According to the KHSAA District Seeding plan, Monticello is the host school but location is TBA.

True. It switches between the four schools every year. Monticello will find a place to host them.

I read in some KHSAA minutes earlier this fall that Julian Tackett was going to Monticello for a site inspection visit, which led me to believe they were interested in hosting the tourney in their own building.

Well I got word today that it is going to be at Monticello. This is a horrible mistake I'd rather drive to Mercer County and play our district games there at least we could seat everyone comfotably. The parking situation is horrible and the seating is just unreal. that gym might hold 350 people...maybe that's pushing it.

That is way under its capacity. According to the KHSAA it has a listed capacity of 1400 and since it was just inspected I'd have to think it is closer to that than 350, here's the link: Seating. I think that might be a bit high but I'd say with 7-8 rows of seats down the sidelines and in one endzone it should be around 1000. They'll probably have to clear the gym in between sessions but as long as it is safe they should be able to host the District when it is their turn.

Somerset had a hard time seating the district when they held it before the renovations. And their gym is twice the size of Monticello's. McCreary, Wayne, and Southwestern all were just about to capacity whenever they hosted the tournament. and even with clearing the gym between sessions there is no way it will be able to hold everybody.

That's just it, most casual fans won't pay twice to watch a second game. Just like when Southwestern hosted the Regional, they cleared it between sessions, and there were 8 teams involved in that. The thing is, Monticello has a right to host the District if their building checks out and they want to host it. If the fans are worried about getting in, they should just get there early. Somerset has a very small gym but you have to go all the way back to the mid-80's to find a time when the fire marshall had to limit admittance. Back then the 12th Region produced State Championship Contenders and the 48th District was the best in ther Region. There was only Pulaski, Laurel, Somerset and Casey--no split schools. High school basketball just doesn't draw like it used to, wait and see if they clear the gym between games and charge admission for both games everything will be just fine.

The worst thing about this deal is Monticello had previously agreed to let one of the other teams host it. The gym is very small and if you want a seat, you best be in line at 5PM or you will go home.

After looking at the KHSAA scoreboard that is exactly how this district had done it since the restructure prior to the 05-06 season. Six single sessions on six different nights. So the split session/clear the gym arguement is not a factor.

Actually a few times in the past this district has played every game at the higher seed, so often times the 1/4 and 2/3 games would take place at the same time, just in different gyms.

They haven't done that since Southwestern came into that district and Russell County left so I would assume that they aren't doing it this year. In my opion that is a shame because it puts more importance regular season games and eliminates games like last years district championship where Southwestern and Wayne County (about 20 miles apart) had to go to McCreary to play (further drive for both schools) to play. I think it would have been fitting if Wayne had got to host that game since they were the higher seeded team.

If I'f not mistaken the year Monticello made it to the Region in 04 or 05 they hosted the district.
