  1. ^ Agree 100%. I will add though that local leagues that I have been involved in are more about what parents control it than about the kids.....and money.
  2. I was waiting for something like this. Lifting for football is great, as long as it is done correctly and heavy weight isn't lifted until the body is ready for it....some kids that is 15 some it is 16. The problem with the football explosion in this state is that we have a lot of coaches who have no clue how a body develops before, during, and after puberty. Lifting weights is part of the equation of a good athlete but it doesn't really come into play until a kids freshmen or sophomore year. I'm also not just throwing football under the bus, baseball parents and coaches have kids throw way to much and basketball is being played at the AAU level way to young. Let them play everything and have fun. The reason we haven't seen a Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson isn't because athletes are worse, it's because parents and coaches have tunnel vision and a lot are idiots......
  3. Basketballs used to be very good. In the past 6 years they have went down hill too. 2 years is a long time to keep one.
  4. Some of you are not getting it with Redbook. Coaches go if schools get the room. Get 4 rooms and the staff takes their wife/kids/kids buddies or if single they met friends. That doesn't happen, the cost of a room for all the nights of tourney is not far off from rooms at the beach.
  5. That has more to do with Redbook not allowing schools to pay for coaches and staff to attend with basketball funds.
  6. They don't have football, and have an excellent AAU program.
  7. I loved how Coach Ward coached......expectations and consequences if you didn't meet those expectations. They do not allow coaches like that in Kentucky anymore.
  8. Schutt Air XP Pro VTD II $199.99 is rated the best.
  9. Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings: Football helmets
  10. Huntington Prep won't be around in 4-5 years...
  11. I know what you are saying, I've tried to keep up with that mess down there and your post on the matter. I'm just saying if he takes it, he ain't taking it to lose and not have help. He will not take that job unless Bell Co. is willing to support it. He probably will not take it then.
  12. They will get players and help if he comes.......
  13. If you are an out of region team playing in one of those regions, you are going to get the shaft. Plain and simple. Out of region teams do not win at Clay County.....hardly EVER.
  14. If you don't think that there is bias in the regions, especially in the east, then you are very naive. Coaches from each region evaluate officials from their region. Coaches from the 15th have no say on who is a good official for the 14th. The 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th are fighting it out on an almost yearly basis about what region has the WORST basketball. No way an average team from the 15th goes in and beats a top 5 from the 14th......no matter what. Has anyone ever played/watched a game at Clay County on this board when they are playing an out of region team? I rest my case.
  15. How many teams would be winless if they hadn't beaten a team on that list?
  16. High school isn't so much the problem, because at most schools there are competent coaches. The problems really goes to youth leagues and middle school. 2-3 games a week at the middle school level is in no way, shape, or form safe, nor is playing a 13-17 game season at the middle school level. Add in FBU and "all-star" football teams that run into December.......not good.
  17. Testament to a school and community allowing something to become special. At the community celebration Coach Mickey talked about the vision Coach Haywood had for Belfry when he was hired and what he thought it would become. A loyal community and staff have pushed it over the top. There have been some rough spots and talk that the game had passed Coach Haywood by and it was time for him to go. Credit Coach Haywood for not letting that "talk" bother him and the leaders of the school and school system(Mr. Welch, Mr. Dotson, and Coach Varney) for having none of that nonsense. Community effort, but it comes down to this, Coach Haywood was the right man at the right time, with the right people around him.....truly a remarkable career and run that isn't even close to being over yet.
  18. The East match ups looked bad because Belfry was simply that much better than anyone on this side.
  19. Only team that could have matched up with them.
  20. Punish? As in make it something so no one will do it again, or make it "look" like a punishment?
  21. Anyone with a legit post presence who can run the floor is a matchup nightmare for them.
