I know that what you are saying is the standard answer when such a list is made but are you kidding! Venneman should be on the list before any and all of the receivers listed. One of the receivers listed as 1st team, Hughes, played quarterback the majority of his teams snaps this year. Nothing of his wide receiver production suggests All State recognition at that position. I know that kid is a really good player but he is not all state at WR or QB this year. Why attempt to defend such an obviously flawed process? Sometimes when we put together our best effort and then look back and see that the end product is a miserable failure (that's what this list is) we just have to scrap it. If I am a member of the AP and I know I have a faulty system I would object to proceeding with that system and discrediting the very organization that I represent. To defend the process in any way is to say that you are ok with it. I know of no 'professional' organization that would proceed in this manner. To the players listed, congratulations. It's a great honor to even be considered. Thanks for a great season.

Have no idea what you were watching but there were no subs put in during the 4th quarter. None.

You just came on to the Trinity Highlands thread to complain that people talk to much about Trinity and Highlands. You know you just did that,right. :no::no:

Gotta disagree here. You can do a lot of things in life for others. Playing high school football is not among them. Football, and particularly line play, is about the choice of out efforting ( I know that's not a real word) the guy(s) across from you. This is a conscious choice that you make maybe 100 or more separate times in a single game. You simply don't do that for someone else. Doing it for team, another person, etc... Simply will not work. YOU have to want to do that or there will be a let down. That letdown can, and likely will, lead to injury.

To further clarify, there is no risk to CovCath for playing him if his family were to get an injunction. No forfeits, fine or penalties, even if he is ultimately ruled ineligible. You may recall this was all clarified a few years ago when the legislature stepped hard on the KHSAA and the former commissioner 'retired'.

FF18 there are about 20 or so kids here at the local school, and I suspect every other school, who really 'deserve' all that CovCath has to offer. Maybe you could take on some of those folks and try that 'transformation' thingy that you all do.

Wow. Trinity keeps starting seniors for just one season. Highlands has for the last three, plan to do it again this year and then again next. When will these programs start to get it? I don't think Trinity is 'building for the future' any year at the varsity level. They certainly haven't given up on this year yet. Have you?

Highlands 1997. Finished season 11 - 2 I believe. Still ranked 24th in USA TODAY final poll.

So the question is Who are the strongest players and the obvious follow up is how much do they lift. Three pages in and we still have only four names. Kemo you mentioned some Campbell Co. guys, can we get a name(s)? In another thread this years Camels seem to not be getting much respect. If they have dudes putting up those # it gets my attention.

I think a lot of people remember that game back in Ft. Thomas. Search the old thread here on BGP. Might go a long way in answering the question about Chuck being a viable candidate.

That info was from Mumme himself. Dunn forced it with pressure and every time Mumme tried to release either the QB was sacked or pressured. Mumme even tried putting tight ends in the backfield for protection and that failed miserably. Mumme's theory was that you release those guys and hit the short route but he kept getting burned, so he had them check blitz and got burned anyway. To clarify. That may not have been the rule per air raid. Mumme and I discussed specifically the failures against those defensive concepts. Mumme still believed that he was one or two offensive horses from turning that matchup in his favor.

Joe Lee Dunn beat Mumme with a concept called 'man through'. Mumme had the tight end and back checking for blitz before releasing. Dunn eliminated both from the passing tree by sending a blitzer THROUGH those two toward the QB. Thus covering them with a single MAN while at the same time bringing additional pressure. It eliminated all threat of the deep ball allowing tighter coverage on the three remaining receivers. Joe Lee hid the blitzers by standing up one or more linemen. Problem for Joe Lee was that it worked great when his man was better than your man(Kentucky) and it gave up easy touchdowns when your man was better than his (Florida, LSU, Alabama, etc..) Joe Lee was all the rage on the clinic circuit for a couple of years. A couple of years later he was fired.

I've been thinking this for two days now, and nobody else has said it so I will. Junior QB is about to announce his college choice. Hometown paper of one of his finalist names him first team all state in what can only be described as a surprise move. (Over the QB who is committed to the rival of the hometown team) This is by no means a knock on the kid because he is very good, but you have to admit it was not expected. I would be less surprised to have seen four other names in that spot as I could make a better argument for each of them. Pick a preference on how you would rate them, this year stats, lifetime stats, wins, championships. Pick any one and I will give you a more logical choice.

And where have we seen this in Kentucky for the last five years?

The last thing that the 220 other football playing schools want is for Highlands to stick with the status quo.

How good they do in college down the road tells nothing about how good they are in high school this year. A 6'3" 240 lb 17 year old senior can turn into a 6'5" 300lb senior all American who goes on to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. None of this means he was a great, or even good high school player. As to should you have a D-1 scholarship to be 1st team all state? Many years Kentucky couldn't fill a 24 man squad.

Are NKY coaches still voting as a block? I know this was done for years so that NKY would get proper representation on All State teams. Whatever they did this year did not work. I know it's a down year in NKY From a championship standpoint, but there are still some football players around here.

Uh.......Wow....ummmm........lets move on.

Highlands finished third in their district that year and finished runner up in the state. I have often felt that that late season run to the final was a huge turning point in Dale Mueller's future success.

Keep fishing Guru. I know hits are way down but there is nothing to see here. Highlands lost in the finals on a forth and twelve with seven seconds. That's not the way HHS people like to end a season but it ain't broke. Next year Highlands will be Highlands again. They will be one of the best teams in the state and likely preseason favorite in AAAA. They will play the same tough schedule, win a bunch of games, and contend for the title.........again.

So my boss comes to me and says if you don't resign I am going to force you out. If I have performed the duties of my job and done nothing wrong, I say to him, do what you feel you must do but I will not resign. This becomes even easier if I enjoy as much support as the coach in this scenario seems to have. Now the ball is in the boss' court, and if he has no legitimate cause he is about to make a mistake. Let him make it. I now have recourse for any wrong that may be done by his actions, both administrative and legal. I may air my grievances both publicly and privately, the other side only able to respond in legal proceedings. Yet if I resign, I have lost all recourse. I had a job, and I left it by my own choice. I don't understand........ If I have a meeting with that boss and he says one word about playing time I have it recorded.... I am getting paid .... And I can still either get my job back or be employable in another district. I don't get this one.

So .... It seems the question is, what does Highlands have coming back next year? Typically I would go get a roster and watch the final again to see who is coming back. Not sure i am ready to watch that game again just yet. Anyone in the know that can tell us who is coming back by position. I will get us started by saying that Highlands will have an excellent starting QB and his backup may wind up being a D1 talent at 6'4" 215 as a sophomore with a very strong arm.
