I doubt you're giving the improved Mayfield defense enough credit. No one the remainder of the season will hold them anywhere close to 17 points. You'll need to check my comments in the game updates for my thoughts on R'ville's play calling.

Looking forward to seeing what Frankfort brings to the table. I still think Russellville is 2nd to Mayfield in class A. They are just in the unfortunate position of being in Mayfield's district.

I think Crosslin really wants to be a Cardinal. His miscues are keeping the Panthers in reverse. Mayfield's D is picking where they left off in the last meeting of these two. Russellville is another example of a team that won't get over the hump until Myers teaches the forward pass.

I would tend to agree with this.

Mayfield finally started to get in the backfield in the 2nd half of the 1st game between these two and began to blow up the Panthers play calling soon after the ball was snapped. Unless Russellivlle has something new going on in the playbook, and they very well might, I would think the Cardinals will take this rematch. Expecting R'ville to add a few wrinkles, but to basically stay with what got them this far. What I need from Mayfield is a motivated start, and not wait until halftime to shift into the next gear. The playoffs are not the time when you let an above average team stick around into the 3rd and 4th quarters. Hoping the Cardinals remember how they played in the 1st half of this game a few weeks ago, not just what the scoreboard said at the end. If they do, it will be fun to watch as a Cardinal fan. With Mayfield never really playing a middle of the pack 1A team during the regular season, these matchups in the playoffs always intrigue me. It would be great if Mayfield jumped out quickly and put the smack down early on, but for some reason I don't know if a second round playoff game is enough to get their attention. I would not be shocked if this one is tight for a couple of quarters... like the Russellville and Murray games... before the Cardinals get in gear during the second half. I hope there's a running clock, but I just don't think it gets to that point. 45-20 Cardinals

Hazard is a team that is flying under the radar, not hearing much about them as a contender. They have very quietly gone about their business and rolled since that close loss to Pikeville back in week 1. If there is any team that knows how to get deep in the playoffs in the east, it's Hazard. Another Mayfield/Hazard match up will break the 1 to 1 tie between the two teams for 1A championships this decade.
