Well, I thought the title to this thread was 12th region: What's new?. . . not McCreary Central, McCreary Central, McCreary Central! This region is anybody's this year!!!

And it's more than just middle school programs. If I read correctly Brutus was referring to grade levels 5 and 4. Elementary!! I'm not trying to sound like a nag, but elementary? Really?

The region, once again, is wide open. If I were breaking it down, my preseason predictions would look like this:

 

1. McCreary Central-they need to prove they can win a postseason game.

2. Wayne Co.-Came on strong last year.

3. Lincoln-Two Time defending champ.... Best senior in the region, IMO. Best Coach.

4. West Jessimane-Well coached-Big time guard coming back.

5. Boyle County- How will the new coach adjust?

I don't know if Jackson is the best coach in the region. Look at the talent he has had in his last two seasons at Lincoln. He is top three, and best is in reach after we see what he does this season.

Lincoln County has basically played with five guards the past couple of years. They have had good athletes, but no outstanding basketball talent. Ryan Young and Noah Keeton were excellent players, but nothing like the above mentioned. I am not just talking about Jackson's track record at LC, look at what he has done over his career. Of course he had good talent at his old school. But you can't deny he has good HIGH SCHOOL talent at Lincoln County. Why were/are Ryan Young and Noah Keeton considered some of the best in this region? They're talented.

I agree with you on the player of the year but baseball may be his best sport! McCreary Central would have to be the favorite. Wayne County would be second only if they play all their games at home because the coach intimidates all refs that call there. Lincoln will have a nice club, and Spurlin will be the best senior but the senior class is way down . The reason Lincoln has been so good is they play as a team,and they were taught that way in middle school by the guy that helps with the girls team last year, I'm sorry but i don't know his name. West Jessamine has a good coach ,but who is this big time guard that is coming back? (were did he go) Boyle will have a tough year,they will miss coach Bottoms he held that bunch together.

I am sorry but I just do not get it with McCreary being picked to win the region. They have to prove that they can get there first, then I think not having the experience of playing in a regional atmosphere will really come into play.I am just not sold that they have the coaching staff of a Lincoln Co.,West Jessamine or Wayne Co. I am a Boyle fan and those are my top 3 teams with Boyle fourth and McCreary five. I would have Boyle higher but I agree with the swami, we will miss coach bottoms more than most realize.

First off, I think McCreary does have a good team. Jones has not proved yet he can win the big game, but the talent is there.

 

Wayne will be much better this year. Whether you like him or not, Woods is the best coach in the 12th region.

 

Boyle at 4th is to high, although the new coach has them in unison for once. Bottoms was a nice coach, but there is a reason he is gone.

 

The reason Lincoln has been so good is Jeff Jones and he has had players.

I agree with you heartbreaker that Woods is the best coach in the 12th region. He has been there longer and taken his teams to the state numerous times. I think you meant to say Jeff Jackson for Lincoln, I think they have had some nice players coming thru but I also think that he has done a great job of developing players such as Spurlin. I watched him once this summer and he will probably be the best player in the region this year. I think that Coach Jackson has kids loving basketball at Lincoln and that has not always been the case. And finally to say that Boyle is in unison finally is not a correct statement. We have won 3 of the 4 districts, been to the state tournament with a regional championship and been regional runner-ups in Coach Bottoms 4 years as coach. You are correct there is a reason he is gone and the word is "politics" and a few parents that were not satisfied with their kids playing time. Our new coach has a lot to prove and I am hearing nice things about him but in reality he is 0-0 as our head coach. He has some big shoes to fill.

I said Jones from Lincoln because he is the reason they are contenders year in and year out since he has been there. I was putting the praise where it belongs, on Jackson, not some middle school coach, although the swami is high on this guy.

 

From everything I have heard from Boyle this year thus far is that the team is closer than its ever been and finally on the same page as the coach. I know Bottoms had some parental issues last year, but alot of that he brought on himself. Parents and players alike are happy and thats always a winning combination to get started on.

 

Spurlin is a good player, but Watts at McCreary Central is the best in the 12th this year and I am not sure if Dunnagan(sp?) at Wayne is not the second best.

rebel man, I don't think you know what was going on behind the scene at BCHS basketball. I think that the kids will play just as hard and with less looking over their shoulder. The unanswered question is the quality of the coaching, but his record in the college ranks would point to him be qualified to get results. I have already seen that he will run the system that will fit his players the best which at times in the last couple of years it was win with man to man defense or nothing. Lets hope for this years team they can come together, learn the system and be a force at tournament time.

Lets just say that the past fours years with Bottoms were a cross between Tubby (fell into a team/program that was already set and Tark at UNLV) you make the correlation. Pittman had Boyle rolling already and with the Danville tranfers and the only 6' 10" player in the 12th it was prety easy for Coach B..Rebelman can say it was the parents/politics but they were complaining for good reason.
