Don't know about the talent level, but Coach Daniel at Somerset can get it done. He can coach with any of them, and he proved it by winning the 16th at Rowan.

All I know is you can't loose in the first round of the district like last year. Mr. Woods needs to get to the regionals this year, sense he will probably have the best team in the 12th this year. Good luck to him and his Raider team.

Woods coaches the Cardinals, as in Wayne County.

Jones coaches the Raiders, as in McCreary Central.

 

Both teams will probably be the cream of the crop in the 12th this upcoming season.

 

Raiders probably have more talent.

Cardinals have Woods. (Not a knock on Jones)

 

The Wayne/McCreary game should be a very, very good game.

After watching them during the summer, McCreary Central has something special in the 3 punch with Watts, Roark, and Wright. These players have something special when playing together. Watts and Roark are two of the better players in the region. Wright is a smart pointguard, and is also a scoring pointguard. Never really saw this part of his game until this summer, i guess its time for him to step up with the loss of Swiger. Look for these 3 to have a breakout year for the Raiders.

Southwestern returns everyone that contributed in the upset of Mccreary last year. The team that only won 5 games but 3 of those wins were against top tier teams. This team was within 5 points of Regional champion Lincoln Co. with 4 minutes to play in a game in late Feburary. So the talent level is there, to suprise some teams this year. Plus we have a 6'8 center that joined the team, and he will only get better as the season progresses. With Schultz at the helm SW will be a tough out once again at tourny time.

 

The only drawback to SW is they are in the district with Wayne and McCreary, IMO two of the top teams in the 12th Region.

Danville - Is Macon here? Danville is very athletic and have a new coach. However, it never seemed that Danville had basketball players, just athletes. Depending on how they develop under their new coach, they may surprise a few teams.

I recently visited McCreary Central and wow am I impressed with their updates.

 

The high school is going under complete renovation and the gym is already finished. I can say that, without a shadow of a doubt, McCreary Central will have the best looking gym floor in the 48th District, and quite possibly out of the Region.

 

Amazing.

 

They also put brand new seating in the entire lower bowl of the gym, which makes it look and feel a thousand times better.

 

It looks like McCreary is about to get very, very serious about basketball.

What did they do the gym? That was the one place all vistiting teams hated to go play. Low light and all yellow. Hard to shoot in.

Woods is the man in the 12th. His record speaks for itself. I hope they replaced the lights at McCreary. Other than the lights it was a good place to play.

The lights are what they didn't replace, and probably needed the most. Even if they lowered the lights, it would have helped tremendously. I think with the new bleachers and light floor, it will be much lighter in the gym, however.

Why in the world would they spend all that money and not replace the one thing that was most important? Who made the call on what to do at the Gym? The AD? Super or whom?

That entire school is being renovated and added to. Maybe that will come down the road, but I think the most important that for the Superintendant was the school in general, followed by the gym, etc.

It would be nice if they got serious about the football program as well. The worst stadium in the state by far. The kids deserve better! Mine included!
