Oh, I agree 100% Bronco. If he doesn't win it this season, then I think his chain will finally be pulled as far as it can go and he shouldn't be the coach. However, I don't think McCreary will fire Jones because of things relating to basketball.

 

He definately won't be ran out of the school system he was born and raised there. But, I think there would be a strong push to replace him as B-ball coach and leave him with just the A.D. duties which is how it should be anyway. I have talked to a lot of people in Mccreary county as well as people in other counties that have head coaches as athletic directors and everyone I talked to seems to think the A.D. should not be a coach. The concensus is an A.D. who is a coach will be partial to the sport he/she is coaching (this is almost always the case and definately the case in McCreary co.) also, the lack of time the dual role has to do both correctly. lets face it, most head coaches barely have enough time to get done what they need to get done as a coach and I am fairly sure that the A.D. position is highly demanding on time as well. So, with just 24 hrs in a day can a head coach who is also an A.D. do both jobs to their fullest extent or do both things suffer because there is a lack of time? You must not follow it too closely. He had a stranglehold on the county with some major players in the school board. If you followed the school board election recently, you would see the divided sides very clearly for and against him. Those against him aren't that way because he hasn't won a region title. There are other arguments about Jones and what he doesn't do in the school system.

But this is about basketball. Not coaches or ADs.

Coach Jones is a great coach. He gets alot out of his talent. I personally felt like McCreary had the 2nd best team in the region last year. They beat the best team in the region (lincoln Co.) last year at home.

 

If he couldn't coach then they wouldn't have had the records they had the past couple of years.

 

Three years ago he took an average team and made it to the second round of the Region, and took the region champion down to the wire. Coach Jones did a great job that year.

 

Some of your expectations do not match up with reality. McCreary had a nice team two years that was beaten by a good Wayne Co. team AT WAYNE. That gamer went down to the wire.

 

Last year McCreary got upset by a point in the District. You all looked at SW and said they only won 5 games they are aweful. But that wasn't the reality. SW lost several games to some good teams but if you look at the last month of the season they were jelling at the right time. They defeated a good Pulaski County team twice. They were within 5 points of Regional Champion Lincoln Co. with about 2 minutes to go in their game. They defeated a good McCreary County team in the first round of the district on a night everything went right for the warriors. They were ahead of lincoln county after the first quarter in the region. So when you look at this you will that SW was alot better than their record showed.

 

Everybody is judging Coach Jones on the what have you done lately. He is an excellent coach and a good person. McCreary is one of about 8 teams that could represent the 12th region this year at Rupp. UNfortuately for McCreary, Wayne, and Southwestern one of these fine teams that Could make it to Rupp will not even make it to the region. Whichever coach it is (Jones, Woods, or Schulz) it doesn't mean they cant coach , it means that they are in one heck of a tough district, just like the past 3 years.

I don't personally know Jones and my statements are not personal but reality is reality. These players arn't just good they are way better than that.

I get the Lexington paper for him but he has to get the Louiville one his ownself.:confused:

What is the common perception of what the Jumpers will look like under the new coach with a new system? Everyone seems to be staying away from that team with there comments.

They may not win a game! They actually may not win 5. Big rebuilding job there but the talent is on the way.

That is pretty low expectations, their district does not appear to be so tough that they won't be able to compete.
