Trinity hosting two other schools for 7 on 7 this Thursday 6PM

Featured Replies

I have confirmation from three sources that Trinity is hosting two other teams this Thursday at 6PM. The sources were not certain which two teams would take on the Rocks Varsity and JV 7/7 squads. It doesn't matter to me who the visitors are at this event! Looking forward to a preview of things to come in 2014.

I will post a report as soon as I return home from this get together.

I'm told its Prestonburg and CAL. I have been wrong before.

I heard it's Don Bosco and Bishop Gorman, :lol2:

CAL opted out. Prestonsburg is joining Ohio County at Marshall Stadium.

Does anyone know the format ie JV's first then varsity etc etc......??

Ohio County played Trinity A, Prestonsburg played Trinity B. They rotated opposition throughout the two hours.

So many dropped passes. Trinity actually played shirts and skins most of the evening. I think Prestonsburg and Ohio County will benefit greatly from their experience. Both schools played many both ways. Trinity did use a couple of offenive players as DBs as the evening wore on.

Trinity's Young started for the A team. Harper was the starter for the B team. Harper did see some limited action with the A skill players. Each QB has some strengths the other does not possess. It will be a battle once the regular season starts.

Defensively. Trinity played failry well. I believe the Rocks A squad dropped one segment to the Black Cats 2-1. There were probably 250 folks in attendance.

Next Thursday is team picnic day/photo day at Marshall Stadium.

I'm not sure how much you can tell from 7 on 7, but the DBs were playing much tighter than last year. They also lost a couple of receivers. Too many dropped passes, some missed receivers, but all in all, not bad.

I wonder if Trinity really wants to win or just stick with a traditional type setting as in starting a senior over a sophomore. Will they follow suit with starting yet another senior 2 years in a row. How is that building for the future?? Especially when the sophomore is just as good if not better than the senior. His footwork is some of the best I've seen in years. Personally I think they should invest in the future. In observation Coverdale seems to really take to Young. Ballard or Eastern could really benefit with the young QB if he's not going to be utilized. Harper is to good to play Jv. The only thing is his height and weight for the national schedule and taking hits but then again he does scramble and tries to make plays.

Young looks good and knows where to go with the ball. Only thing that worries me about him is he is to slow in the pocket and will get sacked. He also has the tendacy to just throw the ball up. He did that against Ensworth last year and Beatty took him right out. If he were the guy for the job He would have took over last year rather than Trinity suffering and going 6-6 with the direction once again under a "senior" QB.

Beatty has managed Trinity to 10 of the last 13 state titles. I am confident he and his staff will make the moves needed to win #23.

I have no doubt Trinity wants to win. You don't win 10 of the last 13 State titles just getting by or playing someone because its their turn. I got an opportunity to see the JV last season and thought Young did a great job vs Male. And his season stats last year speaks well for his ability to read the defense and make good decisions and accurate throws. His movement in the pocket and ability to extend plays is fine. Has he even lost a game as a starter at Trinity? I have seen Harper also and he is a playmaker. Could care less about height and weight and such. He is a winner but so is Young. I personally am not a fan of passing over someone for the future. This is his time and he earned the right to lead the team if the coach thinks he gives the team the best chance to win.

Will Stein and Cam Smyth both started as seniors w/o startling as juniors or sophomores and I believe the team did fine. As for Bonnafon, it's tough to argue any of the other QBs in the program starting over him. As for starting a non-senior to prepare for the future, see Brohm, Petrino and Wright! I think Beatty knows what he's doing!

Coach Coverdale sees Young as a tough kid and a winner. He actually came in against Ensworth, when Reggie was hurt, and almost helped put Trinity in a position to kick a field goal and win the game. If you recall the pass was to about the 13 in the receiver's bread basket and he dropped the ball. Young has good instinct and is calm and confident when the going gets tough.

Wow. Trinity keeps starting seniors for just one season. Highlands has for the last three, plan to do it again this year and then again next. When will these programs start to get it?

I don't think Trinity is 'building for the future' any year at the varsity level. They certainly haven't given up on this year yet. Have you?

What do you mean "lost a couple of receivers"? Were they injured? How bad?

I think he means "lost" in the sense that the coverage by the DBs was so bad that they could not "find' the receivers.
