Last year was a totally different year? OK ... for your sake, I hope they win it, but they probably won't even get out of the district tourney again.

Mccreary was one of the favorites last year talent wise, but nothing came out of it. Garrard County will shock a lot of teams this year, especially the district teams who think they will run right over them.

Pretty sure West Jessamine shut down Watts and Roark last year, but that was only one game. I agree that was last years teams. I will agree on paper McCreary might be alittle ahead but I still think there is no real favorite at this time, come Jan right after Christmas break we will have a better look at the region.

For the last two years though I would have to say the 12th has been a 3 horse race with Lincoln, Boyle and West- those have been the 3 strongest teams night in night out against good solid competetion. So I wouldnt count those 3 out by any stretch- and then you have to include Wayne Co this year with more experience! Throw in SW, East Jessamine, Mercer County, and didnt Danville win the JV Region last year? So lots of talent out there give it a month and lets talk about where everyone is- esp when teams get thier football guys in shape. Going to be a great year for sure:dancingpa

I agree with you, Garrard should be getting more respect. I look for Garrard to suprise ALOT of people this year.:thumb:

I really liked Garrard last year and their new coach. I thought they lost their best player from last year(point guard), until they can get past Lincoln and Boyle when it counts(district) it is hard to give them any more respect. They choked against Boyle last year in the district in a game I thought we would get beat and I think we won by 20. A new year and anything can happen but I still put them third in the district.

Southwestern has the potential to sneak up and win the 12th region if not properly respected as an opponent, size in key places should help this team as well as a deep bench. This could be the sleeper.

I think most expect Southwestern to be among the top eight or so teams which in this region is definately a contender. Playing as well as they did at times late in the season last year proves that they are going to be capable of winning any game they play against a region team. Just more consistency from them will be needed to consider them one of the favorites. Given how well they improved over the course of the season last year I wouldn't think many people would be surprised to see SW considered as much as a favorite as anyone else come tournament time.

Southwestern scrimmaged North Laurel on Saturday and not sure of the final score, they did split in winning quarters. I think each team won 3 quarters.

Les, do you ever think McCreary will win? Last year was a totally different year and this year has many, many new faces. Talent wise, McCreary is the favorite - no doubt about it.

 

I have got to go with some of these other guys for now SSF. The last two yeas McCreary has had the talent to get out of the district heck they have had the talent to win the region but it didn't materialize....1 and done 2 years in a row dosen't give anyone much leverage to think this year will be any different. I truely hope this year is different, I would love to see the Raiders win district and region, I know they have the talent just like they have had the last two years. So, I guess it all comes down to coaching, can the coaching staff prepare this group of great athletes to perform come tourny time? They can go undefeated during the regular season and get beat the first game of the district tourny and the season is still a failure. With the talent McCreary has it has to be on the coaches shoulders if they don't make it to Rupp this year any thing less than an trip to the sweet 16 is unacceptable! Heck, I heard the new gym will knock your eyes out it is so beautiful. I would have to say there is a ton of pressure on Rob Jones to make it out of the district and region and take his team to the sweet 16, if he doesn't with all the hype surrounding this team he should be replaced with someone who can get the job done. That's the way it happens everywhere else and our kids deserve the equal right to have a coach that can get it done! With all that said, I am not hateing on Coach Jones at all, I truely hope they kick-butt this year and make it all the way to the dance! Go Raiders!

Rob Jones is feeling the pressure I will bet. I have talked to alot of people there and they echo your sentiments bronco99. If Jones dont get it done this year, he needs to get a job elsewhere. Maybe at Monticello where expectations are not so high.

Oh, I agree 100% Bronco. If he doesn't win it this season, then I think his chain will finally be pulled as far as it can go and he shouldn't be the coach. However, I don't think McCreary will fire Jones because of things relating to basketball.

Agreed! Complacency and Coaching got them the 1 and out last year. However, I do feel like with the tougher schedule they will be more prepared for the post season. Go Raiders!
