De'Von Cooper ruled ineligible
Big East Zebra replied to Realreason's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I'll give you one better than this. Ben Moss played at 28 Ft. Academy, last year, their season concluded, he came back home to Apollo and was ruled eligible for the last week of the season and the district tourney last year! -

How many state records does Wood have? Better yet how many has he shattered? Johnson has been to the Carpet not once, not twice, not three times but four years in a row. He has won one ring. The Wood kid will win because he's a U.K. Recruit and the Johnson kid is better than any receiver U.K. Has on their roster in my opinion. I stand by my comment it will be a tragedy if Johnson doesn't win. -

I was at this game tonight. In my personal opinion if Jake Johnson does not win Mr Football it will be one of the greatest tragedies in Kentucky High School Football. -

Who do you want as Kentucky's next coach?
Big East Zebra replied to newarkcatholicfan's topic in College Football
After reading through this thread, allow me to share a few thoughts. First, the Kentucky job is not a bad job or a grave yard for coaches. You can get kids to come here and play, quite apparent with the recruiting Stoops has done. Some guys (my opinion) are coordinators, not coaches, e.g. Stoops, Kiffin, and I think Smart is going to end up in this category. If I was the AD at UK, who would I go after? Remember any coach worth his salt thinks they can take any program and turn it around. They have ego's twice the size of Texas. That being said, I would go after Rich Rod at Arizona. Spread guy, who will run/pass the ball with a great offensive mind for the game. Rich Rod would love to be in the SEC, and possibly regrets he didn't take the Alabama job before Saban went there. Remember he had WVU on the brink of playing for the NC a few years ago, and has down well in the desert at AZ. He would like to get back East, and I'm really hoping WVU falter's more down the stretch and fires Holgersen and goes back after Rich Rod, but I think UK would have a real shot at getting him. That's my $.02 -
Wasn't to many years back Owensboro Catholic was dominating the state of KY in softball. I think, I'm not sure but Owensboro Catholic is ............yes that's correct a small school. You know I don't recall any of the big boy schools complaining that little ole Owensboro Catholic is dominating this state. No, teams in the 3rd Region and across the state started picking up their game. According to the KHSAA Website we have been crowning a state champion in softball for the last 20 years. 95 - Reidland 98 - Owensboro Catholic 99 - Owensboro Catholic 02 - Reidland 03 - Catholic 05 - Catholic 09 - Catholic 10 - Reidland 11 - Allen County - Scottsville 12 - Mercy I know Reidland is now McCracken, but they dominated as a small school going to a big school I'm not sure changed a lot. Allen Co may not qualify as a small school but it is in rural Southern KY with not as many kids to draw from as your Scott County and others.

Terrible idea, you realize 3 of the top 4 teams in this years tourney was McCracken (1st Region), Madisonville North Hopkins (2nd Region) and Daviess County (3rd Region). The best softball is played in the western part of this state. What makes the Kentucky State Tourney so exciting, to use the Big XII slogan, "We have one TRUE champion!"

I have a problem with this. First if you have runners at 2nd and 3rd, why would the 3rd base umpire be in the "C" slot? He should be on the 3rd base line more towards the outfield. That's the proper mechanic. The umpire in the "B" slot should have gone out for the catch no catch, however in 3 man mechanic's the Plate Umpire has no catches in the outfield, those are the responsibility of the base umpires, and the umpire at 3rd does have the tag from second, going to 3rd, while home plate umpire has the tag from 3rd. I certainly concur umpires are to watch the play, not get caught up in the game.

Daviess County is now open after Natalie Powers-Payne goes back to her alma mater Apollo to help Willis McClure. Daviess County will return 4 starters from last year's district runner-up team.

From what I've heard, the Fouts kid is the real deal. I've heard she has committed to Alabama. If she has, she's beyond good. If you have good pitching it keeps you in games, if you have great pitching, you win a State Championship, i.e. Moss at Greenwood a few years ago, and I don't recall the kid's name from Allen County-Scottsville. As a side note, sounds like Alabama should be called UK south with all the Kentucky kids going to play ball there. -

Stop the madness i.e. Transferring
Big East Zebra replied to Big East Zebra's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If the parents make a legitimate move, then the player would be allowed to play, no questions asked. But for me to sign off on a guardianship waiver to allow my child to live with their uncle, grandparents, whomever in order to attend another school, should not be allowed. -

Seems this is becoming, not an isolated event, but mass hysteria in the Bluegrass State. While I understand, some county's have "open enrollment", I think it is past time for someone (KHSAA or KDE or State Lawmakers) to put a stop to this transferring. These parents who think their child is the next ...... (insert any name you want there) playing basketball so they "trick" their child out to the highest bidder and when things go south they open the "tricking" business again to transfer to the next school. Why can't it be that where you start your high school career, if you decide to transfer from Ballard to Male or Tate's Creek to Bryan Station or Pulaski to Southwestern or Bowling Green to Warren Central, or Apollo to Owensboro, you MUST sit out the next year. No if ands or buts about it. Even if a kid went to Tilghman and transferred to Murray, and there was not a move by his parents but a transfer of guardianship and then decided to transfer back and live with his parents and go to Tilghman, they still have to sit out a year. If only we lived in a perfect world, but I know we don't. But for the sake of the game, please somebody stop the madness! -
After having seen some of these teams play multiple times and others only seeing them at Rupp, ranking them after the State Tourney. 1. Mercer County - I still think this was the best team in the State, unfortunately they gave one away when it counted the most. 2. Bowling Green - This was the second best team in the State, and just as Mercer, they gave one away when it counted the most. 3. Dunbar - Although they won, can't deny that, very good team they were the recipients of some fortunate breaks, which a team has to have to win it all, but not the best team in my opinion. 4. Christian County - What a time to have a bad game in the Sweet 16, but this was one of the top 4 if not the top 2 teams in the tourney. 5. Newport Catholic - was very impressed with this team, and could have very well be playing on Sunday as well. 6. Trinity - All it takes is one bad shooting performance and you get beat. But over the course of the season this team was very good. 7. South Laurel - This team was better than I expected. The big boy inside is nice. 8. Taylor County - Was a much better team in Lexington than I seen around Christmas Time. 9. Doss - Still can't believe this team made it to Sunday. 10. Lawrence County - Better than I thought 11. Mason County - Wish I had got to see this team at full strength 12. South Oldham - Again one bad shooting night and your done. 13. Owensboro Catholic - This team was much better than they shown at Rupp 14. Murray - Lucky to get out of the 1st 15. Elliott County - How bad was the 16th region? 16. Buckhorn - Good thing every region has to have a representative.
