Mercer didn't look as bad as 44-0. First of all Green county wore the game uni's and treated this like the super bowl. The staff was on the sideline and in the booth and they looked in mid-season form. They game planned Mercer, ran every formation in thier playbook from empty to unbalanced. They ran trick plays such as reverses and throwback screens passes. Meanwhile the Mercer staff was in the huddle with thier players and on the field during plays. They worked on thier base defense and had some things they wanted to look at offensively. They could have run the ball every play if they wanted to make the scrimmage closer because green had 5 in the box but they didn't. Green has a system in place and Griff has been there a long time. Rains can't catch his team up to mid-season form in the first scrimmage. It will be O.K.

The thing about signing with Auburn is Gus Malzahn isn't going to be there coaching him. I'm betting he is a head coach after this year. It looks like a fantastic system for QB's to play in but I would have hitched my wagon to a more stable situation. (Probably not Arkansas for the same reason)

Because your first year teaching and doing KTIP is extremely stressful. Your first year head coaching is extremely stressful. This is why KHSAA rules state that a certified teacher must be hired unless there are no other candidates.

Here is something scary for you to think about. In the book "when the game stands tall" that details the rise of DeLasalle out in California this is exactly what happened to them. The local teams wouldn't play and they scheduled regional powers became an even bigger monster with the national titles and 15 year winning streak.

I like how it adresses more than just the public vs private complaint. It takes into consideration HOW & Where each school gets thier students, and what type students they are.(free/reduced lunch) Not all 100 students of male enrollment are created equal. Everyone has said that for years. It makes sense. 100 boys at Beechwood are not the same as 100 boys at Bath county.

This is coach Cotton. I'd like to comment and put and end to this thread. I was so desperate to be a head coach I took the job without having met Cook or interviewed with him. My mistake. Then when I did get it I went all in committing to a long term re-building project with all my heart, brought my family here and bought my house. I instituted a program of fairness, character and accountability, began teaching fundamentals, instituted a feeder program, scheduled a freshman and full jv schedule and began the BFS strength and conditioning program. Not surprisingly not every kid and parent bought in right away. These are the things that will begin to show dividends in the long run. Every decision I made was to build long term dividends and permanent lasting success. In essence I was building a PROGRAM not a team for a season. I was given less than 1 year. Big mistake committing to people I don't know. I should have never come here but I'm a grown up and I did and now i'm paying for it. Another coach on my staff moved here from Mississippi and bought a house also. I feel bad for him and i'm sorry. I feel bad for the kids who had now bought in and i'm sorry for what their future looks like now.

Because if it isn't a well established coach he will get questioned on every move he makes and will have a much harder time fending off the parents and admin. This year Jay Cobb took over at Campbellsville after a very solid stint at Somerset and the locals were questioning him on how he totally forgot how to coach in 1 year.
