Wondering how things are going?

I must have overlooked them when reading that thread. I was surprised that they were not in the top ten.

Is Whitley still outside of your region top 10?

Where's the report from SSF? I agree Wayne has played well for a young team but a four point win in January doesn't equal a regional championship.

In the 12th there are several cross-town rivals. East and West Jess., Danville-Boyle, Somerset-Pulaski-Southwestern. I would definately consider those the best rivalries in the region. Many of the students and players know each other and have since they were kids and often they live near each other and that brings a whole new level of intensity to the games. The Somerset vs PC or SW games at Somerset's crackerbox gym make for some of the best atmosphere that you will find anywhere in the region.

Don't judge a team by how they play against weak competition. Of course McCreary could beat Monticello without Watts being a big scorer. They could probably beat Monticello without him as could most of the other top teams in the region.

Nice win for the 12th Region

Wayne County didn't win the State Tourney, they finished runner-up. I can't remember who they lost to though.

If I'f not mistaken the year Monticello made it to the Region in 04 or 05 they hosted the district.

They haven't done that since Southwestern came into that district and Russell County left so I would assume that they aren't doing it this year. In my opion that is a shame because it puts more importance regular season games and eliminates games like last years district championship where Southwestern and Wayne County (about 20 miles apart) had to go to McCreary to play (further drive for both schools) to play. I think it would have been fitting if Wayne had got to host that game since they were the higher seeded team.

Why would there be split sessions? It takes six games to complete the boys and girls tournament, Mon-Sat is six nights. After looking at the KHSAA scoreboard that is exactly how this district had done it since the restructure prior to the 05-06 season. Six single sessions on six different nights. So the split session/clear the gym arguement is not a factor.

From the report I heard about the game if West could hit some free throws they would have had the game in the bag by the final three seconds anyway. As far as March goes I expect that McCreary, W Jess, E Jess, Mercer, Lincoln, Wayne will all be about the same level with Garrard, Southwestern, Danville and maybe Rockcastle close enough to pull out a win against the top group without it being considered a huge upset.

How many of McCreary's players were key contributors to last years team, seems like they had a lot of seniors. I remember thinking the Somerset/McCreary game last year may have been largest collection of seniors, both teams combined I had ever seen. I didn't think McCreary could be that good after losing that many seniors.

I cartainly agree with that. Mercer lost several games last year that could have went either way against some of the top teams in the region. If the ball bounces their way in a couple of those games people would would be expecting a lot more out of them coming into this year. With a player like Taylor, who on a given night can be a dominant as any in the region, the Titans can beat anyone in the region and I really would not think of it as much of an upset it any at all.

Maroons never in the game. I thought PC might have a pretty solid team this year, not so sure after tonight. Josh Bray had a decent game but no one else looked to be on their game. Maybe Muse isn't in full basketball mode yet. I'll give credit to McCreary too, they were all over PC on the defensive end, seems like they deflected more passes than they didn't. They also shot the lights out. I'd guess at least 10 three's and they came from several different players. Watts probably had 25 or so. Hard to see how Mercer took this team to double OT on Tuesday.

I'm giving the edge to Southwestern. Wayne will have a very different mix of players after losing two full time starters and a part time starter while SW basically has the same team that played so well late in the season (at times) last year. I think things will go a little smoother for SW this early that it will for Wayne.

Anyone got any results, observations, comments about how 12th region teams have done in scrimmages so far?

I think most expect Southwestern to be among the top eight or so teams which in this region is definately a contender. Playing as well as they did at times late in the season last year proves that they are going to be capable of winning any game they play against a region team. Just more consistency from them will be needed to consider them one of the favorites. Given how well they improved over the course of the season last year I wouldn't think many people would be surprised to see SW considered as much as a favorite as anyone else come tournament time.

A kid from Pulaski (boys) tried to transfer down to McCreary a couple of years ago but never got ruled eligible by the KHSAA. I can't remember his name. Bronco or SSF either of you know the issues with his eligibility and if they are similar to that of the Morrow girl. Also what's the deal with the wrestling thing that you mentioned SSF?

and who has the shortest trip? South Laurel going to Whitley Co is the shortest in this part of the state

What fans? Seems to me that the gym will be empty for that game.

Maybe they were talking about the girls sweet 16.
