What is the KHSAA rule on scrimmages?

2 per team is legal

Even when practice hasn't started yet?

Well obviously not

My best advice would be to go ahead and confess. I mean, in the event that some teams actually did this.

Why has the KHSAA adopted a two game scrimmage for all sports? I get football with only 10 regular season games. You can play 30 regular season games in basketball. Why not allow up to 4 scrimmages a year? Teams would get more out of this. You always seem to see teams get better in their next scrimmage. Coaches make the comment if we just had another scrimmage or a week we would be ready. October 15 to the starting date is along time. Teams get bored going against each other. Should also change the rule with lower levels. If a freshman team wanted to scrimmage another Freshman team without the varsity it counts as one of the two scrimmages allowed.

I don't have a problem with only 2 scrimmages. I actually think the way Kentucky governs basketball, regarding number of games and the limitation of season, is spot on. My kids used to go to school and play in Clarksville, Tennessee before we moved back across the line. Down there practices can't start until the week of November 1st and the first game is usually 2 weeks later.

Not as cut and dry. If say Boone County holds an open gym and students from Ludlow show up to play, then if it truly an open gym, then I think they are allowed to show up. If Simon Kenton has open gym and some kids from Calvary come, does the SK coach send them home?

I'll be stunned if the KHSAA doesn't punish a few schools for illegal scrimmages prior to this season.

Punish? As in make it something so no one will do it again, or make it "look" like a punishment?

I don't know but there is video online of an illegal scrimmage that was held before the official start of the season. I have to imagine that would be enough to cause some sort of trouble.

Yep. That means nothing.

How so?
