @WKU (I missed 2013). The last 5 times I have driven from Cincinnati (not NKY but on the west side near Mt Airy Forest). We make it a weekend and visit attractions in and near BG. I would vote for keeping it at Western

Think about the costs to see all the games. If you live too far to commute to WKU daily, you have a minimum of two nights in motels plus meals out plus parking and gas to WKU and back and then sit in the weather. This could add up to at least $175 for two people. Plus maybe time off work. VS. about $15 for Internet viewing and food at home. If you don't have a dog in the fight and want to see the games then the online is the better deal financially. Your call.

Looks like this might be the first time the state championship is ever held in BG without the Birds. This is the 8th time the championships have been in BG. Highlands was there in '75 and the last 6 years.

My mother, brother, sister-in-law, nephew and his wife are Marshall Grads. My Nephew and his wife work on the stat crew for home games at Marshall. I attended Marshall for one year (1968-69, the year before the airplane with the team crashed) before transferring to EKU, where I graduated. Yep, I'm old. My sister graduated from WKU, so did her first husband. A long time friend played basketball for WKU. I know a lot of people on both sides. So I really don't care who wins. Go Toppers!!! Go Thundering Herd!!! Play to 6 OTs. However, I don't particularly care for games on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, so if that happens, this is not the year for me to attend all the games.

I think some of you have gotten away want the original poster meant. Right now we have 12 different sights. There is nothing wrong with 12 different sights. I like the idea of a game site centrally located between the participants. I like the idea of a pre existing list for the school's designated representative to pick on Saturday after the regional championships. I would make the change to have A, 3A and 5A on Friday with the others on Saturday so more people could see more games and a venue could be used more than once. The host school gets utilities etc. paid plus concession and parking fees. Participating schools get part of pre sale plus some money for buses. I can see the Beechwood vs Russellville game in E'town/Central Hardin The Highlands vs Pulaski County game in Georgetown. The Bowling Green vs Fern Creek game in E'town/Central Hardin etc.

Mapquest shows that it is 2 hrs 38 min from Pulaski Co High to Highlands High. Of course that is in a car, not school bus without a lavatory or motor coach. That time is without any bathroom, lunch break or gas breaks. If PC is using school buses without a lavatory, then probably one break would be needed. Thus, 3+ hours is conservative. IMHO, to be ready for the game 3 pm, the team needs to leave no later than 10 am so that they can also schedule in a pregame meal.
