Scrimmages are not allowed. Refs are not allowed. Outside of players keeping score themselves, keeping score is not allowed either. Open gym is permitted as long as all kids have access.

This is a fairly known rule amongst coaches and ADs isn't it? Violating it will get a fine like with Taylor County in football right?

Yes it is a very well known rule (addressed firmly in the mandatory rules clinic each year and clearly outlined). From my experience I have seen the KHSAA approach this a couple of ways. If the school self reports, then the violation is usually probation with a small fine (no games lost) or probation with no fine (KHSAA just watches you more closely). If the school fights the allegations and there is evidence against them (video being the most damning), then i have seen large fines, suspension of coach for set amount of games, reduction in schedule, and players who participated being forced to sit out early season games.

 

If this takes place at a school that is on probation and is proved correct, then it may result in even stiffer punishment. I have never seen the aforementioned, as it would take a very brave coach / AD to push the issue if already on probation.

This is actually being addressed in the 15th Region right now. There are current allegations of illegal scrimmages taking place. I will comment further when i can validate the claims (innocent until proven guilty). But I do know a few coaches may push the KHSAA for sanctions.

I would be shocked if anything comes of it. AAU will be the scapegoat.
