Who are the favorites out of each district and what do you expect out of this upcoming season?

Just my opinion:

I like Pulaski out of their district (47th?) the rest close behind. That district should be very equal from what I saw this summer. McCreary and Wayne are the best in the 48th district,with McCreary primed and ready. They tacked up some huge numbers this summer. In the 45th, Lincoln is solid again with their two stars, but Boyle may suprise everyone with a new coach and who knows what their team will look like with new faces. Danville very athletic as well and Garrard has solid nucleus back. In the 46th, Mercer has most talent in perhaps the region again if they learn to use it (this senior class was the regional freshman champs), both Jessamine's are always in the hunt,especially West, and look for little Burgin to make a lot of noise with 5 starters back in what I think is the toughest top to bottom district in the 12th after watching scrimmages this summer.

I like

Lincoln then Boyle in the end with Boyle winning the reg season games

West, East and Mercer in a dogfight, with Burgin having the ability to beat any of them!

Pulaksi, then Casey

McCreary then Wayne

Garrard has to find a point guard. If they can do that, they could be a really nice team.

45th

Boyle - I think Boyle will end up winning this district by winning the district tournament, and possibly the regular season mathups.

 

Lincoln - I'm really confused by Lincoln. I think Danville, Garrard, and Lincoln will all mix it up and that this is a very strong district that many teams can win.

 

Garrard - Just like Lincoln, Garrard has a very good chance to make it to the region tournament. I think they some really solid players and if they can find a nice lead guard to move the ball, they'll be very dangerous.

 

Danville - Is Macon here? Danville is very athletic and have a new coach. However, it never seemed that Danville had basketball players, just athletes. Depending on how they develop under their new coach, they may surprise a few teams.

 

 

46th

This is also a very wide-open district, basically highlighted by two or three teams.

 

West Jessamine - West Jessamine will once again be tough with Hammonds' tough defense.

 

East Jessamine - East Jessamine usually has one or two really fine players and I expect them to give some teams some trouble, but I'm not sure if they're consistent enough to win a region title.

 

Mercer - Mercer is very talented, but they have yet to really prove anything since the consolidation. If they can ever put it together, then they'll be in very good shape.

 

Burgin - Burgin returns some fine players, but I'm not sure if they have the talent or the depth to win the district or region.

 

 

47th

Pulaski - I think Pulaski will be a tough team, but I'm not sure if they'll run away with this district They obviously don't have the talent they had a few years ago, but they should have enough to be one of the top two teams in this district.

 

Somerset - New coach, new players. Thacker didn't seem to get his teams to perform when they needed it the most. A new coach with a new style will enter. If they players adjust quickly, they can have a very successful season. They're record might not be as pretty if their still trying to find themselves early, but before postseason starts, the BriarJumpers should find themselves.

 

Casey - Casey County will be a contender in this district, and have shot at winning it for the first time in years. Each school in this district is very equal; therefore, whoever puts it all together and plays as a team will be in the 'w' column.

 

Rockcastle - The Rockets were on the winning side of a few upsets last season and perhaps they can translate it into more wins this season. Rockcastle probably doesn't have quite enough to make a strong run in a region tournament, but should be trouble for many teams in the region.

 

 

48th

McCreary Central - The Raiders boast two of the better players in the region with Aaron Watts and Zack Roark. The Raiders boast a 44-11 record for the past two regular seasons, tops among teams in the 12th Region. Where did that put the high-powered Raiders at the end of the season? Sitting home after two first round flameouts. The Raiders should again be one of the toughest teams in the region, and perhaps finally make it back to post season play.

 

Wayne - The Cardinals will put the most fight into the Raiders for the 48th. Wayne County hasn't beaten the Raiders in over a year, but do boast the title as defending district championship. Decker is gone, but Dunnigan is back. Look for the Cardinals to be directly in the footsteps of McCreary Central and be the two best teams for the 12th Region.

 

Southwestern - The team known around the state as being the 5-win team to knock out region favorite McCreary Central will return to play as an underdog, but a coach that can put them into the hunt. Southwestern lost a couple of extremely valuable players, but look for them to be competitive in possibly a very lopsided district.

 

Monticello - The Trojans had history last season. It was the first time in ages that the Trojans beat Southwestern, but they didn't fair too well outside of that. They return to district play with a six game losing streak to Wayne County, dating back to 05/06 and a 15 game losing streak to McCreary Central, dating back to 00/01.

This looks about right SSFan- I agree with Garrard fan- Garrard can be really tough this year- and that District could see Garrard coming out? The seed in that district will be key.

Garrard is really well coached. Actually, the last two coaches they have had have been really good hires. There is a solid core of good players at Garrard, but again questions abound at point guard. The offense Garrard runs doesn't have to have a pure point guard, but they do need someone who can break a press by themselves if needed. They really don't have that on the roster right now.

 

As for the district, Boyle and Lincoln are still the favorites over Garrard and will be until the Lions can win an important game against either. The gap will be a little tighter this year, but I'm still picking the Rebs and Pats right now.

Great Post- agreed on the last two coaches at Garrard have been really really solid. Garrard will be dealt with this year and I think they will get one of the big two in district this year in reg season. Post season is another story though......Some teams expect to win there in this region , Garrard needs to prove in post season, but I do think they are capable. If there were to beat on of Lincoln or Boyle I dont think it would be a huge upset in districts, just a great game

Well said. Garrard County has had some good teams over the years, but they have laid many eggs in postseason over the years. Quick trivia: Garrard's last game won in a regional tournament was over Lincoln County in 1982.

Coach Deforrest is doing a great job at Garrard. He is a basketball guy who is always working to make his teams better. I wonder if he will try and return to Clinton County if Coach Messer leaves in the next few years? I know he is always keeping up with Clinton's supurb group of youngsters in middle school.

Lincoln County will be at the top if not the top team again next year. We return solid players and the best coach in the region.

1. Lincoln won't be at the top, and possibly not even top five. Mark it down.

 

2. Jackson isn't the best coach in the region. Sure, he won the last two region championships, but look at the talent he had. Before the last two seasons, Jackson's Lincoln County teams were 40-46. Lincoln will be solid, but won't win region.

The only coach that is on the level as Jackson is Woods from Wayne. I sure hope you were not referring to Rob Jones being a good coach.

If "good coach" is measured by post season success. It has to be Jackson. He has been to a few sweet sixteens.

 

MCC does well in the regular season, but pitiful in the postseason. Could this be due to scheduling? coaching? (sure is a lot of talent there) who knows, but they are the favorite entering the season again this year, and it will be a shame if the rest of the 12th region doesn't get a chance to see Watts again this year. By far the best player in the region the last two season, IMHO.

 

I think it is funny to count the two-time defending champs out before the season starts. They have a GREAT coach and some solid contributers coming back. They are def. not the favorite, but calling them "not top five" before the season starts, I wouldn't go there quite yet. I do agree the 45th is wide open.

 

Right now, Jackson is by far the best coach in the region. If you want to compare resumes, feel free.
